I am 10 + 3 weeks and I’ve had spotting from 9 weeks, but that was just slightly discoloured discharge and stopped for a few days. I had this last night (pic inserted) . I’ve not had more since, but I’m feeling a little worried as this is darker than I have previous. Has anyone else had something similar in their successful pregnancies?

I’ve had scans at 7+6 and 9+4 and all was fine. But can’t help but worry now.

@FirsttimerMA it was Window to the Womb where I went.

How’s it going? Still spotting?

It stopped again for a day and then had some more today.

I rang EPAU and they just told me to wait and see if it gets worse. I'm going to try get a GP appointment tomorrow for a swab to check for infections. And maybe for another scan referral. I just need some peace of mind.

@FirsttimerMA it is horrible isn't it, any bleeding in pregnancy is so scary regardless of what it is.
You could give your midwife a ring Monday or if they open over the weekend and maybe ask them to do a exam and a swab.
They may refuse as its not red or pink fresh bleeding and if you have no other signs of infection etc... but if it's something you want to do then just ask.

Like I said I didn't get examined internally until my 2nd trimester with both babies but I kept a picture log of the bleeding and just showed them.

FYI, if you've spent any time on the combined pill this can cause the ectropian

I did call EPAU today and as you said they didn't want to check unless there was more blood. Going to try at my GP tomorrow. Though it may be hard getting an appointment on a Monday.

My anxiety is through the roof.

It’s horrible to settle your anxiety and I know how hard it is to keep busy instead of wanting to keep go and check if there’s more spotting/ bleeding .

I’m glad you phoned EPU, least they can keep a log of the calls. Sorry, I’ve forgotten if you’ve spoken to a midwife, Any chance you could try phone yours tomorrow to just chat about your worries and what’s happening?

I hope the gp is helpful and gets you a referral. If not then I’d try going for a private scan, it might help reassure you.

My midwife line is closed on a weekend, I'll try her tomorrow and see what she says.

From the pictures do you think it's getting worse?

DH and mum think I'm overthinking. But the fact it keeps happening is making me super nervous. I'm 31 and this is our first pregnancy. So really anxious.

I don’t think it is but I know it’s hard to feel relaxed when it happening to you. Mine was a lot heavier and darker in colour and i’m now nearing the end of my pregnancy. It stopped before 10 weeks thankfully but it still makes me want to double check at times!

I think the best thing to do tonight is to keep yourself busy. Try focus your mind onto something else and try your hardest to relax. It’s really difficult and much easier for me to say than you to do but trust me it helps. I remember dragging my husband to the cinema to just get out for a bit and to keep my mind off of things!

TellySavalashairbrush · 11/02/2024 16:33

I’d definitely go private and have a scan for reassurance. Likely to be something very simple and not concerning at all , but you’ll worry yourself silly waiting for the NHS .

Aha you can probably sense my anxiety through the posts.

I am trying to distract myself but it's honestly so hard. Thank you for your advice though.
I've just been reading so many horror stories online about mmc and mc starting with spotting.

I think I may have to.

Have you had anything similar?

Hi OP this happened to me on and off up until 20 weeks, it was sometimes after straining on the toilet but sometimes would just appear for no reason! Once I got into the second trimester it seemed to happen less often and I’m 30 weeks now. Scans etc have been fine. I have had a cervical ectropion in the past which was picked up when I bled during a smear test so the midwife put it down to that. EPAU weren’t super interested when I told them it was just brown discharge to be honest. It might be worth a private scan for peace of mind but sounds like you’ve already had a few?

Was your similar to the pictures I've posted in the thread?

I had a scan at 7+4 and then another at 9+4. Both scans were fine, the sonographers saw a heart beat and baby was measuring about right. Maybe a day or two less.

The discharge I've posted here is a little darker than what I initially went in for. It's been about a week and a half since the last scan.

@FirsttimerMA from the pics it's not getting worse. Still looks old and not actively bleeding.
My cervical ectropian bleeding looked exactly like yours. You could have literally used my pictures and my midwife literally didn't bat an eye at it.
I don't think your overreacting as its a very stressful time and it's easy to say don't worry but if I just go on my own experience I worried and googled daily.
Keep positive as your not getting any other symptoms and if epu thought there was a problem they would have you in for an emergency scan or a Dr to check you as they see these things daily they know what is concerning.
Pretty soon you will be getting movements from baby so the worry does settle a bit then once you know they are doing good in there!
Xx

Shortbreadfingerss · 11/02/2024 19:29

@FirsttimerMA yes it was quite similar, to be honest on occasions there was a lot more of it than you’re picturing here and the EPAU/midwife still weren’t worried.

I see, seems like everything I do causes it. I'm barely moving as it is!

I've booked another appointment with my doctor today. Will see what they suggest.

That's slightly reassuring them. Maybe I just have a super sensitive cervix.

I feel like I'm getting some slight twinges etc in my uterus. But not sure if that normal growing pain or I'm hyper aware due to the spotting. And also like a tingling sensation? It's hard to describe.

I've booked another appointment with my GP today. Hoping to at least get swabs and will see if they'll refer me again. They referred me immediately that last two times as I think it's just protocol for my surgery to do so if someone presents with bleeding.

OP posts:
KateC1x1 · 12/02/2024 10:07

@FirsttimerMA they usually just refer you immediately for any pregnancy issues as they aren't experts in it, despite being drs. Midwifes and obstetrics drs know everything about babies and pregnancy.

Twinges are normal, tingling could be the baby moving (no joke, feels like mini popcorn bubbling at the beginning)
The way to think about it is that you've got a baby, placenta, fluid, gestational sack all growing really fast inside a small area. Everything's stretching fast and for example if you had a cyst growing this fast you'd have a lot of pain. Pregnancy is painful at times.

But if it's pain and bleeding to watch out for the drs mean fresh heavy bleeding and cramping pain, similar to period pain and it gets worse before it gets better. I can't speak for everyone who's had a mc but the vast majority have extreme pain that you can't mistake for just twinges x

Saw the doc, she didn't send me for a scan but did do some swabs and he prescribes some thrush pressures for me to try just in case it is that.

I seem to be getting uti type symptoms today though so no clue what's going on.

I had a break from the spotting for two days and now it's back again. Similar to the previous picture.

I guess I'll just have to wait until my scan next Friday, unless it gets worse before then.

Thank you. I’ve had 2 previous pregnancies with no bleeding and I went to the loo and there was a streak of blood the same thickness as a strand of hair 😢 but nothing since , fingers crossed 😢

Hey,

Had my baby a couple months ago :)
But this was a sign of infection for me. I had antibiotics to treat it and all was fine after. So probably worth pushing for a swab.
