SlartyBartFast · 28/03/2008 18:51

i shoudl think it jsut makes you poo

bohemianbint · 28/03/2008 18:51

yup, I heard the poo thing too.

dizzydixies · 28/03/2008 18:51

I don't think its advisable - you'll need to ask Lulumama for definate though!

SoupDragon · 28/03/2008 18:52

IIRC it's something to do with the effects of the castor oil irritating the uterus.

WombFor1More · 28/03/2008 18:54

Don't do it ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It does make you poo and also baby so can be quite dangerous. Not to mention the embarrassment factor of squirty poop going over mw in the throes of labour!

rdk · 28/03/2008 18:54

yeah i heard to about the poo thing too

ANy major bowel evacuation (!) could bring on Labour though .

I'd eat a very, very big portion of moussaka. It's the aubergine...

scorpio1 · 28/03/2008 18:59

No don't take it.

At best it will cause you diarrhoea and stomach cramps; at worst it can make baby poo inside you, meaning it is distressed.

You could try other things to bring labour on - raspberry leaf tea; sex; pineapple, curries, walking. Also visualise being ready and a ripe open cervix.

Castor oil BAD idea.

scorpio1 · 28/03/2008 19:00

Will let Lulu tell you about nipple stim

3NAB · 28/03/2008 19:00

Don't do it.

It won't make the baby come and will just make you poo a lot.

FAWKEOFF · 28/03/2008 19:01

ewwww no dont even attempt it, it will make you ill and crap everywhere

PetitFilou1 · 28/03/2008 19:11

It is DEFINITELY an old wives tale. The only thing with any scientific basis is having sex because the prostaglandins in sperm can bring on things happening (I think that's the explanation) But personally I really don't fancy it by that point

MadameCh0let · 28/03/2008 19:19

However...

DC 1 was overdue, so with DC2 I set out to make myself poo. Sorry, tmi. But relevant here.

Not with castor oil, mind you, just with onions, cabbages, aubergines, lamb.. all the things that usually had me running for the loo. It worked. That was ten days before my due date.

rdk · 28/03/2008 19:34

great, poo .....
luckly im not over due yet but was thinking of all different options ive been taking raspberry leaf tablets .

disneystar · 28/03/2008 21:54

my mum made me drink casor oil and pure orange juice when 5 days late with ds
made me very sick, needed the loo and sent me into labour within 5 hours
baby was distressed, and the mess never again iwas soooo embarrassed
like above dont do it !!!!
try different methods, any different methods at all trust me got to be a less painful way

windygalestoday · 28/03/2008 21:56

BAD IDEA

VERY BAD IDEA ......BABIES COME WHEN THEIR READY AND NOT BEFORE ......IVE DONE IT!!!

bohemianbint · 29/03/2008 10:34

Try having sex instead, more fun and sent me almost straight into labour!

liahgen · 29/03/2008 10:45

No No No Never do this, it can be dangerous!!

mummyofsofs · 29/03/2008 10:46

NEVER EVER DO IT!!!!!!!!!

my aunty advised this when i was 1 week over due, i have never felt so ill, pooing and feeling really sick..

It did not work at all so I inflicted the pain on myself for nothing....

my baby went 2 weeks overdue then i went to be induced and found out labour had aleady started...

UniversallyChallenged · 29/03/2008 10:50

I did this with my first one - it didnt work and even now 15 years later the thought of the oil mixed with orange juice makes me feel sooooo ill ....

It didnt even make me poo which at that stage would have been a blessed side effect!

rdk · 29/03/2008 23:42

thanks ladies i dont think i will be tryin this after all ur comments its ready when its ready and i will just have to wait .ive been eating all sorts of stuff that make u go to the loo {but is this surpose to make u go in to labour pooing a lot. cause ive never heard that b4] sorry if thats a daft question but im confused

UniversallyChallenged · 30/03/2008 00:16

think it's the other way round - when you go into labour you poo a lot as the body is getting ready for a good old clear out

jaynz · 30/03/2008 03:19

A herbalist can give you a black or blue cohosh, but don't do anything except the sex, pineapple etc unless you feel that your only other option is induction. Maybe get your partner to try a gentle attempt at a sweep? Depends how game you both are
