Hi all

Just wanted to know if your baby weighed less than 7lbs did you have to buy tiny baby clothes or were they okay in newborn size? If they were wearing newborn size, was it quite a bit bigger/loose?

Thank you in advance :)

DD1 was 6lb 7 and just wore newborn baby grows. I’d already bought them!

And as others have said, Asda was great on sizing.

Mine was 7lbs 2oz.. I was given a couple of tiny baby outfits and they fit him perfectly for a couple of weeks anyway.

Mine was 6lbs and newborn size was pretty big but we made do with that and didn't have anything smaller.

Mine was 6.9lbs and 4.1lbs and born 8wks early so they was in tiny baby it’s only been I would say the last month or so that I’ve been buying newborn but depends where you shop as I found some newborn was to small but 0-3 was a bit big nappy wise the started in size 0 that’s how small they was now they in size 2

One of mine was 5.3lbs and one was 5.5lbs, tiny baby clothes as newborn was far too big for them.

I was shocked at how teeny my 5 pound 12 baby was. She didn’t fit into any of the clothes we had for her , and we had to get family to go to the supermarket for tiny baby clothes.

Mine was 6lb6 and I bought a small amount of "tiny baby" size to tide us through the first three or four weeks. Mainly vests for snug fit, the oversize newborn babygrows were ok if baggy.

My little boy was 6lb 4 and wore tiny baby clothes until he was a month old Smile

Yes he weighed 5lb4oz. We bought tiny <6lb sleepsuits and vests. At first we thought there would be no point but the newborn size (~7lb) was too big that he managed to get his legs up and stuck in the body part because it was too big.

tealsea · 05/10/2023 23:24

Mine was 6lb4 and husband had to do an emergency Boots dash after he was born to get small enough vests/sleep suits and nappies. Think he was in newborn by 3-4 weeks though.

I think it depends more on the length than the weight. My daughter was 7lb 11 and couldn't fit into newborn and went into 0-3 straight away but my nephew weighed the same and fit into tiny baby.

LuluBlakey1 · 05/10/2023 23:43

DS2 was 6lb 11oz and I just put him in newborn- he was our lightest of 3. He was fine .

Superscientist · 06/10/2023 10:33

My daughter was 6lb13 at birth dropping to 6lb8. We had asdas first size which was 6-9lb. It was baggie on her but just about ok. For 6lb8 upwards I would say this is a good size maybe with a small amount of clothing that goes up to 7lb.
For under 6lb8 look for clothing that has a 7lb top weight range or for below that clothes that are ~0.5lb above the expected weight

VimtoLemonade · 06/10/2023 12:31

Perfect thank you all! We have about a month to go now so will be mindful of how many babygros we buy considering the tiny baby stuff will be outgrown within a month probably. Will pop to Asda in a couple of weeks 😀
