Not good.

HannV · 24/11/2023 20:55

Jesus I'm very quiet on here but it's BAD

maddiemookins16mum · 24/11/2023 21:03

Nope it’s awful and is a name given to a child by someone giving little thought to their child in future years.
It’s the sort of name a gaggle of teenage girls would choose for their pretend child as they sit chatting with each other.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/11/2023 21:06

There was a poster on here who wants to call her child Percy the other day. This is marginally worse than that…

Riverlee · 24/11/2023 21:07

Just had to look how it was pronounced. I wouldn’t have known by looking at it.

Gillypie23 · 24/11/2023 21:08

God awful name.

GreatGateauxsby · 24/11/2023 21:08

hard no.

unless you live to south Virginia or Georgia or something.. then it’s a plain No.

Ruthietuthie · 24/11/2023 21:11

It's a very American name. When I think of Twyla, I think of the esteemed choreographer and dancer Twyla Tharp.
I actually think it is really lovely. And, as it has a long history, definitely isn't in the category of "made up names."
Sometimes, I read names that people hate and think that what is showing is those posters' ignorance (of other cultures, of literature, of the arts).

seafronty · 24/11/2023 21:14

No quirky, just shite.

Libmama · 24/11/2023 21:19

I know one. She’s from a Plymouth brethren family who are known for having completely bonkers names!

@zurala, I don't even know where to start with your comment... (!)
For the record, in the US, near 80% of Twylas are white.

Huh?

saraclara · 24/11/2023 21:25

Seriously, the ignorance on this thread is grim.
There's a world outside of the UK, you know.

Fink · 24/11/2023 21:25

There's a Terry Pratchett character called Twyla. The commentary says 'which shows the damage that can be done when untrained people are let loose with a book of baby names.'

Dotcheck · 24/11/2023 21:25

Twyla is not a made up name. It’s real and very normal in North America.
Some really ignorant responses on here

isitshe · 24/11/2023 21:26

It's too niche. It would date very quickly.

Iwasafool · 24/11/2023 21:28

DiamandaTheGreat · 24/11/2023 20:18

I've only ever heard of Twyla Tharp but yes, people nowadays will think of Schitts Creek, I should think. I don't dislike it, but it's maybe a bit divisive 😳

Other names in the same sort of style, for me:

Margot
Nina
Petra (I think because of Ballet Shoes 😁)
Thea
Talia
Corinne
Hester

Petra will always be the Blue Peter dog. Probably before most of you were born.

dontdillydallytoolong · 24/11/2023 21:32

Please don’t

Whalewatchers · 24/11/2023 21:40

Tw(at) was honestly what came to my mind

theduchessofspork · 24/11/2023 21:41

Too twee

Tweela

mathanxiety · 24/11/2023 21:43

It's not a made up name.

It's a bit dated, a sort of a 1930s name. I'd associate it with the American South.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 24/11/2023 21:43

Not good. Really not a good idea.
