Other things from the Hogfather, Death seems rather non plussed when he asked "Someone name the child Twyla?" and "They were named Gawain and Twyler by people who apparantly loved them"...paraphrasing as I dont have the book to hand but you get the idea!

I love it but I’m a massive schitts creek fan

Knew a Twilight.

jadey1991 · 24/11/2023 21:54

I like the name, it's unique. I love unique names.

Mamato29192 · 24/11/2023 21:54

Don't like it

Tiiredofthiss · 24/11/2023 21:57

This has become so popular since Schitts Creek. I don't dislike the name but it does make me think of an irritating TV character 😂

jhy · 24/11/2023 21:57

Sounds like how my toddler would say 'Tyler'. Don't do it!

Haha I feel like that’s a fairly unanimous no then! Actually very helpful thank you.

and yes currently rewatching schitts creek…

Then go for Alexis instead. Much nicer.

NoraLuka · 24/11/2023 22:07

I think it’s pretty, never seen Schitts creek or heard of any of the famous Twylas. It has a country & western singer kind of vibe.

GuitarGeorgina · 24/11/2023 22:08

Schitt’s creek

carrotcakeagain · 24/11/2023 22:09

No

Shakeylegs · 24/11/2023 22:09

Don’t give your kid a weird name. Don’t give them a name with a weird spelling. Don’t give them a name that’s hard to pronounce.

Just don’t do it. They’ll be stuck with it forever, and it’ll make life that little bit more difficult and embarrassing for them.

I say this as someone whose surname is unusual, hard to say and hard to spell. My whole life has been made ever so slightly more awkward because of it. My parents had no choice really about surname. But first name? I’m glad they picked a normal one. And there are plenty of normal ones that aren’t that common, if you don’t want six kids in the class with the same name.

honeyfox · 24/11/2023 22:13

Well I like it!

MrsCarson · 24/11/2023 22:16

It's a very cowboy type name. Along with Shelbi, Taylor, Macy. etc.

kitsuneghost · 24/11/2023 22:18

I saw it as pronounced Twila and thought of turkey twizzlers.

topnoddy · 24/11/2023 22:24

Do 'king what ?

Blimey Charlie that's just trying way too hard innit .

TheAccidental · 24/11/2023 22:26

I've never heard of it before this thread. Have said it aloud a few times and can't get past the fact it sounds to my ear like someone with a speech impediment that can't say their r's. But I don't think it's horrible, and if I met one I'd be interested to know where it came from/what it meant. And if someone told me they were named after a character from a TV show, well, I'd think that was as good a place as any to take inspiration from.

Enko · 25/11/2023 00:01

I really like it and Ive never heard of the show.

Dinnerdate1 · 25/11/2023 00:09

I love this. Also loved Schitts Creek.

Handsnotwands · 25/11/2023 00:19

I sort of love it. It reminds me of twilight and owls and maybe skylarks 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wintersgirl · 25/11/2023 00:24

Sounds like a chocolate bar...

Lindy2 · 25/11/2023 00:27

It sounds like a toddler with a lisp trying to say Tyler.

DwightDFlysenhower · 25/11/2023 00:28

I've only heard of Twyla Tharp.

I've just read more about her and her sister was called Twanette, and she had twin brothers Stanley and Stanford. So I'm not sure Mr and Mrs Tharp are the best people to copy when it come to baby names...

(I actually don't dislike the sound, but I'd definitely do some more research into it if I were thinking of using it.)

junbean · 25/11/2023 00:28

I'm from Texas where this would be considered really cute. I first think of the singer. We pronounce it Twy-luh. If you like it go for it. There's a reason why they say never share your name, it's always going to get 💩on.
