I just can’t remember what we need for baby. Seem to have totally forgotten!

Luhou · 25/10/2023 07:48

Do people put long sleeve vests under babygrows? I feel like with DD I always used short sleeved as I imagined two long sleeves would get rucked up. But going to be colder time of year and now questioning myself🙈.

Kalodin · 25/10/2023 08:10

I am with you on this @Luhou ! I would hate it! Gives me the shudders thinking about it. Surely a blanket would be better? Or a jacket. I think we spoke about them on here before, but the Star Wraps that Tuppence and Crumble do are amazing

buckingmad · 25/10/2023 08:13

@Luhou i do and still do with my two year old. I just get my fingers up there and pull the vest sleeve down so they’re not bunched up.

sashastuck · 25/10/2023 08:15

@Kalodin sorry about the experience you’ve been having in hospital - hope you managed to get food. And I hope you’re able to find breakfast too if they don’t offer it, don’t leave it until lunch! Hope all is okay x

@Mummyme87 sorry work was shit but I’m glad you’ve got a week off now, rest as much as you possibly can. I’m definitely struggling mote with work now too but got 7/8 weeks left to get through. Have strategically planned some sick days in Dec so I can spend time with my family.

For whoever asked, I’m working up until 38 weeks.

At my midwife appt on Monday, she said baby was head down and that ball that I thought was his head constantly poking out is his bum 😂 he must wiggle it from side to side throughout the day!

Kalodin · 25/10/2023 08:24

I ventured down to Costa and M&S and have stocked up @sashastuck 😅

On baby positioning! Just in case anyone is worried about not being head down yet, there's still so much room. I've had a few scans since being here (Drs are obsessed with whether baby is head down or not it seems even though they've said they'll want to deliver via csection at this gestation) and baby has been in a different position everytime! Gone from being head down when first admitted, to breech, to transverse and back to head down

LittleAlien24 · 25/10/2023 08:38

@Hummusanddipdip both mine were 51 cm when born. Second was 3390kg, can't exactly remember first ones but it was less. We thinking this one will be tall and heavier than my second one because im about 5'7 and he's 6'2 but wide shouldered and big boned lol plus my injections seem to help them gain weight (didn't do them with first one and she was small).
@FirstT1meMum glad to hear you got your fit to fly but hard to believe it was so hard to get. Im in spain and on my ob visit i told her im going on holidays and need a letter with me just in case. She did it there and then for me me.
@Bims2019 i don't have exact list but i have about 10x newborn /up to 1 months sleepsuits, about 14 newborn /up to 1 months short sleeved vests,
0-3 months clothes i got more than people probably would get but our machine is quite small plus 4 other people in the house so if i can't do laundry or running behind with it at least i have clothes for the baby.
about 35x 0-3 months sleepsuits, about 10x sets (pants + top, pants + jumper, pants +vest+top etc), about 6x long sleeve tops, about 20x short sleeve vests, about 15x long sleeve vests, about 8x jumpers/cardigans, about 6x long pants, about 7x dungarees, 3x pramsuits, 7x sleeping bags, 4x cellular blankets, 2x fleece blankets, 3x warmer blankets, pile of muslin cloths (never used them with previous 2 so will see will i use them now).
Only thing i can't seem to be getting is a 0-3 months winter hat. H&M does 2-4 months but i think that be too big for the first month?!
@Mummyme87 hope you have a nice week off

Hummusanddipdip · 25/10/2023 09:00

@LittleAlien24 alien apparently they agin like half a pound a week from onwards? I'm quite interested to see the difference at 32 weeks to yesterday now.

@Kalodin he went from head down to transverse in the 10 minutes I was being scanned yesterday, they move so fast!!!!

I'm another thats going to 38 weeks, we have an inset day on the 3rd January, so I'm going into school for that, then I'm done.

@Mummyme87 sorry you've had a bad time at work! Hopefully the drive will give you some rest time and although it's a party, being away might allow you a small break too! Hopefully you're feeling less stressed already knowing you've got the week off!

Genuinely don't remember what I need fotlr baby. Friends who have had children in the past year have given me loads of stuff, from tiny (2kg) to 3-6 months, I need to sit down and go through it all! I got as far as the stuff I saved from when ds was a baby and had to stop 🤣

Last appointment of the week, off to see my midwife :)

Lilothblos · 25/10/2023 09:24

Would a January newborn need cardigans? We have 3 in size 0-3 but they look pretty big, not sure whether to get some in 0-1! Clueless first time mum here 😂

Mummyme87 · 25/10/2023 09:29

my last baby was January and didn’t do long sleeve vests under baby grows, just added a cardigan on top.

@Kalodin I would question them on why they would want to deliver by CS at this gestation, even more reason not to when preterm if you started labouring and it was progressing. Obvs don’t want that and doesn’t sound like it’s happening but yeah, but odd. We take all gestations here so deliver a lot of premmies and CS is the last option in most scenarios. Hopefully you don’t have to be there much longer, the food sitch sounds shocking, they should be able to provide you with three meals a day

Luhou · 25/10/2023 09:44

Intersting to hear mixed views on vests!

Maybe we'll try both!

@Lilothblos I find cardigans always a size down, so 0-3 cardigans size lasted until 3-6 size in babygrows. I would deffinetely get some newborn cardis.

Mothercare (sold in boots) are good, next, sainsburys (25% off until Sat)

Jojo bebe mama do some cute sets which are like a two peice set with w babygrow and little jacket. Bit expensive but make a cute coming home outfit.

Mushroo · 25/10/2023 10:12

I find baby clothes really overwhelming!

So far we only have 5 white sleepsuits, 5 short sleeve vests, 3 lots of leggings and then a couple of ‘nicer’ babygros and cardigans.

No blankets or anything yet either.

Think I need to stock up 😂

MrsJ6921 · 25/10/2023 10:18

If you’re after a really cute coming home cardigan and are a neutral/beige mum Next have two knitted cardigans that are embroidered on the back one with ‘hello’ and one with ‘born in 2024’. We have them
both and they’re gorgeous

Kalodin · 25/10/2023 10:38

I think the food situation was because I was on delivery ward and they only had sandwiches, all of which contained dairy @Mummyme87 , just spoken to the hospitality person here on the Antenatal Ward and she's reassured me she will cater for my dairy free needs for lunch and dinner now I'm here. I agree with you on the CS thing, it does have me confused as I thought if labour starts progressing on its own and no sign of fetal distress then why not let it continue? Especially given that at 26 weeks I'll likely need a vertical cut rather than a low segment?

WitcheryDivine · 25/10/2023 10:52

I've been really lucky that people have given us a few bags of their old baby stuff, most of which is absolutely lovely!

If you're short of clothes and open to that IME all you need to do is mention it around any friend/family member/colleague/long lost cousin who's had their last kid recently and you'll have to fight them off if you don't want to be handed bundles of stuff. We'll still need to stock up on basics especially for newborn stage but given how many changes they seem to need and the green credentials of second hand (especially for tinies who grow so fast) I'm really happy to have a lot of non-new stuff.

Is anyone else secretly hoping the baby might come a LITTLE bit early so they can wear a christmas outfit though?? Maybe just me Blush

Luhou · 25/10/2023 11:15

@WitcheryDivine all the Christmas stuff is so cute, although due date for me is 18th Jan, so unlikely!

Mummyme87 · 25/10/2023 11:48

@Kalodin 26weeks you should have enough lower segment for a LSCS, it’s very unusual to do a classical incision. But doing a CS at this gestation would need to be life threatening. Glad you’ve sorted out food.

LittleAlien24 · 25/10/2023 11:56

@Hummusanddipdip im interested to see aswell but more thinking that im already feeling so heavy and can't stand for more than few minutes in one spot that how am i gonna last until January lol
@Mushroo im the opposite and my girls, we love baby clothes. Even tho I've already so much i still can't go to shop without checking out baby section lol
@WitcheryDivine basically all the stuff we have for him is second hand, I've always been all about reuse/recycle etc. Coming home outfit and few first sleepsuits for hospital are new and some clothes as presents that he already got.
Oh Christmas baby outfits are the cutest. I did say few times i wish he'd be here for Christmas but then again don't want him to be too early (im due 13 January)

Just catching up here. @Hummusanddipdip I'm so sorry you've had a terrible week. Hopefully your dog will be okay on pain meds and you'll get plenty more time. Hope your mums results come back okay also.

@Mummyme87 enjoy your week off!

@Kalodin hope you're doing okay and things will get better on the ward

Xx

Mummyme87 · 25/10/2023 12:18

Had my scan this morning. Placenta moved up 4cm so well out of the way. And baby is growing all fine, around 1.2kg at the moment, dopplers all normal 👌🏻 had whooping cough vaccine, muscle was twitching like hell and felt very odd afterwards. Have a feeling it’s going to be sore

Hummusanddipdip · 25/10/2023 12:21

@WitcheryDivine I'm not hoping for it, but I suspect he'll be here between Christmas and New Year. Either spontaneous labour like ds or as they've already told me they'll induce at 37 weeks if he is tracking small, which puts us on boxing day. Can't imagine they'll do that date and will either go for 23/24th or 27th instead?

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 he's a happy /grumpy old man, likes to snuggle and sleep, will have a mad moment running around the livingroom, but for the most part all he does is snuggle and sleep, he hates going for walks, he'll walk out the house, but won't actually go anywhere, just stands on the mat and plants himself if he's on the lead. So his quality of life is already so limited, at this point I just want pain free and comfy?

Mum's good, funnily enough @Kalodin she's at Addenbrookes tomorrow to meet with the neurologist and discuss treatment. Hopeful it can just be cut out.

Oh bless you @LittleAlien24 is it how they're laying? Pushing down to give pressure and to make things achy?

Midwife was happy this morning, heard heartbeat, sounded like an angry person banging on a door 🤣

I've sorted clothes this morning ready for washing, I've got 2 loads of whites/light grey. Everything we have is second hand bar a couple of vest sets and a grow that ds picked when I took him to matalan a couple weeks ago (dinosaurs and animals, very stereotypical 🤣) I have to say, matalan's baby range is really nice at the moment.

suz2285 · 25/10/2023 12:32

I had midwife today too, and still measuring 'big' so another scan next week, this will be my second grown scan.. anyone any experience with babies on the 90-97 percentile? I don't massively think it's accurate myself, my bump isn't huge at all!

Last scan showed him around 85-90 centile, fundals sitting above 97 centile

I had my anti d today and bloods for full blood count and gestational diabetes (which I don't think I have but we'll see in a few days) 🙈😂

Mummyme87 · 25/10/2023 12:59

Both my actual babies were over 97th centile at birth, 4.7lg and 4.5kg. Luckily we don’t do fundal height measurements. Baby currently under 50th centile, however I know by term will be a whopper 😂😂

suz2285 · 25/10/2023 13:09

@Mummyme87 even plotting it on this growth chart it's hard to tell what size baby is as the lines are so close together, he's not 'changed' size but cos both of the measurements have been over the 90% line they want to measure again via scan...

Anyway, see what the scan says next week! It's on Halloween 😂🎃
