Hi all

Just wanted to know if your baby weighed less than 7lbs did you have to buy tiny baby clothes or were they okay in newborn size? If they were wearing newborn size, was it quite a bit bigger/loose?

Thank you in advance :)

5lb12oz and yes. Tiny baby sizes were needed for a few weeks. Boots and primark had good ones at the time.

My DD was 7lb5oz and newborn swamped her too tbh. She always was a size behind at her age until about 4yo

DiscoBeat · 05/10/2023 19:23

Sorry, just realized you said less than 7lb!

Croissantsandpistachio · 05/10/2023 19:25

5lb 10, tiny baby. I wasn't expecting a tiny baby, I'm really tall, so hadn't even got any newborn clothes, had gone all 0-3m. Whoops.

elm26 · 05/10/2023 19:26

My DD was 5lb 15oz and was in tiny baby for about 4 weeks then newborn for a while. Now she's 4 months and her long legs are breaking out of 3-6 month babygrows 😂

MadKittenWoman · 05/10/2023 19:27

DS was 5 lb 9 oz / 2.52 kg (nothing wrong; he was born at 39 weeks but both DF and I are smaller than average). Newborn clothes were massive. We bought some tiny doll-like knitted cardigans from the hospital shop and rolled up his newborn baby grows until we could buy smaller ones. We bought prem disposable nappies until he was big enough to fit the smallest reusable.

YaraRocks · 05/10/2023 19:41

My first was 4lb 2(6 weeks early). Mothercare used to have an Early Baby range which was perfect. She was in those for a few weeks before we moved to tiny baby. She finally got into newborn at around 3/4 months. 😁This was 18 years ago though. My second was 6lb but long so she was fine in newborn size.

VimtoLemonade · 05/10/2023 19:42

Wow i hadn't even thought about nappies being too big!! We have size 1 nappies, I believe from 4lbs so hopefully should be fine

Thank you all for the replies!! That really helps because I wasn't sure how much bigger the newborn size was but going from the replies it seems they can be quite baggy! We will buy a couple of tiny baby sleepsuits/vests and then a pack of newborn too. If he's on the smaller side then will run out and get some more 😀

6lb 5oz and 6lb 11oz and didn't have any tiny baby, just new born which were a bit baggy for a couple of weeks but really didn't matter.

Smaller baby grew out of the newborn quicker as he was much longer.

My last dc as 5lb 8 and absolutely swamped by even the few newborn bits we had so we did buy a few tiny baby clothes until she grew a bit. Was a surprise as my older 3 were all between 7 and 8 lbs and comfortably in newborn for a few weeks. She really was a dinky little thing!

Our 5lb 15oz bubs was fine in size 1 😊

Before I had my twins (as I thought they may come early) I bought 2 tiny little baby gros for 5 pound babies. Then the twins stayed in to 40 weeks (very rare for twins to stay in that long) and were 6 pounds 8 and 7 pounds 8 so the 5 pound baby gros lasted about one week!

inomniaparatis · 05/10/2023 20:05

Mine was 5lbs 2, even tiny baby swamped her for the first month, she was in early baby for a couple of weeks. Now at 15 months she still wears 9-12 months so she's always going to be petite I think!

Yellowlily8 · 05/10/2023 20:07

Mine was 6lb 4 but extremely long, so newborn clothes were too short. Tiny baby clothes would have been way too short. So it all depends on how the weight is spread.
She's now over a year and still very long and slim, so has to wear larger sizes which are baggy but at least long enough

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2023 20:09

DS was 6lb 14oz and was swamped by newborn clothes and DH had to run out and grab some tiny baby stuff.

TwentyTwenty20 · 05/10/2023 20:11

4lber at 37 weeks and he was in tiny premie even though I was full term until 6 weeks then tiny baby clothes for what felt like forever!

JustAMinutePleass · 05/10/2023 20:13

DNs were 3 pounds when born and both too tall for premie and newborn (DN1 was in 0-3 months for a month before 3-6 mths, DN2 was in 0-3 months for 2 months). DS was 7 pounds and in 0-3 months from the beginning. DN3 was 5 pounds, in 0-3 months for a month, 3-6 months for 2, and kept growing like a weed until she was wearing 2-3 (for the length) at 1.

anonimoxyz · 05/10/2023 20:14

First baby 6lbs 13 so pretty much 7lbs! Newborn fit for a few weeks. Second baby 5lbs 13 but v slow to gain weight and newborn swamped her til almost 3 months. It depends on so many things! But imo babies look cute in clothes that are too big

DelilahBucket · 05/10/2023 20:16

DS was 5 1/2lbs. He wore tiny baby clothes but even they were big on him.

UndercoverCop · 05/10/2023 20:17

DS was 7'9 and had to have tiny baby, he was scrawny

DanceMumTaxi · 05/10/2023 20:19

Dd was 6lb 3oz. She did have to have some tiny baby clothes and micro sized nappies for the first couple of weeks, but was fine in newborn after that.

MushroomQueen · 05/10/2023 20:19

I had 5lb and 6lbers tiny baby for a couple of weeks but my 5lber by the next month was huge he gained fast so I wouldn't but too much tiny baby stuff

JuniperAndTonic · 05/10/2023 20:20

My baby was 6lb14, tiny baby fit her best at the beginning but she was in the newborn size after a couple of weeks. I was expecting a big baby so hadn’t even bought any newborn size, only 0-1 and 0-3! Luckily had some hand me downs in tiny baby and newborn and we managed. She didn’t fit into 0-3 until she was 8 weeks!

YukoandHiro · 05/10/2023 20:21

No my first wasn't in newborn for about a month or so. She needed tiny baby for ages

henrysugar12 · 05/10/2023 20:23

My dd was 7lb8oz and newborn stuff swamped her! She was in tiny baby size for quite a while.

BandicootCrash · 05/10/2023 20:23

At 6lb4 mine was fine in newborn clothes, but needed size zero nappies.
