Has anyone had nub theory be wrong?

Just what the title says really. I do believe in nub theory and I know there's science behind it. I know my scans look super boyish, I've had around 30 all boy guesses across different sites. I just have such a feeling I'm having a girl... I know it's more likely to be wrong if it's the other way round (nub theory points girl and it ends up being a boy) Just wondering if anyone has any experience with it being wrong for them?

I will be happy either way just having a boy is going to take a lot of getting my head around! We are a two mum family and already have a DD, there's mostly girls in the wider family.. It's just fear of the unknown I think!

it’s quite reliable - i work in a scan clinic and our sonographer says she trusts it 99% of the time. that definitely looks boyish to me

noaddedsugarx · 25/09/2023 12:06

Yep my others look boyish too.. one you can't see the nub and the other apparently looks like there's stacking. Although my friend said that wasn't actually the nub.

Yeah I know it's reliable most of the time. I've only found a handful where a girl has been mistaken for a boy so I'm pretty sure I'm having a boy. I was just wondering if anyone had experience.

The nub does look very boyish, I had a boy after two girls and while it was terrifying to start with, he is just the best 💜

it does doesn't it 😅Aww that's so nice to know. I am mentally preparing myself for a boy. I have heard they are so loving. Realistically there was always going to be a 50/50 chance I just honestly never saw myself as a boy mum! But I guess what's meant to happen will happen.

I did see a thread the other day where the nub was boyish and it was a girl.. but I think the chances of that happening with scans as obvious as mine is about 5%. But it defo does happen you just don't see it very often.

NUB THEORY GUESSES PLEASE? | Mumsnet

We're having a 'gender' scan in around 4 weeks so will know for sure then. The way I feel atm I don't even think there's any point in having one haha but at least once we know for sure I will be able to try and wrap my head around it a bit better.

I sent my 3 month scan pic to the gender experts and they said girl, everyone thought girl, but 20 wk scan revealed he is a little boy! So it can be wrong

Tryingtryingandtrying · 28/09/2023 21:33

I think the chances of it being wrong is a lot less than 5%. Why do you need to prepare yourself?

Aww really! I bet that was a shock for you. It’s when they guess with such certainty as well. I think it’s definitely more common for it to be that way around than boy guesses end up girls.

Really? So you think the chance of it being boy is more than 95%? Interesting…

As I’ve explained we thought it was a girl and pictured things a certain way so it’s just trying to adjust the way we imagined things.

Thanks. Yep I know it does. Had a ton of boy guesses. Just wanted to know if anyone had it the other way round.

Like you OP I never imagined myself as a boy mum and when I found out I was having a boy it took me a while to get my head around. I guess I was hoping for another girl initially because DD is so wonderful and a boy feels unfamiliar etc. But omg words can't express how much I adore my little boy. He is the most adorable, loving, gentle, sweet little soul. Everyone comments how happy he is and he's just the light of our life! I never even think of him as being 'a boy'-he's just my beautiful baby!!!! X

My friends who have boys say that they are so loving as babies and just adore their mummies! My friend's son would just grab her face and stare at it as if she was the most beautiful thing in the world and it would make her feel wonderful. I always saw myself as a girl mum but wouldn't mind a little fanboy either :)

My
Sonographer at 12 week dating scan I asked her to have a look inbetween legs and she said boy I knew it was girl, 20 week confirmed girl

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 29/09/2023 09:41

I did last year 😂 ramzi theory said girl, early glimpse gave 85% chance of a girl.. but infact he was/is a boy! 😂 currently pregnant with baby number 5 and since found out we are having our first girl 😊

Cowlover89 · 29/09/2023 09:47

Ooh that’s crazy how even a sonographer can get it so wrong! Did your scan photo look girly?

@noaddedsugarx thank you 😊 do you have a preference then? x

noaddedsugarx · 29/09/2023 11:19

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX i did have a preference for a girl just because we have absolutely tons of stuff we could have reused that’s almost brand new. plus we’re two mums with a girl already so a little boy might feel a bit outnumbered in this all girl house. We’re both feminine as well so have no idea about the typical boy stuff and interests so I feel like we’ll have a lot to learn!

but the more I start to think about a little boy the more excited I’m getting 😊 especially hearing everyone talk about how loving they are.

funnily enough we were convinced it was the other way around with our first. 99% sure we were having a boy but didn’t know anything about nub theory then. didn’t have a preference at all either but when pink came out the cannon we got the shock of our lives!

Did you have you scan OP?

very curious! My scan looks boyish- secretly hoping for a girl as I have 2 boys and this is the last baby! So looking for others with boyish scans that have turned out to be girls 😂
