To 'miss out' on a vaginal birth?

I had an emergency c-section with my first, only got to about 3cm but was in so much pain and couldn't have imagined going through full birth. My recovery was great/easy and I now only have really positive feelings about my birth.

I'm pregnant with no2 (definitely our last) and I've found myself being really blasé about going straight for a planned c-section this time round, but just a tiny niggle of doubt is creeping in that I'll miss not having the experience of a vaginal birth!

Am I romanticising it?

I thought I had quite a high pain threshold before no.1 but now I'm not so sure. I'm also very aware I could end up in an emergency c-section again and I would definitely prefer a planned one over emergency.

Just looking for opinions/experiences please!

I also preferred vbac. I feel like I lost the first few weeks with dc1 due to cs recovery. Felt amazing after vbac with just gas and air, even though dc2 was over 9lbs.

It's a lottery, whatever you choose.

There is also the fact you have had a previous section so have a scar on your uterus that could rupture if you went into labour. During my second elective section they were horrified at how thin my uterus was, they could fully see through it to see my baby before cutting it open. If I’d gone into labour there was a high chance of rupture.

I’ve missed out on labour in the same way that I’ve missed out breaking my collar bone etc. I haven’t done it and some people have but it doesn’t make me any less of a person for it 😂

@supercalafragilisticexpealidocious totally agree the mobility issues were awful took me so long to get up out of bed as you just have NO stomach muscles at all.
I've had 2 emc and going for vba2c this time and I'm going for it hard.
I am definitely scared of having a bad tear and it being worse recovery but all I can do is prepare, get a great midwife , and listen to her at pushing. Planning to avoid epidural so I can use gravity and feel everything

I was one of the weirdos that enjoyed a vaginal birth. The elation and pride in myself when I had finally got them out was incredible. I felt like Wonder Woman!

@BreatheAndFocus 9/10 first time mothers tear during childbirth according to RCOG. That's not mysogyny, that's a fact.

Others my feel differently, but personally I do not like those odds, so a baby will never enter this world though my vagina.

As that includes grazes and the most superficial of injuries, that’s not really an accurate reflection. It’s like saying you’ll never go for a walk because 100% of humans experience broken legs - when, in fact, the study says, “Broken legs, pulled muscles or minor grazes”.

The word “tear” can scare some women but usually it’s no more a tear than the “breaking” and “tearing” of your hymen when you first have sex or use a tampon. Imagine reading about that and deciding you’re never going to have sex!

@BreatheAndFocus Still a no. I file vaginal birth alongside skydiving and bungee jumping. The chances are low for a 4th degree tear/the parachute not opening/the rope snapping. But the mere possibility of those things means that all three of those activities are a no from me.

I would never stop anyone else from doing them. But they're not risks I personally am willing to take.

I had an EMCS, baby got stuck when pushing so fully dilated. I'm not a wuss, c section recovery fine, paracetamol and ibruprofen only, up and walking baby around quickly. Dear god labour I felt like I was dying. I had an epidural at like 3cm. I'd be tempted by a vaginal purely not to go through surgery recovery again and having fully dilated I think vbac chances are over 90%, but I would have no qualms about having another c section if needed and definitely having another epidural 😂

A friend of mine had an emergency section first time. Planned an elective on 2 ND. Ended up with a half hour VBAC instead . Baby delivered before ambulance arrived
