Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

I have put this in the 'Health' topic as well, but not getting any replies so thought I'd try here as well.

Health topic title: I have a pregnant belly, but I'm not pregnant (well at least probably not), it is not wind, I am not due on very soon, I don't get water retention, what the hell is it?

We are TTC'ing, but I am only on CD22 now, and although I do show very early in pregnancy (about 6 weeks with DS2, and just under 6 weeks with a MC in January) I have had this belly since Friday (I think, bank holiday shave mucked up my days....) it is getting bigger and harder by the day.

Obviously being a pretty much obsessed TTC'er, first thoughts turn to pregnancy, but I know it is very very unlikely to be pregnancy causing this so early on, so if it isn't that, and none of the stuff in the title, what is it?

I am driving myself mad. DH isn't helping.

Have you taken a pregnancy test? Best to rule things out.

trace2 · 26/03/2008 09:37

hi nat did you have a scan to say you lost? as i said befor with ds i mc at 8 weeks but didnt know i was carring an other baby! i lost a twin

NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:37

Did a test, very stupidly on CD20, was to shut DH up more than anything, obviously was BFN.

I didn't get a BFP with DS2 till I was 9 days late for my period, so even if I am pregnant, CD20 was wayyyyyy too early to test.

Hiya Trace Long time no 'speak',

No didn't see anyone after the MC, but I have had normal periods since then, and if it was a twin that had survived then the HPT wouldn't have been BFN.

OP posts:
trace2 · 26/03/2008 09:44

yes nat so did i till 6months gone, but yes i think a test would show bfp if it was , but i could be wrong as i didnt retest

NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:45

Forgot to say, I was having some period-type cramping, that seems to have pretty much worn off, to be replaced with what I can only describe as tightness. Tummy muscles feel all lose but almost strained at the same time.

It does feel like early pregnancy in there, but it is the dates putting me off, surely there is no way on earth that it could be down to pregnancy? It is far too early to have all of this, isn't it?

I am just going round in cicles. My line of thought goes something like: is it pregnancy? No, wayyyyyy too early. So what the hell is it? . Shit, it has to be pregnancy because doesn't sound much fun, but it can't be pregnancy, it is wayyyyyyy too early for that..........

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:46

No if it was a surviving twin in there, I'd have been about 4 months gone by now, would deffo have shown on HPT.

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 09:47

Was your last period lighter than usual?

trace2 · 26/03/2008 09:47

lol sorry for that but you know what its like when you ttc

JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 09:48

You could be pregnant but it's just not showing up on the test, maybe hormones are different after the mc still?

Might be worth asking for a scan to make sure.

trace2 · 26/03/2008 09:50

would love to read this story i just read in take abreak: lady getting fatter did loads a tests untill she was 6 months gone asks gp why its not shown on any tests? he says these things happen

NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:51

No, my periods have been very erm.... yukky since the MC, getting better each time, but still not 'normal' for me.

LOL I know Trace, it has occured to me that I am having a phantom pregnancy..... Obviously in my head I want to be pregnant, so it is very easy to talk myself into believing that I must be now, but then my sensible voice contradicts that!

What are other causes for having a huge belly pitch itself over night?

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:52

But if I am pregnant, I would only be 3 weeks max, so it would even show on a scan.

LOL Trace, I think things like that happen in peoples heads..... ahem........

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:53

Sorry wouldn't even show on a scan.

OP posts:
trace2 · 26/03/2008 09:56

lol no nat it happens! but never to people who really want it to!

JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 09:57

You could be further along though, it's possible. An internal scan would be best. By the time you see a dr and have been referred it would be another week or two before a scan ime anyway, unless it's urgent.

NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:59

How true is that?!!

I am just going to have to wait and see aren't I?

What if it is something medically wrong though....?

Gah!

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 10:01

I didn't think even an internal scan could pick up anything at 3 weeks though?

I don't see how I could be further on, it would have shown up on the HPT.

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 10:05

Sometimes pregnancies don't show up on tests for months, rare but it happens.

JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 10:06

Also by the time you get an appt (could take couple of weeks) it would show up on a scan if you are 3 weeks now, plus you could have ovulated early etc.

belgo · 26/03/2008 10:07

An internal scan would not pick up anything at three weeks (don't think so anyway).

NJ - sorry you just have to wait.

I've found that my belly has gotten very big very quickly during this pregnancy as it follows so quickly after a miscarriage - everything is looser. I also had cramps during weeks 3-4.

Good luck!

JodieG1 · 26/03/2008 10:09

By 5 weeks it would, even at 4 weeks they would see if a pregnancy was starting or not. I've had scans that early before and seen the start of a pregnancy.

belgo · 26/03/2008 10:11

yes at four -five weeks they should be able to see something.
