I am 10 + 3 weeks and I’ve had spotting from 9 weeks, but that was just slightly discoloured discharge and stopped for a few days. I had this last night (pic inserted) . I’ve not had more since, but I’m feeling a little worried as this is darker than I have previous. Has anyone else had something similar in their successful pregnancies?

I’ve had scans at 7+6 and 9+4 and all was fine. But can’t help but worry now.

I didn’t want to read and run, this looks similar to what I had with my son, a very healthy 7 year old now! I would ring your midwife and they’ll probably have you scanned just for reassurance! Looks normal to me. Have you had sex recently? Could be from that too! Also looks like old blood to me. Try not to worry ❤️

clarepetal · 07/02/2024 17:22

Similar to me. My son is 8 and healthy..go and get reassured xxx

FirsttimerMA · 07/02/2024 19:39

Hi both,

Thank you for your replies. I've had 2 early scans that were fine. The last one was last Thursday. I don't think my EPAU will scan me again until it's been a little longer.

How long did you have this spotting for?

Thank you for your message. How often did you see this spotting with your son?

I had more blood, like a normal light period. Can’t recall how long it happened for.
A little alarming but everything was fine.

PineappleBella · 07/02/2024 19:44

Every couple of days until around 13 weeks x

clarepetal · 07/02/2024 19:45

I think mine was for a few days. X Fingers crossed for you.

FirsttimerMA · 07/02/2024 19:56

Thank you for the updates guys.

I am hoping mine goes away soon. It's so stressful seeing any kind of blood. Took us time to conceive and this is our first pregnancy.

If it carries on for the next few days I might request another scan for reassurance.

FirsttimerMA · 07/02/2024 19:57

Did any of you get explanations for the spotting? Or was it unexplained?

OP posts:
PartOfTheFurniture12 · 07/02/2024 20:05

Mine was caused by medication. A bit unnerving at 30 weeks but we're still chugging along 3 weeks later. Best to contact your midwife though to be completely sure.

Hiddenvoice · 07/02/2024 20:08

I had spotting at 5-6 weeks and then again 8-9 weeks. Both lasted between 5-7 days. Epu were lovely and scanned once but said they wouldn’t do a second scan unless I had heavier spotting/ bleeding and was in pain so I booked a private scan. If you’re able to book a private scan it might help give you some reassurance?

I’m nearing my due date and the rest of my pregnancy has been fairly straight forward. When I asked about it they just said it was unexplained as my cervix was okay and they couldn’t see anything on the scans.

DearTheodosiaa · 07/02/2024 20:19

I had the same thing twice around 19 weeks. I was all checked out and they couldn't see a reason for the bleeding. But I had a swab taken which later showed that I had thrush. I think that's why I had the bleeding and after being treated, I haven't had any more bleeding. Have you been checked for any infections?

KateC1x1 · 07/02/2024 20:29

Hey, I had this for both pregnancies from the beginning to almost week 20. It's so annoying and does cause worry!

If you keep having bleeding it's worth speaking to your midwife to check for cervical ectropian as that can cause a bit of spotting in pregnancy. Tmi alert but with ectropian you can get bleeding after sex, pooping, straining, pelvic exams etc.. literally anything that can annoy it will haha.
It's harmless and does not effect pregnancy at all, but it's nice to have a reason for a bit of spotting rather than alarm bells ringing straight away.

🙂

Mine seems a similar situation. They did scan me twice but only because my GP referred me both times. Last scan was a week ago.

If it continues I may try calling them again as they did say I'm under their care. But if not private might be the way to go.

Was the private scan as reassuring as the nhs ones?

I've done a swab but no results yet. And I don't have any other symptoms of thrush. Unless it's asymptomatic. Might be worth chasing up the results.
Once you treated the thrush did it go away?

My midwife was reluctant to check internally just yet in case it gets aggravated more. But if it continues I may ask. For peace of mind at least.

I've just not been doing too much that I can imagine would trigger it. I was sat for a while, maybe the pressure did it?

DearTheodosiaa · 07/02/2024 20:59

@FirsttimerMA I didn't know I had it and could have had it for a while so things might have been a bit irritated down there.
Was prescribed a pessary and haven't had bleeding or thrush since.

KateC1x1 · 07/02/2024 21:02

Yeah I didn't get checked internally until i was 15 weeks with my 1st baby and about 20 weeks with my 2nd baby. Your midwife might be thinking along the lines of ectropian as pelvic exams deffo irritate it. I bled for maybe a week after each exam (not heavy or red but pink and upon wiping)

Honestly, sometimes I would get spotting and just going to the toilet would cause it. Tmi I know. I remember i would be absolutley terrefied after going and i would go pee about 3 times afterwards to just "check" if i was bleeding.
My midwife said to me that with ectropian once your already bleeding it's like a new graze so it can continue to get irritated over the slightest thing and be difficult to heal as in pregnancy hormones are changing rapidly.

OldTinHat · 07/02/2024 21:31

I had a lot of spotting and heavy bleeding with DC2. I even fell down the stairs! I'd had a MC previously, so was very anxious.

He'll be 24 this year.

My Dh was set against the private scan as he was worried about the results and wanted to stay within the nhs. It was my midwife who suggested the private scan as epu sadly couldn’t do it .
The private scan was actually a lovely experience. I filled out a form and explained my worries. One of the staff members took me and dh into the room and chatted about things before the sonographer took over. They gave us an option of having the screen on straight away or waiting until they could see a heart beat which made me feel like I had some sort of control over it. When we seen the heart beat and once they checked everything they just stayed on the heart beat so my dh and I could sit and watch it for a little
while.

It did stop for about two days. And then yesterday I got this after a bowel movement. It's had a light peach tint to it since :/

I might go to the doctors again Monday and see if I can get swabbed in case of infection. But I suppose if it is something like you said the midwife probably doesn't want to aggravate it.

It's just so unnerving going to the toilet each time now!

@Hiddenvoice I might mention that to DH and see what he says. Would give me peace of mind at least.

Don't mind if I ask which company you used? I think we have one called 'window to the womb' near us.

OP posts:
Hiddenvoice · 10/02/2024 16:04

@FirsttimerMA it was Window to the Womb where I went.

How’s it going? Still spotting?

KateC1x1 · 10/02/2024 20:06

@FirsttimerMA it is horrible isn't it, any bleeding in pregnancy is so scary regardless of what it is.
You could give your midwife a ring Monday or if they open over the weekend and maybe ask them to do a exam and a swab.
They may refuse as its not red or pink fresh bleeding and if you have no other signs of infection etc... but if it's something you want to do then just ask.

Like I said I didn't get examined internally until my 2nd trimester with both babies but I kept a picture log of the bleeding and just showed them.

FYI, if you've spent any time on the combined pill this can cause the ectropian
