Is sickness worse when you're carrying a girl?

I've just had 3 days of constantly throwing up, even water. It's worn off a bit now but I'm still feeling nauseas. Is sickness worse when you're carrying a girl? Also, I've really gone off meat and fish. A friend of mine said that this happened to her when she carried her boys.

DD - 10 days of MS throwing up once a day at 10.30

DB (a Boy) 4 days of feeling sick

saadia · 28/03/2008 13:53

My MW said that there tends to be more sickness with girls. With ds1 I had no sickness, in fact no symptoms, whatsoever. With ds2 I had some, but not much, feeling sick for a few days.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/03/2008 13:53

No. They are all wives tales

NatalieJane · 28/03/2008 13:53

2 boys no morning sickness

Went off meat with both of them, raw meat especially with DS2, DH had to put any raw meat in carrier bags in the fridge so I couldn't see it.

1 boy - hyperemesis!

JingleyJen · 28/03/2008 13:56

No -
Bad sickness pregnancy 1 - lost nearly 3 stone during pregnancy = Boy
No sickness pregnancy 2 = Boy

I think that the only rationale for more sickness with a girl is that there are higher levels of female hormones around - yours and hers. I certainly don't think that it's a good indicator though. I know of plenty of people pregnant with boys who have had dreadful morning sickness.

I'm also hoping that the fact that I'm not feeling quite so sick in this pregnancy doesn't mean that I'm carrying a boy. Just because I've just been through DD's baby things and they are ALL so PINK! It would be such a waste if I couldn't use them again.

1 girl and 2 boys, no sickness with any of them.

pedilia · 28/03/2008 14:11

I was sick so much with DS1 that I ended up on a drip, Ds2 I was ok until I went into labour.

DD3 & 4 nothing

IdrisTheDragon · 28/03/2008 14:12

DS - lots of sickness

DD - lots of sickness

coppertop · 28/03/2008 14:13

I was sick a lot with ds1, only once with ds2, and not at all with dd.

Celery · 28/03/2008 14:15

In my experience, yes. 2 boys, 1 girl. With the boys I had mild nausea until 11 weeks. With the girl, I had really bad sickness until 24 weeks. I knew my 3rd pregnancy was another boy based on the symptoms, and I was right!

taipo · 28/03/2008 14:18

dd - sick as a dog

ds - sick as a dog

slinkiemalinki · 28/03/2008 22:19

I can't believe there are midwives peddling this nonsense. I have been VERY lucky both times. 1st one was a girl. My nan says she was only sick with the boy (my dad), my aunties she was fine with!

PotPourri · 28/03/2008 22:22

2 girls, pretty sick with first, really sick with second, and now expecting DC3 - a surprise. But even worse sickness, from 3 weeks .

I've never heard anyone say anything about the sex of the child influencing how sick you are.... I thought it was just your luck of the draw - you either get sick when pregnant or not (i.e. every pregnancy)

BigBadMouse · 28/03/2008 22:25

I have three DCs - terrible sickness with two DDs, not bad with DS.

I have friends who have had similar experience but tbh I wouldn't say it was a definite sign of having one or the other.

sfxmum · 28/03/2008 22:26

one dd some nausea sick only once

ScoobyDoo · 28/03/2008 22:27

I had terrible Nausea with dd was never actually sick but was so so ill, 100% worse than ds.

angelbabies · 28/03/2008 22:29

DD, sickness and constant nausea until approx 17wks

DS, slight nausea until week 9 - also much better natured 2nd time round (DS)!

Remotew · 28/03/2008 22:31

One DD not sickness at all.

Lucy10 · 28/03/2008 22:32

I have a DD and had no morning sickness whatsoever. My sister has 3 girls and didn't have any with the first, a little with the second and a bit more with the third.

eekamoose · 28/03/2008 22:34

Not for me. I was pretty sick with both (well, very nauseous, anyway). Had girl, then boy. Infact, thought I was having a girl the second time around because the pregnancies were so similar. Lovely surprise when DS was presented to me - bottom end first so I could see straight away!

Lucy10 · 28/03/2008 22:34

Oh and a friend has one boy and she was sick every day throughout her pregnancy

Cadmum · 28/03/2008 22:36

It was for me...

DS1 some sickness but worse towards the end of pregnancy due to pre-eclampsia.

DD1 so sick and nauseous that i needed to take meds from 20 weeks as I had lost so much weight.

DS2 mild nausea from 9-11 weeks. Properly sick from 11-13. Smooth sailing from 13-delivery.

DD2 sick from 7-15 weeks. nausea throughout when hungry or tired.

Flibbertyjibbet · 28/03/2008 22:38

I have two boys and was sick every day for the whole time from 6 weeks till 9m.

I was told it meant the babies would have lots of hair but they both came out practically bald...

So these things are all just crap imo.
