Pregnant again after multiple miscarriages

Hello,

Looking to see if anyone is in the same position, pregnant again (4 weeks) after five early losses (pre 7 weeks) in the last fifteen months.

We want this baby so much but hopes aren’t high and the prospect of losing again during the Christmas period - for some reason it just feels worse.

id love to hear from anyone in the same position or alternatively if you have some good news stories after recurrent loss I’d love to hear xx

So sorry OP. Since May 2022 till January 2023, I had a blighted ovum, 2 chemicals and a pregnancy that just didn't evolve. In March/April I became pregnant again and today I should be 35w, waiting for our baby girl to come next month. Still really stressed, but I hope this time the miracle will be complete and we will have our precious healthy and happy little girl.

The difference was this time I got treatment from the first positive test. Baby aspirin, progesterone and some medication with steroids and sth people take after transplants, as the assumption was my body was rejecting the baby because of the half from the father.

Had many tests done before and nothing showed as being wrong.

Did you undergo any investigations?

Fingers crossed. Praying was something that helped me in the process. While checking the medical solutions, of course.

Hoping4amiracle · 18/11/2023 10:18

Hello,

thanks both.

@BabyHope1 congratulations how lovely - 35 weeks is so close to the finish line. I hope baby girl arrives safe and well, I can’t imagine the joy you will feel holding her for the first time.

Your journey sounds so similar to mine. As our losses were early we were rejected for further investigations on the NHS, apparently you need to lose three viable pregnancies. However, we stumped up the cash to go private and had everyrhing tested, nothing obvious except slightly sub par progesterone levels common with PCOS and we went on to a protocol of progesterone and aspirin from three days post ovulation. Had a chemical pregnancy and a mmc on this protocol so a bit concerned about its impact. It’s only for five cycles though then back to the specialist (January) so really interested in what you said about steroids as it just feels like there is an incompatibility issue - we can’t get off the starting block.

The first few weeks are just the worse - trying not to be too doom and gloom but also not wanting to get hopes up. Xx

Fingers crossed this time it will work fine for you. I'm not in the UK, so the treatment I got may not be the same there. I took it based on prescription, you cannot buy it otherwise. Maybe try consulting a fertility clinic, if available.

Hope you will get back with good news. 🤗

Hoping4amiracle · 19/11/2023 22:50

Thanks, I will keep this post updated.

Pregnancy symptoms are starting to subside - boobs not as sore, not as tired, not had much cramping so I think it’s going the same way as the others unfortunately. We will be back talking to the consultant if/when this passes so will see what he recommends next.

thank you and I hope your baby girl is delivered safe and well! X

I had 1 MMC at 11 weeks and 3 days (baby died at 8 weeks), then 2 early miscarriages. Nothing showed up on NHS tests and I stopped getting pregnant. A year later after tests at 2 private clinics I had hormone support post ovulation which resulted in a pregnancy and progesterone and steroid treatments until the end of the first trimester (steroid) and second trimester (progesterone) and managed to carry out baby to 34 weeks. My symptoms came and went in that first trimester and the whole thing was terrifying and torturous. I hope that your symptoms come back and all is well. Either way I feel for you. Each day is a mountain to climb. Best of luck.

Mangotango39 · 20/11/2023 06:44

Hello Op
understand you must be so so worried!

I had x2 MC (blighted ovum found at scan and one at a day before 12week mark)
This pregnancy I went for acupuncture at a fertility specialised place. No idea if it actually made a difference but it gave me comfort and helped calm my mind that was constantly running wild!!

Now 28 weeks and baby looking good - moving like crazy!!!
I really hope and pray this is your time xx

MsFrog · 20/11/2023 07:06

Hi OP. I had 5 miscarriages before I had DS1, so I know exactly how you feel. There's no way through it but through it - I don't remember anything feeling reassuring for me, my anxiety was just so high. I can say it's normal for pregnancy symptoms to go up and down, but I know it probably won't make you feel any better. The awful rollercoaster between being sure it'll end and hope creeping in, but the hope is almost too hard to bear and so you tell yourself not to get excited... My heart goes out to you, it's incredibly difficult.

My consultant told me that the vast majority of people will go on to have a baby eventually. I used to think of that when I was struggling.

Take care, wishing you all the luck in the world for this pregnancy x

RedHelenB · 20/11/2023 07:16

4 weeks is very early to be getting symptoms. And when I had my mc ( and I didn't want to hear it at the time) I was told how common it is. If all yours were earlier than 7 weeks it's likely that without testing you'd have just thought late/missed period. Everything crossed that you have a smooth pregnancy this time.

Hoping4amiracle · 20/11/2023 09:44

Thanks all for your reassurance 😊

@MsFrog our consultant said similar, that persistence is key but I’m 37 so I’d does play on my mind that I might run out of time.

@Mangotango39 prior to first pregnancy we had been trying to conceive for three years when I turned to acupuncture for fertility and now I’m pregnant every few months. Problem is that here it’s £95 a week for accupuncture so really hard to sustain. How far into your first trimester did you start acupuncture if you don’t mind me asking?

@RedHelenB you are right, it’s very early and from everything I’ve read they should go up and down. But still you drive yourself mad at this stage.

@Brenna24 can I ask what hormone support you got? I have PCOS and have been thinking about going to an endocrinologist.

thanks ladies and it’s so reassuring to hear so many got their perfect little miracles after going through the hardship of recurrent miscarriage ❤

Mangotango39 · 20/11/2023 10:21

@Hoping4amiracle I believe it was between 5/6 l started and went about 5 times until 12 weeks.
It can definitely be pricey but wow that is almost double what I paid :/

Could you ask the Dr for progesterone? I see that recommended a lot on here x

Hoping4amiracle · 20/11/2023 10:34

@Mangotango39 ive sent out a few requests to other clinics in the area to see what costs they come back with - in the grand scheme of things if it helps it’s worth every penny. I think as well it helps you feel a bit less helpless - like you are being proactive which I think helps.

I’ve been on progesterone from three days post ovulation for the last five cycles, under the care of the Coventry miscarriage clinic and due to review the protocol next cycle. I’m also on 75mg aspirin.

Brenna24 · 23/11/2023 21:14

The first few cycles we tried it I had progesterone from ovulation to the day my period was due then I tested and stopped die to negative tests. The cycle I got pregnant I had HCG injections at days 3, 5 and 7 after ovulation, then started progesterone from the positive test after my period was due.

elm26 · 23/11/2023 21:29

Hi OP

Congratulations and I'm so sorry for your losses 💛

I had 13 miscarriages, all unexplained, genetics testing showed nothing wrong, I had blood thinning injections, high dose folic acid, aspirin, progesterone etc. nothing seemed to work.

I then fell pregnant for a 14th time and baby stuck around, I now have a beautiful 6 month DD.

I still don't have any answers but wanted to share my story of hope. Take one day at a time.

Wishing you all the best, keep us updated. Lots of love x

Hoping4amiracle · 24/11/2023 07:27

Thank you both!

@Brenna24 what is a HCG injection? Is it to help with egg quality at all as I’m concerned that’s my issue - everything else has been tested.

@elm26 13 miscarriages, how awful - how did you and your partner cope mentally as that must have been traumatic? I’m so glad you had your miracle baby!

I started spotting yesterday, very very light and pink, only on wiping and it seems to have stopped through the night. I’ve read spotting can go either way but it’s always been a first sign of impending miscarriage for me so it’s hard not to read too much into it.

Update - scan is booked for 6th December. So it’s a waiting game now, I need to find some way of occupying myself so I don’t go crazy!

OP posts:
Hoping4amiracle · 27/11/2023 12:06

Update … despite saying I wouldn’t use the clear blue weeks indicator I did and despite being roughly 5.3 days it’s still showing as 2-3 weeks.

i had this with miscarriage number three so pretty sure this will be a 6th loss.

Feeling utterly lost and heartbroken, I feel like a failure 😞

The 3 weeks + on clear blue is notoriously unreliable based on posts/comments on here

BabyHope1 · 27/11/2023 16:34

So sorry OP. I know how you feel. Please seek help, find a good dr/fertility clinic to get the proper advice. You need to start taking some medication as soon as you've got the positive. It can totally happen for you but you need to make a change. Thinking of you!

UnhappyCrumpet · 27/11/2023 16:38

Oh OP. I really hope you’re wrong x

NancyMaloni · 27/11/2023 16:42

2mcs before a healthy DS and I know many many people who had 2 and more and all had happy outcomes in the end.
They say 1 in 4 women experience it but in my antenatal class group it was 3 in 4 who shared the same experience. It’s a shame that we suffer in silence.

good luck xx

NancyMaloni · 27/11/2023 16:44

oh and dates are frequently wrong!
only a scan call tell, after 7 weeks or so.

WinedropsOnMoses · 27/11/2023 16:55

Oh OP...I hope that it's just a funny test result. No guarantees...I've always been off with dates and had more than my unfair share of confusing tests.

Try to stay calm and relax until you know more.xx

The clear blue weeks tests are from conception, not from lmp, so 2-3 weeks is actually 4-5 weeks. That’s not hugely different from your 5.3 weeks, so even a day later for implantation could affect that. I’d say it wouldn’t be unusual for you not to have a 3+ at the moment with your dates. I really hope all goes well for you this time.

Hoping4amiracle · 27/11/2023 17:10

Hey,

@BabyHope1 you are so right about being proactive - my OH and I have spent thousands on private tests … everything from DNA fragmentation, Karyotyping, NK cells, full blood work, Hycosy … progesterone levels are low which isn’t a shock as I have PCOS but supplemented with progesterone from three days post ovulation for three of the miscarriages now. I’m also on Metformin and every supplement in the book ‘it starts with the egg’. The only thing the doctors throw at me is weight but I work out four times a week with a trainer - it just gets so exhausting to put so much into it and get the same result time and time again.

I’d give anything to be wrong next week xx
