Hey guys, new thread for the April due dates.

Looks like the other thread maxed out before someone could make a new one, so I'll tag a few people and then if they could tag a few and they tag a few and so on, so we can try and get everyone in.

There's no way I can get everyone tagged myself, it's a nightmare on mobile.

@Pinkstuffs I've been thinking about a dummy too even though I said I wouldn't, I also said my baby will sleep in her cot a night but she's co sleeping every night. Best laid plans...😂
She's such a sucky baby I have to sit for ages sometimes whilst she sucks my little finger n it does calm her down so I should probs just admit defeat and get the dummy n free up my hands so I can actually have a cup of tea from time to time!

MumDaisy1980 · 16/05/2024 15:16

Yes @Aprilpudding24 likewise, I’ve got the same feeling also. If not eating then seem crying for unexplained reason! Ended up feeding almost all the time.

ZB86 · 16/05/2024 15:24

@Ttcmumma sounds just like my baby! He's 4 and a half weeks and won't be put down.

Does anyone else have to keep abandoning all plans due to having to feed their screaming baby? So many times I have had to cancel going for a walk or trying to prepare food as once he starts crying the only thing that will soothe him is being fed and that on itself can take forever.
I had a section and was hoping we'd be able to start going to some groups soon but I darent book and pay for any sessions as unless something changes I can't see us being able to stick to plans for some time.

Mrsttcno1 · 16/05/2024 16:48

Honestly @ZB86 I was a bit like this at first but I’ve just starting getting on with it the last couple weeks! It seems daunting at first but I have just accepted that she’s going to need fed, she’s going to cry sometimes, but I couldn’t stay locked in the house any longer! So for the last 2 weeks I’ve just been packing a bag with everything we might need and heading off for any plans, walks etc! If she needs fed while we are out I just feed while we go (including a few park bench feeds on dog walks😂) and I actually find that she’s a much happier baby (and I’m a much happier mum) for getting out and about. She’s much less fussy out and about than she is in the house and she loves looking around from the pram! X

ZB86 · 16/05/2024 21:15

@Mrsttcno1 ah that's so reassuring to hear. I was going to abandon the idea of a walk today but delayed it instead but still had to stop 3 times when he was inconsolable. What you have said and done makes a lot of sense and I already have in my mind how hard it's going to be going back to work in 10 months time if I don't pave the right way from now.
So aware how lucky I am but gosh it's challenging! Wishing luck to everyone who's doing the night shift tonight! X

Ttcmumma · 16/05/2024 21:27

@ZB86 have you considered a baby carrier instead of a buggy? I have no choice but to go out, I have to work so she has to put up 🤦🏼‍♀️ but I find if she's in a carrier on my chest she just sleeps majority of the time lol. Much more content than in a buggy or anything x

Iamcatmum · 17/05/2024 03:45

@Janeykat I am finding the same with sleep with my 4 week old. He’ll sleep for about 2.5 hours only. And he’s only really doing this 3 rimes in a day (once at night and twice in the day), which doesn’t always fit with when I’m able to take a nap! I’m not sure how he’s getting enough sleep, but he does do tonnes of micro naps when feeding so maybe that’s adding up for him.

Finding the nights pretty horrendous - for example, tonight he’s woken up at 1.30 after 2 hours sleep and he’s unlikely to nap again until about 7am. 😩

ZB86 · 17/05/2024 07:51

@Ttcmumma I have been waiting for him to reach 8lb as my carrier says that's the minimum weight. Thankfully at 4 weeks 5 days he has finally reached 8lb so I'm going to try it in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed! X

Pinkstuffs · 17/05/2024 08:09

@ZB86 i had the same problem with my baby as he was only around 5lbs when born, I bought a moby wrap as he’s too small for the carrier, it can be used for small babies and he does like napping in it. I have to say the dummy has been a lifechanger for us and sleep 🙈 he gets 4 hour stretches now whereas before would scream all evening/when he woke up at night.

Janeykat · 17/05/2024 09:15

@Iamcatmum that sounds very like my daughter...except last night she decided to only sleep in 1 hour stretches and groaned loudly while asleep, so I think trapped wind.

Sending solidarity, the nights are so hard! I am going to start trying to express so my partner can give a bottle in the evening, and also try and find a dummy she likes...hopefully one/both of those things will allow me some extra sleep!🤞🤞

Pinkstuffs · 17/05/2024 16:09

@Janeykat mu DS spat all the dummies out at first, I found I need to hold it in his mouth for a minute until the sucking reflex kicks in and he remembers what it’s for

Ttcmumma · 17/05/2024 21:16

@ZB86 oh bless sorry didn't even think of that. My little chubster was born at 7lb 11 so we didn't have to wait long lol. When you are able to use it, I find it so helpful!

MumDaisy1980 · 20/05/2024 20:32

Heya everyone, my baby is in his 8th week. While it has been similar to everyone that he does not settle in crib, or has been constant feeding throughout the day, my situation was the other way round today.

baby started sleep more during the night, and two days ago I took the advice from health visitor saying after baby reached his birth weight, no longer need to feed every three hours. I can feed on demand. Last night was the first night he slep from 10pm to 6am!! He had a feed 6am and slept for another couple of hours in the morning. Then throughout the day the feed was every hour but only 5-10mins and doze off again throughout the day I would say he slept so much to the extent I worried if he had enough milk today! Usually the breastfeed last 20-25 mins.

i wonder if anyone experience something similar ? Would it be just an odd day ?! Just like adult sometimes don’t feel like eating that day?!

thanks!!

Ttcmumma · 20/05/2024 20:49

@MumDaisy1980 my little one will be 6 weeks on Wednesday and is behaving similar! She usually doesn't settle at all in the day and never not in my arms. The last day or two she has slept a lot in the day and I counted her ounces (expressed bottle fed) as I worried she wasn't getting enough. She only woke once in the night and didn't finish the bottle before falling back to sleep. I'm wondering if the warmer weather is having an effect too but it's not boiling yet so maybe just growing so much they need all the sleep they can get? I'm hoping they just feel more settled and comfortable to be able to get more sleep that they need 🤷🏼‍♀️

MumDaisy1980 · 21/05/2024 03:06

@Ttcmumma thanks! Interesting to hear the developemenr quite similar. Yay, on reflection, potentially is the warm weather. My room is constantly at 21-22 degree these days. Seem ideal for baby to sleep. Thanks!

Aprilpudding24 · 21/05/2024 09:12

Has anyone been using lotions, oils or creams on their baby. Mines 4 weeks old n her skin is starting to look really dry on her forehead. If I google anything there's always conflicting advice one saying use cream if her skin is dry and then the next link down will be like never moisturisers your baby's skin 🙄! If anyone has, what have you been using because I want to but don't want to use anything too strong obviously?

sugarplum33 · 21/05/2024 09:42

@Aprilpudding24 The midwife said we could use coconut oil as a natural moisturiser. My baby's rather dry and flaky too!

@MumDaisy1980 @Ttcmumma My son was even more unsettled than normal in the daytime yesterday, despite the warmth. I think they just like keeping us on our feet!

Ttcmumma · 21/05/2024 10:25

@MumDaisy1980 I can't get mine below 23-24 so annoying. Thankfully she seems ok!

@Aprilpudding24 I second coconut oil. I've been using it since day 2 as recommended by the midwife as baby girl came out sooo dry her skin started to crack and bleed. I oiled her 3 times a day for a couple weeks and now I do it when she gets dressed in the morning and after a bath. Her skins lovely now 😊

MumDaisy1980 · 21/05/2024 10:26

@Aprilpudding24 would the dry skin symptons of cradle cap? it happened to my son also around 4 weeks forehead got extremely dry skin. which in my case look exactly like cradle cap. Then I bought oil from boots. I had also use vaseline let the dry skin soak overnight, then next day use cotton pads to wipe them away, works for me too.

@sugarplum33 grhhh I hope the situation won't be long. heard so many advice from colleagues etc saying sleep will improve , promise! but when haaaa 😅

Aprilpudding24 · 21/05/2024 11:11

Thank you all for your tips! I'll give these things these a try n stop googling myself into confusion! X

Iamcatmum · 21/05/2024 16:42

@Aprilpudding24 my baby also has a dry flakey forehead. I think it’s normal for newborn skin to flake off in the early weeks. Mentioned it to the midwife today and she suggested to put some breast milk on it.

ASGIRC · 22/05/2024 14:11

Hey guys!!!

My 2 month old is now sleeping through the night (from about 10pm to about 7am), and then usually another couple of hours until 10am.
But then during the day she sleeps very little, if at all, unless shes travelling, or in the sling.
And we have to go out every day, otherwise, shes miserable, and cries all the time, and consequently, so am I! When were out and about, shes like a little angel, generally!

@Aprilpudding24 you can definitely use moisturiser on babies! You can use sweet almond oil, or any of the baby moisturisers from brands like Mustela or Uriage, or Isdin

Pinkstuffs · 22/05/2024 16:02

Hi everyone! This is probably a stupid question but my baby is 4 weeks old now and stays awake longer. What sort of
activities do you do with your babies when they’re awake? We do a bit of tummy time and sensory but sometimes find myself awake with him on my lap just staring at each other 😂

Mrsttcno1 · 22/05/2024 17:32

I’m in exactly the same boat @Pinkstuffs we do some sensory, some tummy time, some time on play mats but mostly I just take her out and about and she’s perfectly happy in her pram or the sling having a look around outside or in the shops!

ASGIRC · 22/05/2024 17:41

@Pinkstuffs I mostly just talk to her. Shes 9 weeks old, but not particularly interested in any of the sensory things. she looks at the music toy, but thats about it.
the black and white book is a wash. And she needs to be in a really good mood for tummy time, otherwise she screams the house down.

Ive gotten some toys for the pram and the boucer, but she does not care about them at all.
