I need salt!

I’m 6 weeks and the nausea is kicking in. All I want to eat is salty food. Any one else had this and got any recommendations for food that may quench this need?! I can’t live on salty tortillas!!

So so many baked potatoes with salted butter-there were days where I had a potato for breakfast! And crisps and olives. That was the first trimester. Eat what you can to kill the nausea. Then it became blueberries and apples. still with crisps and olives. Now in the third trimester I can't get enough oranges into me but still crave the crisps and olives. I am hoping this pregnancy will turn me off crisps forever!

Can't go wrong with chips absolutely caked in malt vinegar and salt, either.,

Salted mini pretzels. They have big salt granules on them

MumDaisy1980 · 02/11/2023 21:38

Cheesy loaded fries was my go to!

Oh also, padron peppers.

The recipe says "some sea salt" but this is disingenuous: to be done properly they must be absolutely smothered in the stuff.

I was going to suggest pretzels too, not sure where you can buy them but a lovely big fat doughy chewy one with big fat chunks of salt on them. Best one I ever had was in Berlin with a beer, actually that was my highlight of the whole trip 😂

To be fair OP, most meals taste better caked in salt even when you're not pregnant, IMO. Just get busy with your salt mill. 😊 The only fun thing about pregnancy was being able to eat whatever you want with impunity, and also knowing that whatever weight was put on would just vanish in months afterwards. 😁 Enjoy.

You need a decent, as close to unprocessed as possible sea salt with natural minerals. You could be craving the trace minerals, or craving iodine, or need it for your adrenals. Often what we crave has something our bodies need, especially when pregnant. The salt you get in processed food is often stripped of its mineral content and does little for you.

I add a bit of sea-salt to salt and vinegar or cheese and onion crisps 😋

This might not be helpful to the OP as I don’t know when they will next be available but when Lidl have their German week they sell frozen ready-to-bake soft pretzels. They are absolutely delicious. They come with sachets of salt so you can control how much you put on and it’s a particularly salty variety in chunky crystals.

TheChosenTwo · 03/11/2023 08:33

Omg @DrMarshaFieldstone someone needs to do a psa when these next become available! I’d definitely do a detour to a Lidl to find these.

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 03/11/2023 11:33

@DrMarshaFieldstone these sound incredible!

Sushi Gourmet counter in Sainsbury's. You could have California rolls if you want to avoid raw fish.

Keep an eye on your blood pressure

You've reminded me that my best experience in Berlin was buying one of those huge, doughy, salty pretzels from a cart in a park on an autumn afternoon a few years ago. It was hot and super salty and delicious!

Marks and Spencer cheese pretzels from the bakery. Honestly such a treat!
