Hi there
At the grand old age of 39 I am now just over 10 wks pg with my first following two previous miscarriages over the last 3 years. Just wondering if there are any other similar mums to be out there looking to share the journey and feelings/experiences?
Look forward to hearing from you xx

splodgesmum I have never slept well but am much better since being pregnant. Now it is Bumps fault they wake up at about 4am and jumps on my bladder then demands food

poppy34 · 14/03/2008 17:41

hiya - I'm 35 and 26 weeks pregnant. Have had 2 m/c and 1 tx due to abnormalities.

Weight gain so far is about 8kg - most of it in the last 10 weeks.

Know of several older first timers - stepsister had twins at 35, someone at work had her first at 41 and second at 43 so I know there is hope.

good luck to everyone else

babycakes26 · 14/03/2008 20:01

Hi all
hope you are all doing Ok and looking forward to a relaxing weekend - phew I love Fridays!!!

Trespass - are you worried about your scan results? Make sure you take it easy - how far are you now?

Welcome Potxola, EEDC and Poppy

Potxola - I hope you are doing Ok - I can empathise with how you feel - your mind won't rest until after you have the CSV results - fingers crossed - keep your chin up! I have my NT a week next Thursday and already starting to think about this - I have never got to the stage to have one before (due to mcs) so all new for me! Any information or advice welcomed!

BC x

Hi girls.
babycakes26 thanks for your thoughts.
Keep positive. After having mcs is difficult to have hope, but now you are very pregnant it is a must to believe that that everything is going fine.
I will be thinking of you too.

EEC · 15/03/2008 10:18

I too had MC before this one, and it is much harder not to worry, but it sounds like things are good this time round for us all!

7monthsplus · 15/03/2008 15:02

HI, I am 38 pregnant 37 weeks today. with a girl. this will be my one and only baby and I am pleased I am this age. I will cope better I never ever felt mature enough before.
nice to know there are other "older" mums to be out there too.

solo · 17/03/2008 18:44

Lou222,
I don't want to put a dampener on your weightloss, but I lost a stone in a very short time when I was about 10 wks pg. I knew it couldn't be right(for me), plus I had a few other symptoms. So I went to GP, and it turned out I had Hyperthyroidism, which needs immediate treatment. If you haven't done so already, go get checked out-just to make sure.

Kaz1967 · 20/03/2008 00:04

Oh lord I am falling to bits apparently I have divarication of my abdominal muscles which is why my back is worse and I am getting quite so much ligament pain so I now have a really sexy bit of tubigrip to where during the say. What with that and the reflux (which is being made worse by this tubigrip) I think I am falling to bits

babycakes26 · 20/03/2008 09:41

Oh Kaz you poor love - sure you will feel better soon if you rest up {hugs}

I have my nuchal scan tonight (got confused thought it was next week aaargh). Decided not to have blood test after a lot of contemplation. Now getting nervous that all is still well following my scan last week - looking foreard to seeing my bubs again on screen though!

How's everyone else doing? I have had chronic nausea since last Friday which has wiped me out - not been able to work or rest particulalry well! A bit better today though. It took me a little by surprise as this is the worst I have felt so far in this pregnancy - anyone else suffering with nausea at this stage (around 12 weeks)?

OP posts:
EEC · 20/03/2008 14:02

I suffered terribly with nausea around 12 weeks. In fact it seemed to get worse after the 1st trimester! At about 16 weeks felt truly awful, but then miraculously disappeared around 18 weeks, and is now very very occasional. Hope yours improves soon babycakes. Good luck with scan.

Blocky · 20/03/2008 14:33

I had ds2 at 39, three friends who were all pg at the same as me were 40, 41 and 45.

Remember all the worry re bloods tests etc - I had nuchal scan but chose not to have any of the others (only the standard ones you have). Once I knew everything was as it should be I relaxed (a bit!)
My 45yr old friend didn't discover she was pregnant till 22 weeks - so missed out on much of the early testing - but as this was a miracle baby (had unsuccessful IVF at 40) was over the moon anyway and they just closely monitored her throughout the rest of her (v straightforward) pg.

I had rotten nausea until about 16 weeks, PSD then developed gestational diabetes, but apart from that all plain sailing!

Just want to wish everyone on here the very best of luck. Older mums rock.

Kaz1967 · 20/03/2008 18:40

I had nausea up to about 15 weeks the one way I could deal with it was eat at least every 2 hours during the day just before I went to bed and then I had to eat between 4-6am or I felt sick for the rest of the day. Now Bump wakes me up at 4am by jumping on my bladder sending me to the loo then demanding I eat

lou222 · 20/03/2008 19:40

hi solo thanks for the advice i'll look that up on the internet

i did mention to my doctor while i was there for something else
she just asked me if i wanted any tablets and i said no!
i've stopped losing weight now though as i don't feel as sick as i did - still not much of an appetite though.

i'm 14 weeks on monday and still not seen the midwife apart from at 6 weeks - i've rung twice and they said they were ringing 2/3 weeks ago to make an appointment !!

am i being irresponsible by not having an nt scan?
i'm telling myself ignorance is bliss and i'm worried that if my results are a bit iffy i'll just worry through the whole pregnancy which i don't want to do.

Kaz1967 · 20/03/2008 20:12

lou222 I have not had one either don't believe I am irresponsible. If you had one and it showed there was a likely hood of your baby having downs what would you do? It maybe you just want to know an be prepared well fine that is a good reason for having one. I knew before I found out I was pregnant I would love this child no matter what. I have not had the triple blood test, there is no way I would risk an amnio I have waited 15 years for this no way I want to risk a miscarriage and no way I would even consider an abortion. But that is my choice only you can know how you feel and would cope.

lou222 · 20/03/2008 20:24

hi kaz
thanks for that - it's reassuring.
this is my one and only chance at having a baby (unfortunately as i would love more but am just so so lucky to be pregnant that i won't start getting greedy!)
like you i won't risk a miscarriage and would never have an abortion so i'll stick with my ignorance is bliss attitude!

Kaz1967 · 20/03/2008 20:30

lou222 and surprises are nice after all none of us are perfect why should we expect a baby to be? one of my internet friends has a beautiful now teenaged daughter with downs and she is adorable bright and clever, at a normal comp with a little support and doing really well including being put forward to doing several GCSE's and expecting reasonable grades (above C). She wants to be a nursery nurse and I think she will make a fab one. Best of all she is the most fantastic roll model for what those with downs can do

babycakes26 · 20/03/2008 20:45

Hi all
Just posted on another thread - had my NT scan tonight and unfortunately I am high risk (1:39). Not the best news but I am determined to stay positive - this is a very much longed for and loved baby and will be a very special part of our lives whatever happens. I am now done with screening!!!

Hope you are all well BC x

OP posts:
EEC · 21/03/2008 08:21

Sorry to hear that BC. Still a much much higher chance of non downs, although you sound very strong and able to cope with whatever comes.

We will all have suprises in one way or another as noone knows what their baby will be like. I can't wait to find out!

Kaz1967 · 23/03/2008 11:10

Hello everyone how are things? I hope everyone i enjoying Easter

Well this sexy support is making Bump really quiet not doing as much in the way of somersaults but I am starting to get some very definite kicks rather than just movements Sometimes it feels like they are throwing a real wobbly and stamping their little foot as if they are throwing a tantrum because they are fed up of this sexy support.

Oh and after a long discussion last week I have decided to make a really big move up north to be nearer my best mate (we are more like sisters). I was intending moving up there for uni anyway in 2 years time and have spoken to the college in Boston and my tutor and looks like it is very feasible. My best mate has actually looked at a flat in the same village she lives in an I am going up there tomorrow and am looking at it on Tuesday

jules43 · 23/03/2008 18:47

Hi there

I will be an older Mum at 43, and having my first baby in June, I am around 27 weeks . Its was a complete shock initially and took a while to get used to the idea but I am so looking forward to it all now.

I had no idea about scanning etc initially and my GP suggested I went for a Nuchal fold scan due to my age, my result was 1 in 39, I deliberated about CVS and Amnio and initially went against it and thought whatever would be. However after 4 weeks I was making my self ill with worry so booked an amnio and the best news was it was all clear and I am having a boy.

This whole pregnancy lark is a whole new world and so many things to be aware of, must be preparing me for whats to come!!

fall08baby · 23/03/2008 19:08

Hi

I'm 38 and 12 weeks pregnant for the first time in my life. I've been feeling great no morning sickness just tired. I have my first ultrasound on Thursday and have spent all day worrying about the possibilities of no heart beat. I´m worried that I feel too good to be pregnant. Maybe just looking for something to worry about!

Kaz1967 · 23/03/2008 21:47

I was the same with this little one as soon as I stopped feeling sick I worried that it had all been in my imagination including the tickley movements I felt still feel like that sometimes. It was a bit of a shock falling pregnant and I still partly believe it has all been a dream.

triplets · 24/03/2008 09:37

I had ivf triplets at 46! They are now 10 and I find it harder now than when they were babies, but they are sooooooooo special!

babycakes26 · 24/03/2008 20:39

Hi everyone
Hope you have all had a restful Easter! I have been in bed most of the time with awful sickness and constant nausea - not much fun :-) Also think my hormones are all over the place at the moment as I can't seem to stop blubbing

Hi Jules - I noticed you had a nuchal result the same as ine last week 1:39. Glad the amnio put your mind at rest - hope you can now enjoy the rest of your pgy.

Kaz that's a bold decision to make about the move but good for you - hope it all works out. What's the sexy support? Is it a belt/bump band?

OP posts:
Kaz1967 · 24/03/2008 20:58

The sexy support is a large piece of tubigrip which goes from under me boobs to below me bum
