@Mushroo I have GD too, was diagnosed two weeks ago and was absolutely gutted and so so worried. Fast forward two weeks and I’m feeling so much better about it now. Do you have a clinic appointment booked in? I see it as a good sign they found it (like you, I didn’t have any symptoms and my test results were borderline-I was tested because of PCOS/age) as so many women go undiagnosed.
The NHS advice isn’t brilliant so I’d also recommend going to the Gestational Diabetes website and Facebook page. It’s a massive learning curve and I felt really overwhelmed at first but now I’m in the swing of it, it’s a lot easier and you can eat a lot more than you think you can, especially if you get organised with your meals. Eating on the go is hard but planning my meals has made it a lot more straightforward.
I try not to eat too many carbs in the morning and then make sure any carbs I have are paired with protein and fat. Snacks tend to be carb free for me. A typical weekday for me is:
breakfast- overnight oats with about 15g of rolled oats, full fat Greek yogurt, a small handful of berries, chia, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and a big dollop of almond butter.
lunch- feta and avocado salad, protein bagel thin with cream cheese and ham
dinner- chicken breast with cheese, cauliflower cheese with cannellini beans and broccoli
Sweet treats-Nature Valley protein bars (amazing warmed up for 30 seconds in the microwave and with cream!), 10 cal jelly pots, chocolate mousse from the GD website and Oppo ice cream!
it takes more time/headspace but worth it for a happy and healthy baby. Sending love xx
