@HRP1990 its supposed to be 99.9% accurate as it checks for male dna in your blood but there is a contamination risk if done at home.

Cinai · 01/02/2024 14:11

I’m booked for my first scan today (approx 6.5 weeks) but I suddenly have second thoughts….I feel that I don’t really want to know. It doesn’t help that I had a miscarriage only 3 months ago which I found out about at my previous scan around the same gestation. The scan is with a consultant. I consider just going to the appointment and discuss supplements and medications (I have a thyroid disease which needs controlling during pregnancy and I feel this can’t wait for my NHS appointment in distant future, so I booked a private appointment). But it probably would be silly not to do the scan while I’m there? Sorry for rambling on..can anyone talk some sense into me?

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 01/02/2024 14:25

@Cat2022 They won't tell you the gender on the NHS? Whaaaat? What madness is this?? I thought they can see at the 20 weeks scan, no?

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 01/02/2024 14:30

@Cinai the scan won't change the facts though i.e. if it's bad news you'd just be prolonging the time spent grieving. And if it's good news, it's time spent not celebrating! It's so hard being a woman, I honestly had no idea how nerve wracking this whole pregnancy thing is! But the rational, logical thing is to just get on with it and get the scan.

Full disclosure - I am struggling to be rational and measured these days but it's much easier to give advice than take it 😂

Cinai · 01/02/2024 14:34

Thanks @TTCSoManyQuestions88 I’m having a head-in-the-sand reaction and you’re right, of course, avoiding the situation won’t change anything. Oh God I find it so hard to be rational in early pregnancy.

Xur · 01/02/2024 14:42

@Cinai one of my biggest fears is lcarrying a dead fetus in me without knowing. So that is my main motivation to be informed and have the scans.

MudandMoet · 01/02/2024 14:50

Just catching up gorgeous mammas ...

Hi new ladies, welcome to the club 🫶🏻

@Xur great scan pics! Lovely that you're a day in front too 🥰

@ForeverHopeful67 hopeful, I have a tilted uterus too (also bicornuate, I must be seriously f*cked up down there!) oh my days the pressure of that probe when they have to go to the side to get a good pic is immense isn't it. She did apologise when she did mine but said she was really struggling with measurements because of how tilted it was. Since 9 weeks my scans have been via the tummy so a lot more pleasant.

@HoneyandSunshine sorry you're still deflated by their response. Are you the type that will say something or just move on from it? We still haven't told anyone. I think because of my age people won't be expecting it and will be seriously shocked when we've been trying secretly for years! We have a nice free easy (ish) life and I imagine people will think why change that now, hard to explain what I mean. I will be annoyed if I don't get a positive reaction, I can't lie.

@Decaffe at my last scan (9 weeks 0 days) she said I was measuring 22mm so that seems to work from your chart.

@Lillers I'm intrigued as to the 'baby on board badge' ... what is one and did your neighbours see it and definitely know?

@Cinai ahhh definitely have it and come back and tell us about it later.... I think you'll regret not having it xx

Lillers · 01/02/2024 15:22

@TTCSoManyQuestions88 I can’t remember where it is, but there are some NHS trusts in the UK where they won’t tell the baby’s gender because of a higher concentration of patients from particular cultural backgrounds due to the risk of girls being aborted. I can’t remember where though.

@MudandMoet ’Baby on Board’ badges are really common in London. They’re provided free of charge from TFL and it literally is just a badge you can wear to let people know you might need to sit down on public transport, or understand that you’re pregnant if you need medical assistance while out in public. The neighbours definitely saw it!

rupertbear91 · 01/02/2024 15:23

I finally got seen at EPU today and baby is doing well and has a strong heartbeat I cried I was so relieved 😂 measuring 2 days behind my dates so happy with that at this stage

Xur · 01/02/2024 15:26

@rupertbear91 awww congratulations 🥳 ❤️& hello baby 😍

Cat2022 · 01/02/2024 15:37

@TTCSoManyQuestions88 its trust dependant, i got told here it is because a few years ago they got it wrong a few times so stopped telling people.

@Cinai i would get the scan if its being offered. Im only putting one off as I’d have to book a private scan and they are all at awkward times. I hope your appointment goes well.

Kate543 · 01/02/2024 15:50

Ah brilliant news @rupertbear91!

I got my letter for my nhs dating scan come through for the 12th of feb, this seems abit early because I will still only be 10 weeks but still so excited

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 01/02/2024 16:31

@Cat2022 i had no sickness when pregnant with my DS and loads when pregnant with my DD so it was true for me. It’s actually based in fact because for those who are susceptible to morning sickness, the higher the hcg the sicker you are likely to be, and hcg tends to be higher with girls. However there is a range for both sexes and also a range for how sensitive each person is to it so I think it’s only really possible to draw conclusions when you’ve had 2 kids of different sexes.

Im feeling quite sick this time so already wondering if it’s a girl. My DS is the only grandson and has a sister and 6 female cousins so I was kind of leaning towards wanting a boy but will be lovely either way!

Xur · 01/02/2024 16:32

My NHS scan appears to be on the 22nd of Feb! At least that’s what I think has appeared on the badger app. I will be 11+4 then

Ohhh look at that little bean!!!!b so pleased for you ❤️

rupertbear91 · 01/02/2024 16:47

Thanks everyone I am exhausted after the last 2 days runaround baby has given us 😂 good news as well they have recommended a safe anti sickness tablet for the gp to prescribe me so hoping I can start eating again soon!

HRP1990 · 01/02/2024 17:06

So pleased for you @rupertbear91 🫶🏼

Amazing that all the 12 week scans are coming through too! Mine isn’t until 6th March, but at least it’s now Feb, I can say it’s next month lol still feels forever away though!

MudandMoet · 01/02/2024 17:08

@Lillers wow that's so incredible, Im a proper country bumpkin and have never heard of them but I guess in a busy city (thinking crowded tubes etc) then it makes sense to let people know.

Yay! @rupertbear91 lovely scan pic! 🥰

@Kate543 that does seem an early one at 10 weeks, I'm the other end of the scale, mines the 22nd and I'll be exactly 13 weeks! Just noticed, same date as you @Xur

I'm 10 weeks today, passed my MC milestone finallllllly!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳

hol92 · 01/02/2024 17:15

My best friend guessed I was pregnant today! (After not being able to eat lunch lol) now I feel bad that my mum doesn't know so we think we are going to tell our parents but to keep it quite for now, has anyone else told parents early on? Will be nice to not have to pretend I don't feel like shite any more to be fair!

Also any ideas on second pregnancy announcement to parents over WhatsApp when we don't have a scan photo haha x

Bakerbean · 01/02/2024 17:22

@hol92 we are telling my Mum & MIL this weekend, providing we have a positive scan on Saturday! 🙏🏻

rupertbear91 · 01/02/2024 17:26

@hol92 we told my parents last weekend because I was so unwell. It's been good having their support with me having hospital trips this week I'm not sure I would have managed without them knowing!

Lillers · 01/02/2024 17:32

@hol92 I told my Mum & sister the day after we found out. It was Mum’s birthday weekend - we found out on the Friday night and we were seeing them on the Saturday, and I wanted to be honest about why I wasn’t drinking. I didn’t want it to be a big deal with how early it was, so I just sent them a message on Saturday morning saying something like, “We’ve just found out I’m pregnant - we are excited but don’t want to make a big deal out of it yet, but wanted you to know why I’m not drinking today!” If I hadn’t been seeing them then, I would have still told them a few days later but probably would have put more thought into how! I am a bit jealous that my husband still gets to do a proper announcement for his family - if all goes well he’s going to give his dad a birthday card for “Grandad”.
We’re going away with my family the weekend I hit 12 weeks (prebooked family break) so I said we’d do the proper announcement and celebrations then (even though the only people there who won’t know will be my little nieces!)

Xur · 01/02/2024 17:41

@MudandMoet Oh! What time is yours? Mine is at 11:20

@hol92 I would put a bun in the oven, switch the light on inside make a video or a picture with it and ask them so solve the riddle 😂

MrsB2019x · 01/02/2024 17:54

Beautiful scan @rupertbear91 😍

Has anyone not had their 12 week scan through yet? I’m 9+1 today so I thought I would have had a date by now. Unless you need to have had your booking appointment to trigger it? Mine isn’t til Tuesday at 9+6 😕

MudandMoet · 01/02/2024 18:00

@Xur 2:45. I'm not sure about your EPU but mine (as great and lovely as they are) are soooo pissing slow, never on time and always seem to have lots of staff wandering around drinking teas and generally chit chatting. I've been in there enough times these last 3 years to observe, they're fab once you're in but getting in is another issue - and don't even start me on the hospital f*cking parking. I'm in a rage before I even get in the unit 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️
