I need salt!

I’m 6 weeks and the nausea is kicking in. All I want to eat is salty food. Any one else had this and got any recommendations for food that may quench this need?! I can’t live on salty tortillas!!

Seaweed

Ritz biscuits. Salt and vinegar crisps - particularly discos.

Nepmarthiturn · 02/11/2023 11:57

Pizza covered in capers, olives and anchovies.

Cheese - mature cheddar, pasteurised feta, Parmesan, halloumi, Stilton. Salted popcorn. Salted nuts (all the Christmas nuts are now in the shops). If you can face fizzy water and if you can get hold of it then Badoit.

I feel your pain. I have a savoury tooth at the best of times but it went nuts in pregnancy.

Juicyjuicymango · 02/11/2023 12:10

I ate anchovies straight out of the jar 🫣

newrubylane · 02/11/2023 12:11

Ah I remember this stage. I lived on variations on potatoes for meals, well salted. Ready salted crisps and peanut Tracker bars. It does pass!

SnapdragonToadflax · 02/11/2023 12:14

Beige carbs with gravy. Bag of crisps open near you at all times. It's basically all I ate until well into my second trimester.

SquashPenguin · 02/11/2023 12:19

I was the same around 6 weeks, just all I wanted was crisps and chips. Then it was lemons. Now I’m almost 11 weeks it’s sweet potato fries. I could eat sweet potato fries for breakfast.

Marmite

ApolloandDaphne · 02/11/2023 12:21

All I wanted was Smokey bacon crisps and white bread/cheese sandwiches!

MotherofPearl · 02/11/2023 12:23

Co-op sea-salt and chardonnay wine vinegar crisps.

MotherofPearl · 02/11/2023 12:23

Very crispy streaky bacon.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 02/11/2023 12:27

Pretzels, both the smaller snack kind and the big soft baked ones. The bigger salt crystals pack a lovely punch.

SezP · 02/11/2023 12:33

So much salt. Mini cheddars, toast with cheese and butter, and pho.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 02/11/2023 12:37

Olives
Ritz crackers
Crisps
Cup a soup
Pretzels
Crusty bread with butter

Yes, and in a similar vein pasta puttanesca (tomato, black olives, anchovies, capers). Also carbonara and cacio e pepe.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/11/2023 12:48

Ohh yeah. I have this too. Cheese and crackers, Wotsits, chicken nuggets, chicken soup, buttered jacket potato... This baby loves salt. But then it's also a huge fan of Percy Pigs 😅

EspressoMacchiato · 02/11/2023 12:59

You could try actual salt and save on the horrendous amount of carbs ...

Put a small chunk of rock salt under your tongue and let it dissolve. Have some water when it's gone. Works for afternoon energy slumps and headaches.

SezP · 02/11/2023 13:10

I prefer my salt delivered on a bed of carbs. Helps with the blood sugar against the crushing nausea, too.

The woman is pregnant. She is hardly going to grow a new human being on salt alone. She needs plenty of lovely carby calories.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 02/11/2023 13:40

Chips and curry sauce from chinese
Duck spring rolls hoisin sauce
Sushi (veggie or cooked meat) with soy sauce - you could also make your own onigiri for this option. Seafood and soy sauce for salt!

Mumaway · 02/11/2023 13:45

For DD2 all I ate for the whole pregnancy was S&V crisps. She's fine. I still love them.

Allfourwalls · 02/11/2023 13:46

This was me. I used to have a packet of ready salted crisps in my bag at all times! I would get through 3-4 bags a day. I put salt on all my food - eggs and toast with lots of salt was my favourite!

There's nothing wrong with carbs, especially when you're growing a human. Women need actual food. And salt directly on my tongue would definitely have made me vom when I was pregnant. (I needed it delivered in Quaver form.)

This is me right now!

I have toast and salted butter with extra salt
