I know one, would be mid 20’s. She’s not chavvy and is currently acting. It suits her.

SkiingIsHeaven · 25/11/2023 00:38

What Twyla school friends or future employers think?

Gowlett · 25/11/2023 00:40

Disney character. Tinkerbell’s twin?

fridaynight1 · 25/11/2023 01:00

Pretty sure that's very similar to the name on my toilet.

CallieQ · 25/11/2023 01:01

Noooooo

Pollywoddles · 25/11/2023 01:03

Schitts Creek. It always grated on me, awful name.

Don’t give your kid a weird name. Don’t give them a name with a weird spelling. Don’t give them a name that’s hard to pronounce.

Just don’t do it. They’ll be stuck with it forever, and it’ll make life that little bit more difficult and embarrassing for them.

I say this as someone whose surname is unusual, hard to say and hard to spell. My whole life has been made ever so slightly more awkward because of it. My parents had no choice really about surname. But first name? I’m glad they picked a normal one. And there are plenty of normal ones that aren’t that common, if you don’t want six kids in the class with the same name.

It's only 'weird' if you're dealing with people who have a narrow frame of reference.

It's completely phonetic and very easy to say. It's the exact opposite of a surname that is hard to say and hard to spell.

usererror99 · 25/11/2023 06:39

No it's just plain chavvy and down market and yes I would make certain judgmental assumptions about you

Kimten · 25/11/2023 06:44

I take it that you're really into ballet?
Twyla Tharp.

I wouldn't like it. I think it sounds similar to Twyfords - who make toilets.

UseOfWeapons · 25/11/2023 06:53

Sorry, no, it’s really awful.

I've only ever heard of Twyla Tharp but yes, people nowadays will think of Schitts Creek, I should think. I don't dislike it, but it's maybe a bit divisive 😳

Other names in the same sort of style, for me:

Margot
Nina
Petra (I think because of Ballet Shoes 😁)
Thea
Talia
Corinne
Hester

I need to know your reason for thinking Corinne is in the same vein as Twyla!

I can’t see it as phonetic.

if I pronounced phonetically, I’d say it as

t-w-y - la
Ie tuh - wuh - ee - La

Mimilamore · 25/11/2023 15:12

Love it... really pretty and unusual

I guess I think of them both as quite early C 20th, also European in origin, dual syllable, feminine and fairly unusual - a bit artsy.

MoonstoneGoddess · 25/11/2023 22:39

Is this a joke. Its hideous . The child will be bullied

glasspaw · 26/11/2023 19:24

If you like it then use it. Our son has an unusual name and we were careful not to mention it to anyone once we decided on it until he was born because we knew it would divide opinion.

once the name is not theoretical and is instead how you are introducing your baby, people will warm to it. If they don’t, then that’s their problem :)

Just looks made up.
