Congrats @Hankthehonk!

@KayakingBex I'm so sorry, hopefully baby gets a wriggle on and you can take something for that painful sounding rash.

Well I had my sweep and it was fine. Was expecting it to hurt, but it didn't at all. Have had some weird cramps when walking. But the midwife also said it's likely you'll need 2-3 so has booked me in for more, so I'm not too hopeful to go into labour tonight sadly

RachLeeds · 05/02/2024 18:16

Congratulations @Hankthehonk! lovely news ☺️

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m glad your sweep didn’t hurt! Crazy how people’s experiences can vary so much. Do you know how long they leave before trying again?

Mumtothreex · 05/02/2024 18:21

Well, I’ve had my third sweep today 😫 was hoping things would start after the first but here I am. Had a male consultant do it today so maybe the bigger hands and strength will make a difference 🤞🏼😂 3cm dilated and very favourable cervix apparently. Have lost large amounts of plug/mucus but nothing other than that over the last few days. We shall see x

DmcinT · 05/02/2024 18:41

@Hankthehonk 🎉🎉🥳 omg I’m so delighted for u🥰 after everything you’ve been through it’s just the best news to see, I hope u are both doing well (if last March’s version of u could see u now😪🥺🌈) sending so much love and enjoy every second of ur bubble xx

I was really unsure about a sweep this week but hearing lots of stories of it taking 2-3 sweeps I think I might actually get one now 🫣 how long is left between sweeps does anyone know?

ive quite sharp regular pains right down at the opening of my cervix, not sure what this is 🫣

Mumtothreex · 05/02/2024 18:46

It’s 48hrs between sweeps. That will be ‘fanny daggers’ I get them regularly feels like baby is clawing my cervix @DmcinT

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/02/2024 18:51

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX fingers crossed we both have better luck with our cervix/sweeps this week 😀

DmcinT · 05/02/2024 18:52

Thanks @Mumtothreex so a week really if u need a few.
Fanny daggers… delightful 😂😅 I’ve a whole new vocabulary over the last 9 months lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 05/02/2024 19:05

@RachLeeds and @DmcinT I'm booked in next Monday, and then the third after that, but I think that's just when they had available appointments as they only do clinics twice a week at my Drs.

@Mumtothreex that sounds hopeful!

I don't think I realised that it doesn't happen for a lot of women after just one sweep sigh. Kind of pinned my hopes to it a bit

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 05/02/2024 19:11

@CheeseAndCrackersx yes 😀😂 are you going to opt for a s&s then if your cervix is favourable? When is your next appointement with your midwife? Remind me how far along are you?

@Hankthehonk congratulations to you 💕

DmcinT · 05/02/2024 19:23

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 same as that but speaking with a few friends today they said it took a few sweeps to get things moving and for some it didn’t work at all🙈 prob best to get on it now at 39 weeks rather than leave to 40+ I’m thinking.
hoping Mondays works for u or maybe even before that 🤞🏽

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/02/2024 19:34

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and that's when my appointment is too 😊

I have had a increase in discharge the past 2 days so unsure if that's a sign or not x

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 05/02/2024 19:42

@CheeseAndCrackersx oh so you must be due on 13th of Feb then? I'm due 12th & 39 weeks today.. over last few weeks I've had an increase in discharge but especially in last week its like everyday 🤦‍♀️ our vagina's are getting moist & ready for pushing a baby out that's why 🤣 you'll have to let me know how yours goes, mine is Wednesday if my cervix is favourable but not sure whether to go for it or not as never had a s&s before lol x

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/02/2024 19:53

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX yeah the 13th 😀
I'm gonna have 1 just to see if it triggers anything 😊 but I guess it all depends whether my cervix has come lower. I'm not getting my hopes up tonight just incase 😄xx

Meeting · 05/02/2024 19:56

I'm also hoping for more luck this week after not being able to have the sweep last week!

Mines on Thurs which is the day before my due date, fingers crossed for all the sweeps 🤞

AbsolutePlonker · 05/02/2024 19:58

Hey all, sorry to butt back in after so long, I kept forgetting to follow the new threads!! Congratulations to everyone who has had their baby!!

I'm due tomorrow and the baby is SO high (although head down at least) so my midwife says she won't do a sweep just yet as my cervix is shut tight. I'm so impatient... I feel like we've tried everything to get things started?? Including loads of 🍆🍆
Anyone got suggestions? My first baby was also 9 days late but I was in a lot less discomfort, plus they now induce at my trust at 41 weeks rather than 42 so the clock is ticking!

Cheetocat · 05/02/2024 19:59

This is a bit weird but I'm notícing a smell on my boobs, it's not a bad smell, it's kind of musky/earthy, doesn't smell foul or like BO. I don't have any rashes or skin conditions in the area and it comes right back after a shower. Could that be caused by hormones or maybe the colostrum?

AllAboardTootToot · 05/02/2024 20:56

Due on 29th @undercoverhero74 . What’s your date?

OP posts:
RachLeeds · 05/02/2024 21:05

I’m due on the 11th but I don’t have an appointment until the 13th so I’ll be 40+2 for first sweep. It’s also at the Town Hall (not GP surgery) so that made me laugh too, hopefully they have a curtain 🤣

AllAboardTootToot · 06/02/2024 05:12

Alfresco style @RachLeeds 😳😂

undercoverhero74 · 06/02/2024 06:54

@AllAboardTootToot aww a leap year baby!!! I'm due 26th Feb but with baby still measuring small they want to induce at 39 weeks. I'm hoping at my next scan baby has put some weight on and they decide not to intervene 😊

Meeting · 06/02/2024 07:56

Well still absolutely no signs of arrival for me. Means I need to start thinking about whether or not to accept the induction towards the end of next week if nothing changes.

I'm just so terrified of having a c section, verging on phobia and I've heard there's a higher chance with induction!

Are you able to speak to any friends that have had sections? I’ve spoken with friends who have gone through sections and vaginal delivery and hands down they all say the recovery was actually easiest post section.
It will definitely vary from person to person, but I feel there’s A LOT of fear mongering about sections. Depending on circumstances they can be a lot safer - that’s certainly why I’m having one because of risks of vaginal in my case.

Hankthehonk · 06/02/2024 08:11

@Meeting you'll have your own reasons for not wanting a section, and of course everyone is different. But I just wanted to say that my planned section yesterday was a really positive and calm experience. So much more positive than my daughter's vaginal birth which admittedly involved induction, ventouse and episiotomy. We're not planning any more kids so I guess I'll never experience the unicorn natural birth 😂
My scar hurts of course and I know c section recovery needs to be managed carefully but I'm not in any more pain today than I was the day after dd's birth.
It might be a good idea to speak to midwife or someone else about your fears around a section, just in case it comes to pass. It also sounds like it pro a won't need to be the case for you though, we had no choice as baby was stubbornly breech.

Thank you so much for sharing this, I have my planned section tomorrow! Really great to hear you had a positive time, and congratulations!

I think the narrative really needs to change around “natural” births. It’s verging on irresponsible at times this push for totally “natural” births with no medical interventions. Look at the morbidity rates from centuries ago or countries with poor healthcare. We are extremely privileged to have support of medicine - and I’m sure anyone without that would give their right arm for an “unnatural” but safe birth.

Meeting · 06/02/2024 09:16

@redxlondon I'm the first of my friends to have a baby! Totally agree about the scaremongering and I guess it's worked on me as I'm genuinely terrified of section/forceps/epidural basically all of it. I know there's a very good chance I'll need at least one of them but I try not to read up about them as it's all so negative, which just creates a fear of the unknown!

@Hankthehonk congratulations on yours and thanks so much for the reassurance! I think you're right and I'm going to chat with midwife at my appointment on Thurs to try and get her to calm my nerves about the different options
