Pregnant again after multiple miscarriages

Hoping4amiracle · 17/11/2023 13:57

Hello,

Looking to see if anyone is in the same position, pregnant again (4 weeks) after five early losses (pre 7 weeks) in the last fifteen months.

We want this baby so much but hopes aren’t high and the prospect of losing again during the Christmas period - for some reason it just feels worse.

id love to hear from anyone in the same position or alternatively if you have some good news stories after recurrent loss I’d love to hear xx

I know it's heartbreaking. We also spent money on lots of tests and each time they came back ok a part of me was disappointed because I still had a problem with no solution. For us, I think it appears to be an immunity issue, my immunity system was rejecting the father's half and not letting the fetus develop. I think it is just a matter of finding the right treatment. Maybe is sth you could explore as well with your Dr? In the beginning of the year I was heartbroken because of yet another loss and now we are hopeful things will go well and we will hold our healthy little girl in a few weeks. During the pregnancy I've been so anxious... I still am... thinking sth could go wrong or that the treatment could have negative effects. I've been praying a lot and this helped me with the anxiety.

Please don't give up. There is a solution. The Dr that prescription me my treatment told me about a lady with something like 15+ losses and she was then 5months pregnant. I wish with all my heart to see in the near future a post of yours sharing the good news.

Hoping4amiracle · 27/11/2023 19:25

Thank you for your kind words ladies!

@BabyHope1 can I ask what test determined it was an immunity issue? Or was it process of elimination? What meds were you put on for that - we have an appointment with the consultant in a couple of weeks and I want him to be more aggressive with treatment.

I hope you have a safe delivery Babyhope, I will say a prayer for you also ! Xx

Elimination. As far as they told us, there is no way to diagnose this kind of immunity issues. Another dr I went to, suggested to keep trying for another year and if nothing happens, to go for ivf.

Then the gynecologist that saw me thtough the miscarriages gave the treatment I was telling you about, based on an opinion of a fertility clinic. I'm in Romania so I don't know what is the name of this medication in UK, but I was prescribed (other than high dose of folic acid, progesterone and baby aspirin) prograf (usually prescribed after transplants to block rejection by the body) and medrol ( which are some kind of steroids). Didn't find much about it on the internet, but scans so far showed no issues and we are hopeful everything will be ok and our baby will be healthy and not affected in any way by it.

Thanks for praying for us, especially in these painful moments. Really appreciate it.

Hope you get to the best solution with your doctor 🤗

Hi. Sorry for the wait. I don't log on all that often. HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and it is the hormone produced by the pregnancy which causes your body to produce more progesterone and oestrogen than normal. The thinking in my case was that, although the levels of those two hormones I was producing were fine, my body wasn't responding well to them (due to age, previous miscarriages etc.). By increasing the levels of both hormones post ovulation I was more likely to hold on to a pregnancy. Then I had progesterone alone during the pregnancy as oestrogen is less important then.

Hello,

I want to keep this thread up to date as I know how much I trawl through Mumsnet threads looking for reassurance when I’m panicking and full of dread.

I had an early scan this morning and measured bang on date wise and there was a heartbeat. The anxiety hasn’t gone away but for now it’s a small win. Praying all is well when we are rescanned in two weeks xx

Amazing news! One step at a time! X

SnookyPook · 07/12/2023 00:03

@Hoping4amiracle so happy to read your update! I'm currently 5+3 with a completely unplanned pregnancy - had put TTC on hold until after new year while I awaited fertility appointment coming through. This year I've had:

MMC in April at 11+4
CP in Sept
MC/query ectopic at 7wks at Halloween

After the recent one, I needed a break for my mental health... Wasn't tracking etc. Must have ovulated later than usual and Bam! I've been in a state of shock so far but the anxiety has just hit... I think because I've started to believe it and hope. Got a scan booked at hospital on 21st Dec (should be 7+3).. so nervous. Trying to take one day at a time but doesn't the time drag?!

I really hope these are our rainbow babies!! 🙏🏼🌈💕

Hoping4amiracle · 07/12/2023 05:38

Thank you @elm26

Congratulations @SnookyPook , all fingers and toes crossed for scan on 21st December. How have you been keeping? Have your symptoms hit yet?

Time is majorly dragging but I’ve not had any cramping or bleeding in two weeks now so every day without it is a blessing. Although my biggest fear is a MMC!

Everything crossed for you op. I'm sitting here feeding our rainbow baby after 4 miscarriages, so sorry you've already had so many more than that but just wanted to say a good news story till send positive vibes.

Hoping4amiracle · 07/12/2023 11:47

Thank you @LovesFood1987 - so lovely to hear you had a beautiful rainbow baby after so much heartache ❤

SnookyPook · 07/12/2023 11:53

@Hoping4amiracle thank you 💕 no mega symptoms yet tbh. Been a bit more hungry and tired but nothing major. I think it was more from 6 weeks with my DS so hopefully doesn't mean anything bad!

BabyHope1 · 07/12/2023 15:45

Omg OP, I am so so happy for you. I admit I wasn't very confident things will go well, but this is such a great news. Praying for you and your baby!

Hoping4amiracle · 07/12/2023 19:23

hey,

@SnookyPook Ive only really started to get symptoms at 6w 5d. I have terrible rhinitis, peeing lots and my boobs while they hurt on and off when they hurt they really hurt. No sickness which I’m a little worried about but the midwife said not to worry about symptoms as much.

@BabyHope1 I was gobsmacked as well - took me a while to react. I am a bit scared about the next scan but just praying. How are you keeping?

OP posts:
ThomasinaLivesHere · 07/12/2023 19:45

Good news about the scan, glad it’s looking positive! Best wishes with your next scan.

BabyHope1 · 07/12/2023 22:33

You'll just have to take each step at a time. I wish you with all my heart everything goes well!!

I hope we are well. I'll have another scan next week at almost 39 weeks to see if natural birth is possible and approaching. I'm a bit nervous, but the most important thing is to see her healthy.

SnookyPook · 17/01/2024 18:19

@Hoping4amiracle how is it going? I've just had a 3rd scan today with a now wriggling 10wk old little one. Still nervous but beginning to have a bit more hope 🙏🏼🌈 I've remained pretty symptomless throughout! X

Hoping4amiracle · 19/01/2024 15:22

Hello @SnookyPook - it’s amazing when you see them wriggling about isn’t it? So surreal.

We had our dating scan yesterday (13 weeks) baby is doing well - it was all curled up like it was having a nice wee snooze…I had to exercise to get the baby to move so they could take their measurements and I swear I could see a little frown lol.

We had our screening tests yesterday and even though the Nuchal translucency was only 1.7 mm I’m still worried about coming back high risk as I’m 37. Trying to put it to the back of my mind.

Are you going for the screening tests? X

OP posts:
SnookyPook · 19/01/2024 15:44

@Hoping4amiracle ah that's wonderful! Haha love the idea of little grumpy baby like "why are you jiggling me about Mum?!"

That nuchal translucency sounds great! I understand your concerns - I just turned 38 last month so very conscious of it all. Will have the regular screening etc but not going for NIPT (unless offered through NHS) as too expensive. Although the risk is higher I think the vast majority of babies are still born without any health issues 🙏🏼

Hoping4amiracle · 19/01/2024 16:07

Haha yea it’s like you get a sense of their little personalities even at this early stage.

We didn’t go for NIPT either so will see if it’s offered by NHS. I read that if your Nuchal translucency is less than 3mm then the risk of abnormality is 7% - that’s without any bloods done. The sonographer said they didn’t take nasal bone into consideration now but that she could see it and the tip which is apparently another good marker.

Theres a little glimpse of a nub in the scan photo so family have little bet on the go - it’s nice and starting to feel real.

Keep in the loop with how you are getting on and good luck at your next scan which can’t be far away now 😊 xx

@Hoping4amiracle Hi, so lovely to hear about your good news after all your losses! I just wondered if you did anything differently for this pregnancy? I have had one MC and one MMC since last November and I really want to do everything I can to try for different outcome next pregnancy

Hoping4amiracle · 16/05/2024 10:13

Hi @Sunshine8011 , so sorry to hear of your losses. It’s truly devastating.

After investigations we were put on a course of asprin and progesterone supplementation, although I did read the book ‘it starts with an egg’ and followed the recurrent miscarriage protocol. It wasn’t 100% effective, my baby had IUGR caused by the placenta not growing - placenta was very small and blood flow cut out around 28 weeks and my little boy had to be delivered. That was two weeks ago and baby is doing well in the NICU but he was only 750 grams at birth. He is otherwise perfect and we are very in love with him.

The placenta is away for investigation now and I’m hoping it flags something that might explain what has been going on all this time. If it does I will reply to this post x

ThomasinaLivesHere · 16/05/2024 15:53

Congratulations! That you for updating. All the best!

SnookyPook · 16/05/2024 16:14

@Hoping4amiracle aw congratulations on the arrival of your little one! So glad he is out safely and doing well in NICU. Your post is quite timely - I have another growth scan tomorrow as my little one has been measuring small (was 3rd centile at 24wks). I actually had a bad dream last night that they told me at the scan I had to deliver there and then (I'll be 28wks on Monday!) so it's reassuring that you basically had a real life version of this and all is ok! Hope you both continue going from strength to strength and that you're able to get him home soon 💗

Hoping4amiracle · 16/05/2024 19:34

@SnookyPook how are your dopplers? I went into reverse flow at 27 weeks but after steroids managed to hold on a few extra days.

For me, the steroids made a massive difference. There is another baby in the NICU born days before my little one, really similar gestation and weight but didn’t get the steroids as he was an emergency delivery. He is still ventilated whereas my little boy was never on a ventilator, is off c-Papp and is being weaned off high flow. It made a big difference from a respiratory perspective. So if you do find yourself in the position of delivering earlier than 34 weeks insist on them. If you have any questions that I can help with please feel free to message. Good luck xx
