Is sickness worse when you're carrying a girl?

I've just had 3 days of constantly throwing up, even water. It's worn off a bit now but I'm still feeling nauseas. Is sickness worse when you're carrying a girl? Also, I've really gone off meat and fish. A friend of mine said that this happened to her when she carried her boys.

I have 2 boys & had no sickness with either of them. My mum had 2 girls & also had no sickness with either pregnancy.

PortAndLemon · 28/03/2008 22:44

Had a boy, having a girl, nausea and food aversions exactly the same each time.

BabiesEverywhere · 28/03/2008 22:50

First pregnancy, had a girl and no sickness, very sick this time and having a surprise

alittleteapot · 28/03/2008 22:54

had one day of sickness and had a girl

Sakura · 28/03/2008 23:36

1 girl- Couldn`T even drink water, just like you. I went three days without eating a thing (only coke! I was unable to continue with my usual routine as I was in bed all day. It lasted about 6 weeks- they say at around 12 weeks it usually eases off and luckily mine did.

Flum · 28/03/2008 23:38

2 girls sick with 1st not with 2nd at all. Now 3rd pregnancy no sickness at all.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 28/03/2008 23:45

ds1 minor sickness till 14 weeks

dd sick as a dog till 16 weeks miserable

ds2 no sickness

ds3 no sickness

ds4 sick till 17 weeks

db6 sick still occasionally at 25 weeks

i did think girls made you sicker until last pg when he proved me wrong

now i put it down to eyes and colouring

i puke with the dark haired dark eyes ones (like dp)
NOT with the blonde blue eyed ones (like me!)

pucca · 29/03/2008 01:13

I was very sick when pg with dd, and only felt a little sick when pg with ds, so it certainly was true for me.

gem1981 · 29/03/2008 01:21

I was SO sick with my first (he was a boy)

Peachy · 29/03/2008 05:49

Used to work on a helpline for hyperemesis (v severe sickness) and no, there was no difference between boys and girls delivered at the end. It's got more to do with eprsonal make up / stress levels / tiredness and just luck I think.

shoshe · 29/03/2008 06:00

Thirteen PG's resulting in three births, sick in everyone from day one (always knew when I was PG!)

DS1 from day one till last 20 mins, (threw uo over the midwife) all day didnt matter what time it was

DS2 from day one, till I had him, but was ok in the evenings

DD from day one till had her, all day everyday!

BexieID · 29/03/2008 06:18

The only time I was sick when I was pregnant with Tom was when I had just eaten a Burger King when I was 19 weeks.

sorkycake · 29/03/2008 06:33

Dd - ill, ILL, I tell ya. I was v close to hospital at 11 weeks, 14 weeks before it was gone.

2 ds's - some mild nausea but very little vomitting.

slim22 · 29/03/2008 12:37

In my experience yes. Next to nothing for DS and 4 months crippling MS this time with DD + very slow weight gain and no interest in food.

Now as far as the explanation is concerned, it could simply be coincidence. I've never seen any science to confirm it.

On the other hand I do believe that anxiety, even mild, can make you feel queasy. And I'm definitely more anxious about mother/daughter relationship due to my family history. This might explain that.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 29/03/2008 21:15

aww slim!!!

It will be fine - from experience! I have very little experience of the mother daughter thing as i would still refrain from calling the woman that gave to me ' the M word' BUT my own dd has been lovely.

NOT as easy as ds's but at times much closer

she is 13.5 now ( not my FAVOURITE age!) but we do get along well

Fear not she will be dreamy

Sorry for hijack!

jellybeans · 29/03/2008 21:23

yes it was for me. With my 4 DD's...sick with 3 and only abit with DD1...With my boys (twins) was not sick at all and felt great, no spots etc it was fab.

snookie28 · 29/03/2008 21:42

Felt slightly nauseous for an hour or so with dd. This time haven't felt sick yet but it is only early days so don't know whether it will be dd2 or ds

CarofromWton · 29/03/2008 21:59

Really sick with both my DDs (24 hours a day)- upto 5 months with the 1st and upto 6 months with the 2nd.

I think there are a lot of myths around based on people's own experience. I nearly didn't have DD2 because I dreaded the morning sickness again, but SO MANY people reassured me that the 1st pregnancy is the worst for sickness! LIARS!

The only thing I think may be true (and I'm only basing this on my experience) is that the sickness seems to be hereditary. Both my mom and my sister had no serious pregnancy problems but we all suffered horrendous sickness for ages.

Never again!

amytheearwaxbanisher · 29/03/2008 22:14

ds no sickness at all shall report back if i conceice a dd

WendyWeber · 29/03/2008 22:17

DD1 no nausea at all; DD2 terrible nausea but no throwing up.

DS1 & DS2 some nausea but not as bad as DD2.

HTH

slim22 · 30/03/2008 02:59

Paula, thanks for the reassuring words.

My mum is actually very sweet, just quite detached, in her own world. She's great if you come into her world but totally unable to get out of her shell.

I'm sure it will be great. A real learning curve.

disneystar · 30/03/2008 08:42

for me it was....

DD1 very sick

DS1 no sickness

DS2 no sickness

DS3 no sickness

DS4 very sick

DS5 mild sickness

pg with baby boy now sickness like never before totally worse than all the others was convinced it was a girl...
no a boy i guess its all to do with the hormone levels, iknow also its to do with keeping your blood sugar levels up.

AHLH · 30/03/2008 10:55

I have a friend who is a paedeatrician and I asked her about this as I have been in and out of hospital with hyperemisis. She says that there was some Scandanavian research into it and did put a slight bias that sickness= girls, but it was only 51% sick people had girls, 49% had boys. So you could say that it is statistically true, but wouldn't hold too much store by it.

Peachy · 30/03/2008 11:20

Had HG with all 4 boys, but never had a girl so wouldn't know if i'd have ahd it then.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 30/03/2008 12:54
