My baby projectile vomited after feeding from my right side twice - health visitor suggested hand expressing a little bit briefly and lying back while I fed baby. Haven't had any vomiting since, just a little bit of spew. Apparently it happens when you have a very fast letdown or if your breast is really engorged or full, as baby gets too much milk too quickly!

We’ve been putting in infacol into every formula feed and it’s made a huge difference. Before he was spitting up all the time and I was getting worried especially as we were trying to his weight up but we think it was more to do with the fact he wasn’t able to bring up the wind. Infacol makes it into a bigger bubble so you get a good burp and get the wind up and since then he hardly spits up at all. We also keep him sitting upright for 10-15 mins after feeding to decrease the chance of him splitting up. My mum used infacol with me when I was a newborn as I had terrible colic and we are finding it a lifesaver too so I’ve stocked up so we don’t run out.

I’ve had to go and had my c-section wound checked as I noticed the tiniest amount of fluid coming out and that one of the external stitches had opened slightly. Had to have it redressed with iodine so hoping that will protect it and help it heal. Has anyone else had issues?

chloesl1808 · 08/01/2024 21:30

Does anyone wake their baby for feeds when they would be due the feed? (Within the 3-4 hour window)

I have been waiting for my baby to wake up then I feed her but it seems she is 'over hungry' and absolutely demolishes the bottle then looks for more. It's as though she thinks she has 2 feeds to bank lol.

gurlwhaat · 08/01/2024 22:43

@chloesl1808 We’ve been waking our baby up every 3 hours during the day and every 4 at night as we are trying to get him back to his birth weight but I think generally the advice is to wake them up for feeds to make sure they’re getting a minimum of 8 per day?

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 08/01/2024 23:19

Depends on babies weight. Mine came out at 9lb 2oz, so they were much less stressed even in the hospital about waking mine to feed. They said absolutely must feed within 6 but other babies they were waking up and all sorts. Also breastfeeding but he only lost 6% from birth weight and was up to birth weight again a week later. Once at birth weight again they weren't bothered about waking to feed as gaining well. He's always awake within 3 hours (usually 2 or less) to feed anyway 😅. Maybe chat with health visitor regarding maybe longer stretches at night and more bottles in day or bigger bottles to make up for longer stretches?

Charlielechat · 08/01/2024 23:35

@FlyingHighFlyingLow Glad to hear of someone else's baby waking often to feed 🙈 My baby is sometimes waking after an hour to feed. Are your feeds long? His are usually 30-45 minutes so I do wonder if he really needs them every 2 hours in the night but I suppose he's only 3 weeks still.

99SR · 09/01/2024 01:01

@chloesl1808 i was told to not let her go over 4/5 hours as she would be too hungry..

@Charlielechat our babies sound similar. Mine was up every 2 hours last night and yesterday during the day looking for a bottle every 2 hours! She’s 3 weeks old too. She’s refused 3 bottles today but that’s a diff story… the health visitor thinks she might have a milk allergy 😩

user2233 · 09/01/2024 05:27

Hi,

Sorry for just jumping on this thread but desperation has led me here.

@Vsah22 Please can you confirm as to if you put the Infacol directly in the bottle with formula in it to help baby? My baby finds it difficult to get a burp out and therefore is quite unsettled. I've been trying to give her Infacol with the dropper, but she doesn't like the taste, pulls faces and starts crying. She also chokes on it 🙈. Would defo help if I could add it to formula but not sure if it's the correct way/ruins the effectiveness?

Thanks x

Vsah22 · 09/01/2024 05:48

@user2233 That’s exactly what we do, we use the dropper and add it to the formula and it’s definitely working, currently just using one dropper of it but I think you can do two. We get large burps now post feed or during it when we stop to wind him and now he’s even sometimes burping himself which didn’t happen before. We were really struggling to get any wind out before and it was causing issues both with him spitting up but also making him think he was full when he wasn’t.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 09/01/2024 08:06

@Charlielechat feeds more like 10-15 min but he only fed for 5 as a newborn and still put on 100g every 2 days, so he seems to be a rather efficient feeder!

FirstMondayInMay · 09/01/2024 14:25

@user2233 I've also been putting infacol into the formula rather than straight into baby’s mouth and it’s working a treat! He manages a good 2/3 massive burps per feed now, we were getting none at all before.

my health visitor said to also try gripe water when they reach a month old. Might be worth a try if baby is old enough?

Nclktnntt · 11/01/2024 18:53

Hi everyone,

How are we all getting on? My little man was discharged yesterday evening and we were home late last night and had our first night and day at home. It's been amazing! I can't believe he's a week old tomorrow.

I wanted to share an app I have found , that I've been using today to log his nappies, feeds and sleep. It's really good and though you guys might like it too- it's called baby tracker. I'll share the pic of the icon for you.

Hey @Nclktnntt glad to hear you're both home now.
Time seems to go so fast doesn't it! My little boy is entering his third week now and is constantly hungry - I think he's entering a growth spurt. We're finding that he'll drink all the milk in a bottle and vomit but then 5 mins later is ravenous again.
Today has been a day of constant feeds, nappy changes and he's spat up milk on both his father and me 🤣

I've just downloaded this app, it looks great so thanks for mentioning it. Up to now we've just been tracking feeds in a calendar so will be easier to input in the app 😊

Nclktnntt · 12/01/2024 06:38

@Beans1982 i'm finding it's brilliant tool, and so easy to use, I was using notes before.

We're responsive feeding and I wanted to know roughly how to know how much food he should be having throughout a day as a minimum. Our community midwife who came out yesterday said he's a big lad and will want more than the suggested and if he wants it, give it him. He's going to be tall and big, we're here words 😂.

I already knew he's a greedy guts because he was back above his birth weight on day 5 😂😂

I think 3 -4 week mark is a growth spurt time.

Quick question on nappy changes, do you change your little ones nappy if they're asleep or wait until the tell you? And / or wake?

Our little one is so chilled, he'll sit in his own crap and not cry about it. I've noticed he squirms more it means he's likely to need it changing but he's asleep, so ill wake him by changing it. The couple times I've tried it's sent him out of his rhythm for the rest of the day.

OP posts:
Mushroo · 12/01/2024 08:01

@Nclktnntt i wait until she’s awake to change, but I’ve noticed she doesn’t tend to settle with a dirty nappy anyway.

How often is your little one waking? I’d let him sleep if you think he’ll be waking up soon, but if he poops and you think he’d wake up naturally about 3 hours later I’d change.

Nclktnntt · 12/01/2024 08:07

He wakes around 2.5 hour after going down. I've heard lots of grunting and straight legs (his poop queues) but he's conked out sleep wise. He won't actually wake, and even when he does, he doesn't cry or moan, you have to look to know if he's done anything.

I've chose to leave him, and wait till he wakes up on his own and have a little pattern he's now getting used too bless him.

Is anyone taking their baby to baby massage class?

Has anyone attended these before and are they worth it?

Thanks

ejg504 · 12/01/2024 19:41

@chloesl1808 I did with my first. I really liked it and I'm using the 'routine' with my December baby.

GL1987 · 12/01/2024 20:13

@chloesl1808 I did baby massage with my first but we did it later when she was 5 months old. We really enjoyed it but would recommend doing it earlier than that when they don't move as much!
I am looking for somewhere to do it again this time.

Charlielechat · 12/01/2024 22:31

@chloesl1808 I've booked some baby massage sessions for when my boy is 6 weeks old. He loves me rubbing his feet so I think he'll enjoy it!

Orianna will be around that age when the class I am interested will start. Think I will go ahead and book!

Nclktnntt · 13/01/2024 15:53

I wanna take our little man to baby yoga and baby massage classes too. I want to also take him swimming. I wanted to take him swimming from like week 2 but due to my C-section I think I'll be best waiting till the 6 week all clear stage.

I was told on being discharged that as long as I feel happy too and I can confidently do an emergency stop, I'm fine to drive. I wouldn't just yet but definitely before the 6 weeks is up I'd imagine I will. She did say you have to tell you insurance company though, so I'm guessing they would say no.

@Nclktnntt I called my insurance company last week when I was 4 weeks post op
im fine to drive, the only thing is if there was an accident I wouldn’t be able to claim for any personal injuries that relate to my surgery.
