Hi there
At the grand old age of 39 I am now just over 10 wks pg with my first following two previous miscarriages over the last 3 years. Just wondering if there are any other similar mums to be out there looking to share the journey and feelings/experiences?
Look forward to hearing from you xx

21+3 weeks pregnant at 40 after a late miscarriage it's only taken me 15 yers an giving up the thought of having children.

Scared excited and everything inbetween

Got my 20 week scan tomorrow and absolutely petrified although I have felt this little one move for weeks

Seabright · 10/03/2008 15:55

7ish weeks pregnant and 37 with a 60 year old DP!

Although I am excited, I am rather dreading telling people as I am sure we will get some bad reactions due to our ages.

babycakes26 · 10/03/2008 16:00

oooh Kaz that's such fab news - everything crossed for you for tomorrow X I'm scared excited and everything in between too!

I have a scan on Wednesday which will be 10.6 wks - I am a nervous wreck like you! After the mcs I just keep thinking 'what if there's nobody in there?' but I have had bleeding in my 2 previous mcs and so far so good no bleeding this time. I mc'd at 12 and 13 wks prevously so don't feel out of the woods yet!

You sound like you are doing really well though let me know how you get on tomorrow if you get chance. I had an early scan at 6.5wks (my DH had to drag me to the hospital) and all seemed well - we saw healthy yolk, sac and heartbeat so hopeful for better news this time - take care x

Hi Seabright - nice to hear from you - how are you feeling? Don't spend too much time worrying about what people will think yet as it isn't good for you or your bubs I can understand your concern though but if you are happy about the pgy then stay postive x

Hi babycakes26. I am 37yo first time Mum and am 38+1 with a 50 yo DP.

Congratulations on your preganancies everyone

Seabright - FWIW, DP was telling me that when going to his kids school (from 1st marriage) at 50 he was one of the younger Dads!
As for age difference, if people cant be happy for you, sod 'em! All that matters is that baba is loved by its parents.
I'm just glad I finally met someone who I judged would be a good Dad tbh. I'm bloody lucky too - his kids (19, 20 and 8) have accepted me and are looking forward to their new little sister.
Also feel very fortunate to have got pg straight away.

BearMama · 10/03/2008 16:06

Or pregnancies rather

babycakes26 · 10/03/2008 16:09

Hi BearMama - congratulations you - I am soooo jealous with you being almost ready to meet your baba! Have you had a good pregnancy so far? x

Hi all,

37 and 16+2 after 2 previous m/c last year, both early on so I'm hoping we are out of the woods this time.

Currently slightly pissed as I've just come back from my 16 week midwife appointment where they do exactly nothing! I asked if we could listen to the Hearbeat and was told not yet, they don't do bloods, they don't do urine, they don't do blood pressure and they never even weighed me. I could tell she wasn't happy when I asked what the point of the appointment was and I left upset as all I wanted was reassurance that everything is going fine and evidently this was not forthcoming!

Anyway sorry to open on a rant, feel slightly better now.

Kaz & babycakes - good luck for your scans, I hope all is going swimmingly.

Seabreeze - To hell with what other people think it's only you and your DP's opinions that matter.

Kaz1967 · 10/03/2008 16:23

Seabright A dear friend of mine has similar age difference (actually think he was older) as long as you are happy what does it matter, enjoy it, fro the way he was you will be really well looked after, it was his 4th child (2nd relationship) and he absolutely adored every minute he spent with their daughter. The majority of people were really supportive and those who were no well there loss. Sadly he died suddenly but she would not change a think 6 years on she is married to his best friend (who is closer to her age by alot) and really happy,

babycakes26 I felt very similarly until I passed the stage I lost Olga (18+4) not sre I will feel totally confident until I am holding this little one in my arms.

Merryoncemore no wonder you are upset what are midwifery appointments for if the do not do all that They cetainly did at my 15 week appointment even managed to find the little horror eventually as they played hide and seek with the midwife, Thankfully for me I was already feeling movement but it was scary.he more I hear about te experiences other people have with midwives the more lucky I feel wit mine

babycakes26 · 10/03/2008 16:40

Hi Merry

feel free to rant - sounds a bit pointless!!! You should at least have had BP, urine and bloods?? How frustrating! When is your next appt?

Merryoncemore · 10/03/2008 16:49

I have my 20 week scan at the start of April which is my next appointment with anyone and I get to see the midwives again at 25 weeks. I know I'm being unreasonable but after 2 previous m/c's just hearing the heartbeat might have led to a full nights sleep. Heyho, I'm sure they have their reasons.

I keep feeling something which I think is movement, especially at night when I'm lying flat but as it's my first I'm just not sure whether it's jus wishful thinking

Seabright · 10/03/2008 16:49

Thanks everyone for the supportive messages! He is very young at heart, he has very young ideas and attitudes compared to most of his contemporaries and I had to be "old" at quite a young age due to various reasons, so there doesn't feel much of a gap between us.

Except when it comes to TV and music from our youths that is!

Merryoncemore · 10/03/2008 16:52

Hell Seabright, I have the TV music conversation with my DH and he's only 5 years younger than me. Though sometimes I think he just play's it up to make me feel ancient , I mean how can he not have seen Moon Cat?

lou222 · 10/03/2008 16:52

hi all
i'm first time mum 41- !! aargh but don't look it or feel it !
i'm 12 weeks and told loads of people and everyone really positive except the father but that's another story!!
babycakes i had 6 week scan and saw heartbeat and have since heard that if you see heartbeat you have 98% chance of successful pregnancy
but i know what you mean about not being sure if everythings alright
i've lost a stone and was worried my baby wasnt growing but everything fine at my 12 weeks scan and boy had he/she grown loads!!
good luck everyone and here's to older mums (think angelina jolie, halle berry!!) we're as good as them!!

Kaz1967 · 10/03/2008 16:58

Merry no I don't think you are being unreasonable I would say that particularly as a slightly older Mum who has had previous miscarriages you need the reassurance. Quite apart from which there is a slightly higher risk of problems and BP, and urine tests are fairly basic when it comes to picking these up early and treating them

Kaz1967 · 10/03/2008 17:01

lou222 it's funny how people react it's my parents who are negative so much so there was a point I refused to talk to Mum she was just bringing me down so much LOL

Merryoncemore · 10/03/2008 17:03

Never mind Kaz, I managed to stop myself reaching for the phone number of my local private scan clinic and have talked myself down. Having had 2 private scans already a 3rd one would either push my DH over the edge or lead to me giving birth to a small child with a Naomi Campbell complex .

They are just working within their guidelines and as we all know it's a lottery out there.

Lou at the weight loss, I look like a small house and congrat's on the pregnancy.

finallypregnant · 10/03/2008 18:59

Worthog · 10/03/2008 19:35

Hi All,
36 and 14 weeks - first pregnancy.

Now under Consultant care at Hospital after they initially lost my notes and then booked me into the 'neurotic first timers clinic'.

Good luck to everyone with the scans.

soph28 · 10/03/2008 19:49

Hello, I'm not in this situation but a good friend is (ttc but not pg )

Kaz, please don't think I'm being nosy but what did you go through in those 15yrs i.e. what probs did you have and how did you conceive in the end?

You don't have to answer, I know it's personal. It's just my friend is in her early 40s and has been ttc for about 8yrs. She has had 1 very early mc (about 2-3wks) and recently 1 failed IVF. I feel for her so much and just want some hope?

BearMama · 10/03/2008 20:15

Hi babycakes, yes my pg has been fine, pretty textbook really...morning sickness at first, then gradual growth till I am just enormous! Saw MW today and told that Bean's head is well down but that she might be back-to-back, so its time to scrub some floors, but not before I do some obligatory perineal massage!

So you are just over ten weeks? How is that going? X

lou222 · 10/03/2008 20:47

merryoncemore
i know i can't believe the weight loss
everyone keeps asking me how i've done it and as i've not told everyone yet i sort of mumble oh just cut out chocolate and alcohol
which is true but only cos i just can't bear chocolate at the moment
anyway i've read that even if you lose weight in the first trimester you soon catch up
i'll let you know!
at least i've stopped feeling really sick but still no appetite!

karney · 10/03/2008 23:09

17wks pg today and 39yrs old with no children. 3 previous m/cs over the last 2 yrs. Dp and I are so delighted to be this far. Got a routine scan this friday but still get really nervous before them and this will be the 6th scan during this pg. The hospital have been great and v supportive. Had a nuchal test for downs and I was a low risk just waiting for results for spina bifida bloods now.. phew it,s quite a journey!
And Yes, I think scared and excited just about cover it for me too. Good luck to all, xxxx
