Hi I am 20 weeks first pregnancy, I've been told that I have a posterior placenta! I haven't felt any kicks! Flutters, bubbles popping I do but not every day! When did you start feeling more movement and what does it feel like?

I'm 28 weeks.

Was the same as you at 20. By 24 weeks it was strong flutters daily.

By 26 weeks it was as above but the occasional belly jiggle.

Now baby girl loves it and I'm getting good movement quite often. She also thoroughly enjoys kicking me in the cervix 😂. Fair warning.... It's quite a unique little jolt of lightning!!! I don't begrudge her though, she can kick where she likes.

I can't wait to see a proper foot imprint! X

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/02/2024 20:29

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and I'd say for the past 10 days to two weeks the occasional bubbles and flutters have become daily, far more substantial and at fairly regular times. I've just this minute commented to DH that it's Pilates time again, he or she must be doing their stretches Grin

I'm so happy you are finally feeling her move more, it's really nerve wracking and a constant worry wondering if the baby is okay isn't it xx

I am actually very relieved that I am not the only person that don't feel the flutters daily. I am so glad you are feeling them more now x

I was closer to 21 weeks before I definitely felt anything. My obstetrician said anywhere between 20 and 23 weeks is normal for first feeling movements for your first baby.

My first movement was I think the baby shifting position. It felt a bit like that swooping sensation you get when you have bad news. Other movements feel sort of bubble like, a bit like gas. Noticeable kicks came a bit later on.

I'm now 23+6 and feeling movements daily. He's very active when I'm trying to sleep!

Okay honestly it's such a relief knowing that you guys have gone past 20 weeks before feeling anything! I really was getting myself so stressed out thinking something was wrong

@Chelseaaaaa I was exactly the same with the worry but honestly, I am in a thread of April due date women in here and the majority of them were the same. Especially if its first pregnancy.

Was all well with your 20 week scan? Take the positives from that if so. Your baby will get stronger and bigger and start packing punches soon x

I am such a worrier as it is but constantly worrying now I am pregnant. My 20 week scan is this Monday but had a private scan at 16 weeks to be told the gender and everything was well with that very healthy heartbeat just hope she starts to wiggling soon x

I was just past 23 weeks when I felt the first kick, prior to that I didn’t feel anything not even flutters.

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 09/02/2024 22:01

@Chelseaaaaa I'm 20 weeks and also have my scan on Monday. Although I've felt baby move it's not been consistent and the past few days I've felt quite anxious about it. Sometimes I feel stronger movements but the past few days it's been fainter I guess. It's such a worry isn't it. I remember feeling anxious around this time last time with my son too because I know they say to get checked if you're concerned but realistically what could they even do at this stage should something be concerning?

That's so good tho that you are feeling movements! If I was feeling movements but they got fainter but could still feel them I wouldn't worry too much. You've only got a few more days to wait for a scan too! I hope everything is okay with you for Monday x

Thank you so so much! You guys are so lovely and have actually bought tears to my eyes it's really nice to know that it's not just me worried or know more people that didn't feel wiggles before 20 weeks!!

I will definitely let you know how
Monday goes!

Definitely think for me that makes me worried is that now I've stopped feeling so sick or not as much I feel absolutely fine and I think to myself does this mean something is wrong xxx

@Chelseaaaaa i am indeed! Thank you x

So glad you are feeling a little reassured. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the "feeling normal" for now lol. In about 7-8 weeks you won't be able to see your foof or paint your toenails 😂😂. X

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 09/02/2024 23:05

It may not be obvious. I felt 'something' at only 14 weeks. Didn't think was movement but was a feeling I'd never felt before. By 28 weeks I could see my whole stomach moving and it was a stronger version of same feeling, which is when I realised I probably felt it much earlier than I'd thought!

SH998 · 10/02/2024 05:11

@Chelseaaaaa no I have an anterior placenta, I went to the hospital at 29 weeks for reduced movement too. The monitor showed normal movement but I wasn’t able to feel this. Pretty much since 30 weeks the movements have upped and are consistent and clear.
Im now nearly 34 weeks.
Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy, if your anything like me then you will worry about absolutely everything.

Hotmalibu94 · 10/02/2024 08:01

I have an anterior placenta. First felt kicks in the 19 week window, felt like a muscle spasm! The first was once one evening and then nothing for a few days. Then she started up again and is getting stronger and stronger! Feel like once I started feeling her she got strong really quickly and my DH felt her first kick within two weeks of me starting to feel her!
I was expecting it to be later with the anterior placenta but I guess I was lucky with that :)

Hi, I read a lot on this site but I’ve never posted! I’m 16 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my second child, my first is 10 years old so a big age gap!! I’ve had a few miscarriages within the last 2 years and I am worrying a lot in this pregnancy! I’ve felt a few flutters but it’s not a daily occurrence is this normal? I think I just need some reassurance

You would get more support if you started your own thread :) very normal even to feel nothing at this stage. Have you had your 16 week appointment? In some trusts they use doppler to hear babies heartbeat.

Chloemac · 10/02/2024 12:04

Thank you!! I’ve got my appt on Tuesday ☺️

Does anyone have a posterior placenta and not felt kicks after 20 weeks?

OP posts:
QueSyrahSyrah · 10/02/2024 17:50

With kindness OP you've had several positive responses on this thread but have both asked again and started another thread. It's perfectly normal not to feel regular recognisable movements until 23/24 weeks, especially with your first baby and even with a posterior placenta.

Have you spoken to your midwife about how anxious you are?

It might be completely normal to feel less movement with first baby but it doesn't harm anyone asking for other peoples experiences sometimes it helps more to talk to people that have had the same experience to you than ask a midwife
