Hi, thought I'd start of thread for those of us who have been through fertility treatment and are due in October 2024 :-)

I'm 6 weeks today after FET. This was our first try for a sibling (also a FET pregnancy).

Nausea is kicking my butt this time around. How is everyone else feeling?

How is everyone feeling about their early pregnancy scans?

@TheYorkshirePudding If I could do my cloth nappy journey over again, I would have bought far less nappies before birth - I would have just done the muslins and wraps and then have tried to hire a kit to see what I liked best, as different nappies really do fit differently, and its hard to know what's going to work for your family I think before baby arrives. I really like 2-part systems where you can buy less outers than inners (because the outer lay dries really quickly) and means you can in winter tumble-dry the inner absorbent parts if you want to. So if I was starting over I'd probably have gone more for that style.

@2mumlife again, thank you for this wealth of information! ❤️ SO glad I found this group. I will take some time to look through all of this with a fine-tooth comb. I’m really hoping our baby is forgiving because I feel clueless! This seems like a naive question but don’t you have to change them during the night? Won’t they have done a wee? I thought they might do a wee or a poo after a feed?

2mumlife · 10/04/2024 09:56

@TheYorkshirePudding Yes when they are little you change them through the night as they poo and wee a lot, but as they get older though (and hopefully if you're lucky sleep longer stretches!) you can start leaving them in 1 nappy overnight. I honestly can't remember how old DD was when we started only doing 1 nappy over night, but definitely wasn't until she routinely stopped pooing overnight (though we were lucky actually, she has never pooed that much overnight to be honest after the first couple of weeks).

Definitely not an expert here, just more confident now that babies are robust little things really and very forgiving (we've definitely had our moments of ridiculous epic fails 😂)

Amazing wealth of information, thanks for sharing @2mumlife😊Had our scan this morning and all is well. In the end there was no charge for the photos despite the sign on the wall with the prices! Had quite an unfriendly lady doing the scan itself and she didn't offer for us to hear the heartbeat as it felt quite rushed, but got one good clear photo. The other two photos are of baby lounging around on their front as apparently they were moving around a lot lol.

2mumlife · 10/04/2024 11:38

@Custard7891 Congrats! I'm sorry the sonographer wasn't that friendly. If it makes you feel better I didn't get to hear the heartbeat with either of mine - first time I heard DDs was at 20 week scan when they do the anatomical check of babies heart and blood flow, and once more later on with a doppler when I saw a midwife later in the pregnancy. That was it. Glad you got one clear photo and nice to have the others of baby wiggling! Hope you have a lovely rest of your day

Custard7891 · 10/04/2024 11:43

Thanks 😊 Yes I didn't know what to expect from all of the appointments really, but I was sure the appointment letter mentioned the heartbeat. We saw it at our 6w scan at least as they made a point of showing us. Even though I'm 13w based on the transfer date the size was indicating 14w, which is a bit confusing.

2mumlife · 10/04/2024 11:50

@Custard7891 At our 12 week the sonographer was very much like 'and there's babies heart beating' and moved on. The 12 week scan is really just to check how many babies you're having, if baby is alive and if its growing in the right place, estimated due date and do the NT measurement if you want it. The 20 week scan is slower as they are looking at a lot more and doing a lot more measurements, so there is more time to take everything in I find.

I think this is why a lot of people like to pay for private scans, as the NHS ones are clinical exams to determine medically whats happening, they're not actually orientated towards parental enjoyment / bonding experiences in my experience.

Its like the cervix scans I'll be going for, they always check baby is alive, but you only get to see baby for a minute as they are just focussed on getting you cervix measurement and getting you out. Growth scans were the same - check baby is alive, what position its in, and get the weight estimate and then off you go.

I wouldn't worry too much about baby measuring bigger - are there tall genes on either side?

OP posts:
Custard7891 · 10/04/2024 11:56

Definitely no tall genes here @2mumlife 😂

TheYorkshirePudding · 10/04/2024 12:03

Now you’ve mentioned tall genes.. my husband is pushing 6’4” and I’m 4’10” 🫣

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 13:31

@Custard7891 great news, I was waiting for your update!

It's a shame that your scan was a bit rushed. Did they note down the info? Like, @2mumlife says hopefully the 20 week scan is more engaging.

I'm assuming it's standard at my hospital but they handed me a note in the room that had the baby's heart rate, NT measurement, CRL, head diameter etc. it also compared the measurements against the average. I was in the
room for over 30 mins as baby wouldnt get in the right position.

Custard7891 · 10/04/2024 13:39

Aw thanks @LuxeBiscuit . Yes I got a piece of paper with the crown to rump measurement plotted on a graph, and also the nuchal fluid measurement. The heart rate just said 'present' and didn't give the bpm. I was probably only in the room for 15 mins or so then I went off to wait for the blood test part of the nuchal test. The lady who did that was much more chatty and friendly!

2mumlife · 10/04/2024 17:16

@Custard7891 Oh well! Might just be measurement error or something?

@TheYorkshirePudding Height could go either way with you then 😂

@LuxeBiscuit You got more than I did! They use an app here and literally all that's entered on this time is just number of babies and the NT measurement 😂 They've not even put the CRL and they didn't measure head circumference at our scan or measure the heart rate. They've not put up the growth chart either yet, but looking back at DD they only started plotting against the GROW chart once I started having growth scans at 28 weeks.

@2mumlife I mentioned before that I find the difference in antenatal care in the UK odd. I'm at one of the big London hospitals that does research, has a fetal medicine unit etc so maybe they do a bit more.

It's funny because the CQC rating is Requires Improvement so I was a bit concerned. But it's my nearest so I went with it.

negomi90 · 10/04/2024 19:06

Hi everyone, I've been lurking since the beginning but didn't want to post due to superstition. Lurking and seeing all the advice which has been given so far, has been amazing. Especially as this is my first pregnancy and first baby.
I've just had my 12week scan and it all looks good. It still doesn't seem real yet. But I feel more able to tell people (and thus come out of lurkdom).

2mumlife · 10/04/2024 19:09

@LuxeBiscuit To be honest I found it hit and miss with what information they put on the app with DD - varied even depending which sonographer / midwife you saw 🤦‍♀️

@negomi90 Congratulations! Glad you have felt able to say hi 👋

Sammyma · 10/04/2024 21:32

Great news to hear about scans @negomi90 and @Custard7891 !
I had mine too and got a stunning picture… can’t believe how clear it 💕. I am now measuring 13weeks 2days. So I’m now down for 14th October!
It still feels so unreal. I think if you have had any issues with fertility, it really takes a lot to believe it’s happening.

Custard7891 · 10/04/2024 22:07

Congratulations @negomi90 and @Sammyma 😊 That's great you got such a clear photo! I don't think I'm going to believe it until I can feel movement.

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 22:37

@Sammyma congrats, such good news!

2mumlife · 11/04/2024 11:27

@Sammyma Congratulations on such a positive scan! Lovely you got a really clear picture 😍

Had my 14 week first cervix length check and initial consultant appointment. Bubs was the right way round and more active which was nice to see, and the sonographer actually got us another photo which they don't usually do at cervix checks so that was lovely! I have the same consultant as last time which was nice, so just went over care plan to do extra growth checks. My cervix was looking totally fine, so we've agreed to do checks every 4 weeks rather than every 2 weeks (unless there are any issues) which I'm happy with. He was also very supportive about my plan to try to have a home birth this time which was nice, just reiterated what midwife said that as long as my growth scans are ok and there are no issues during the pregnancy he has no concerns 😁

Custard7891 · 11/04/2024 11:48

@2mumlife that's great news! And a bonus photo! Nice to have the continuity of the same consultant.

IVF23 · 11/04/2024 14:33

Lovely to see exciting scans, congratulations @Custard7891 @negomi90 @Sammyma
Great news all was well @2mumlife

TheYorkshirePudding · 11/04/2024 14:43

So happy to read everyone’s lovely news!!

2mumlife · 16/04/2024 09:33

How is everyone getting on this week?

Has anyone started feeling baby movements yet? I keep hoping I'm going to start feeling them soon with this being a second pregnancy they say you can sometimes feel it earlier than first time, but nothing yet. Really can't wait to feel baby move as I find it makes things so much more real and reassuring, and felt last time it was really when you got to start to bond a bit more.

Hope everyone is doing well

IVF23 · 16/04/2024 09:57

Hi all!

@2mumlife no nothing for me yet! I’m the same and really wanting to feel something soon 🤞🏻

I’m 17+1 now and can’t quite believe I’m quickly approaching the half way mark! My headaches and nausea have definitely got better thank goodness! We had a private gender scan at the weekend and found out we are having a baby girl 🩷🩷

2mumlife · 16/04/2024 11:02

@IVF23 So good to hear the headaches and nausea are easing. I always think its funny because the first 12 weeks see to take forever to reach, and then suddenly everything seems to go really fast I feel, until the last few weeks which seem long again! Hopefully you'll feel something soon - I only started to feel things around 18/19 weeks I think last time. I know they say it can take up to like 22/23 weeks to feel movements though. I remember with DD though there was a period when I wasn't entirely sure if what I was feeling was movements or not. I liked it later on when you can see your whole stomach move and poke out when baby moves - its both so weird but also fun.

Aw hope your private scan was special finding out the sex. Is anyone else on the board waiting until birth to know the sex? We waited lasted time and pretty sure we're just going to wait again this time.
