@buckingmad i am praying for a sleeper this time 🙏🏻 I coslept with youngest until he was 2/2.5, I was over it!!

Dannic2018 · 26/09/2023 22:54

Sorry @Redpanda21 officially loosing the bleeding plot 🤣🤦‍♀️
@PartRadish hope the stitch holds well

I co-slept with my son for over 2.5 years practically and he’s only just starting to stay in his own bed for most of the night now so back to having a little one in our room for a few years 🤣

Kalodin · 27/09/2023 06:17

Another one with a co-sleeper! DS1, we were rather strict about sleeping in his own bed. DS3 rolled round and we got him a next to me crib, which he soon worked out how to roll out of to snuggle up to me and help himself to boob. The crib remained for naps and as a barrier at night.

Interestingly DS3 started sleeping through and settled much quicker than DS1 ever did. (Although granted that could be because DS1 has ASD)

Kalodin · 27/09/2023 06:18

Should add we found it pretty easy to transition DS3 into his own bed when we decided it was time to move him out. Although some mornings he still wanders in for lazy cuddles 🥰

I’m actually not planning on breastfeeding which is quite controversial in the world of MN.

We’ve pretty much ticked off all the big things and just need to finish off the nursery now. I’m too excited for our travel system/car seat to be delivered now to the shop where we purchased it from. I’m really happy that we’ve sorted most things out now.

suz2285 · 27/09/2023 09:23

@LittleAlien24 I've been looking at this website for a mattress it looks like they do them to measure too if it's an awkward size!

babymattressesonline.co.uk

LittleAlien24 · 27/09/2023 10:18

Thanks @suz2285 i literally need a mattress that measures 60x120. All the mattresses here for 60x120 cot are about 57x117 and the cap between the cot and mattress is too big

Luhou · 27/09/2023 13:36

I am not quite sure how our sleeping sittuation will work. Currently DD goes to bed at 7 in her own bed. She then usuaully wakes about 1am and I go get in her double bed. For the sake of getting sleep, I just stay there then for the night.

So either we carry on like this and DH will have to either have the baby or DD, and i'll have the other one. Or i'll have to go in and see DD get her back to sleep and then go back to our room/room with baby.

Flossiepot · 27/09/2023 13:54

Speaking of mattresses does anyone have advice on what's best for baby/ from 6 months for the cot? We've purchased our nursery furniture from M&Ps but they try to sell every possible material as a mattress and I have no idea what's best 🙈

suz2285 · 27/09/2023 14:32

@Flossiepot yeah when I'm trying to order a new mattress there's so many different choices, from what I've read it just seems to be 'good quality' ie not too soft and not old, so I guess everything else is preference but someone else might know more! 😂

One of the options of the ones I was looking at was a vented mattress with holes along the inside... sounded good but then someone said if baby has dribbles or anything they go right into the mattress and it doesn't come out properly! 🤷‍♀️😂

How old is your DD? We have a very similar set up with our DD who is 2. Luckily atm she sleeps through without waking maybe 50-60% of the time, then when she does wake DH and I take it in turns to do a night, he tends to stay with her and then leave when she falls back asleep whereas I am lazy and stay with her.

I'm hoping by the time baby comes she is sleeping through almost every night but our plan is that DH will just do every wake up with DD and I will sort the baby. DD does through a bit of a paddy when she realises it's Daddy and not Mummy but she's just going to have to get used to it.

DH was in the spare room with the dog for the first 18 months of DD's life and I think we'll probably do similar with this baby. For us it means he sleeps well (he really struggles with sleep and if he wakes up it takes him hours to get back to sleep whereas I can go back to sleep within seconds!) so then he is more with it to go to work and pick up more housework plus give me a lie in on weekends.

lilluce95 · 27/09/2023 15:53

@MrsJ6921 I'm also not planning on breastfeeding either so you're not the only one ☺️

I have no experience being a FTM but I've seen everywhere that co-sleeping isn't recommended? Is this not true as I can't imagine a nicer feeling than waking up next to your baby 🥰

At 22+5 I FINALLY felt her kick a few times today, definitely feels more real now 🩷

Luhou · 27/09/2023 16:53

@buckingmad good to know I'm not alone. DD will sleep through but it tends to be a run of sleeping through supposed to a night here and there. She is 3 end of next month.

DD can be quite vocal about who she wants, sometimes me or sometimes dad. It tends to be whoever has put her to bed.

I think we'll just find a way to muddle through, I'm sure!

Mummyme87 · 27/09/2023 16:54

@lilluce95 the lullaby trust talk about cosleeping and safety rules. In their cot, on their own is still the safest but naturally families do cosleep due to lack of sleep mainly. So it’s finding the safest way to do it, and being prepared is key

FirstT1meMum · 27/09/2023 17:33

Had my 25 week midwife appointment today and all is well, heard heartbeat again (after a bit of prodding 🫣).

Just wondering if anyone has been recommended any apps for counting babys movements? My midwife said to download Kicks Count but when I went to download it wasn't available on my system (said it was for an older version). I mentioned this to her and she said there was lots of similar apps, just wondering if anyone had an alternative?

LozzieLoo · 27/09/2023 17:37

@MrsJ6921 I’m also not planning to breastfeed. Not looking forward to the conversation when the midwife asks though.

We are just starting to sort the nursery this week, all very exciting!

Mummyme87 · 27/09/2023 18:05

@FirstT1meMum I’ve never heard of an app for monitoring movements nor recommended one either

suz2285 · 27/09/2023 18:49

@FirstT1meMum I'm using Ovia and it has a kick counter...

FirstT1meMum · 27/09/2023 19:03

@Mummyme87 I did think it wasn't very common, she didn't seem overly bothered and I'm quite happy to monitor them myself.

@suz2285 thank you, I'll have a look at this x

Mushroo · 27/09/2023 19:05

@FirstT1meMum ‘what to expect’ has one but I think it would stress me out so I’ve not used it.

I overthink so wouldn’t know if movement counted as a ‘kick’? And a lot of the movement is just general… movement? So I wouldn’t know how to count that either 😂.

I feel her move everyday now normally a couple of hours apart so if I get deviations from that I’ll worry.

suz2285 · 27/09/2023 19:53

@Mushroo yeah the two or three I've looked at for counts it says any movement counts so it's any roll, fluffer, kick or movement

But yeah a lot of people don't count on an app, like you say it's more about knowing your baby's pattern

lilluce95 · 27/09/2023 20:13

@Mummyme87 ahh thank you - I'll have a look into it ☺️

FirstT1meMum · 27/09/2023 20:27

Thank you everyone, I was a bit reluctant to use an app as I feel it'd just become another thing to worry about if I suddenly forgot to record or anything! I feel like we're getting in a rhythm now so I know when to expect to feel her! Happy to know not many are using a counting app

Ttcdcno1 · 27/09/2023 20:37

@MrsJ6921 I am not planning on breastfeeding either! Looking forward to being questioned why 😂

LittleAlien24 · 27/09/2023 22:29

With my 2 previous pregnancies there was no such things as apps so i won't be doing it this time either. I know it would make me more anxious. Just gonna trust myself.
Im not specially planning on co sleeping, will see how it goes. My first was grand to sleep by herself while my second had to be "clued" to me for the first 7 months.
