Cramping- is this normal?

I'm 4+6, I found out at 3+5 and ever since 3+6 I've been getting cramps. I have a lot of symptoms but the cramps are worrying me! Is this normal? I have my first scan booked in for the 3rd October but I'm so worried about losing the bean🥺

Hi,

this is exactly how I am! I’m now 6 weeks and have had the cramps on and off- waiting on the early scan just to prove everything else is okay. But it’s meant to be quite common to have cramps on and off, some people have even said they cramped continuously for the first trimester 🤷‍♀️
so I don’t think my comment helps necessarily! But you’re not alone!!!!

Aquamarine1029 · 03/09/2023 16:55

This is very common and totally normal. Try not to worry.

CAGH03 · 03/09/2023 18:18

@Louspen I have been told by my mum they're normal but I've had a few really painful ones that have worried me. Hope your scan goes okay! x

Yes. I had cramps for 5 weeks with DS1. Felt like a bad period.

Montydin · 03/09/2023 18:23

I’ve had cramps on and off since I got a positive rest and am 7 weeks tomorrow and have had an early scan showing everything is so far ok. Sometimes they’ve been quite severe as well and I’ve run off to the toilet expecting to see my period starting! I think it’s your uterus stretching and everything moving around down there.

Louspen · 03/09/2023 20:21

This is the reassurance I like! 😍

CAGH03 · 03/09/2023 20:36

@Montydin this makes me feel a little better, Thankyou :) will wait and see what my scan says next month x

I had some in early pregnancy. Thought my periods were coming as I hadn't tested yet as I was sick of years of negative tests. Tested at 5w and kept having cramps for weeks afterwards as I remember using mouse with one hand and giving myself light massage on other one.

Louspen · 03/09/2023 21:11

@CAGH03 I mean I remember being woken at 3 weeks with severe cramping in the night- where it literally took my breath away and I was wriggling around in bed- since then I haven’t had anymore or any bleeding; just on and off cramps all over the place! Google just doesn’t help because one minute cramping is fine, then the next it isn’t! I’ve found more reassurance and info on here than Google 😬unfortunately it’s a waiting game for us both!! But I wish you good luck too ☺️

Montydin · 03/09/2023 21:19

If it’s just cramping and no bleeding that’s a good sign! I found a hot water bottle helps as well as a warm bath

LeopardLover · 03/09/2023 21:30

Oh hello 😉

Totally normal! I had really bad cramps with my son, this time too actually combined with a heavy feeling in my uterus. I thought I was going to bleed at any moment!

How's the nausea? 😘 X

I had really intense cramps at the start of pregnancy (I’m now at 12 weeks). I found out 3 weeks 4 days and then for a good 2 weeks had really intense painful cramps. I had my 12 week scan 2 days ago and everything was good and I was told the cramps are very normal.

Fancy seeing you here 😙

I haven't bled at all, didn't even get implantation bleeding, just feel like my period is going to arrive any minute and I'm now 5 weeks🥹 as long as the cramps are normal hopefully beam will be fine🥰
The nausea stopped for a little and most symptoms went away, then it all came back with a vengeance yesterday🥲 thought I was genuinely going to be sick last night 😩 I can't stop testing either but one brand of tests show and faint line, and others show a very obvious line. Think I'll do one more digital and call it quits🤣
How are you feeling now?😘x

@CAGH03 It's great you aren't bleeding ❤️ I know it can be such a worrying time. I swear I had cramping up until about 11 weeks 🙈

Ah yes 🤣 fluctuating symptoms are a thing 🙈 I hope you avoid the sickness! I found food helped 🤔😅

I'm feeling okay, thanks! 💗 Still nauseous but I haven't been sick for 2 days xx

Puddle13 · 03/09/2023 22:04

It is much better now, I got nausea and vomiting from 4 weeks and it didn’t really fade until 10/11 weeks. It has been a pretty intense first trimester, I spent most of it in bed surviving off fruit, salt and vinegar crisps and bread. The only thing I really have now is the tiredness still and some food aversions. But I will say having the intense symptoms did also reassure me. I know someone who didn’t really have symptoms in the first trimester and that would have made me worry more. I found the 8 weeks pretty anxiety inducing so I do totally get it. I even posted about my own cramps on here and was really reassured. Is this your first pregnancy too?

GLC789 · 03/09/2023 22:26

So happy I found this thread Op as I've been in the same boat! Looks like we're practically matching with timing too as I'm 5 weeks today. First pregnancy at age 35.

I also had some really intense cramps this last week that terrified me.

Thank you to all the women here who have offered their reassuring experiences and words of encouragement. You really have no idea how much it means x

The cramping has lessened a little, but was quite painful last night😩 5 weeks today, babies heart starts beating🥹 I'm mainly extremely emotional and everything is making me so angry 🥲x

Yes it's mine and my fiancés first pregnancy, and so far it's been quite difficult. He doesn't quite understand why as I'm not 'really pregnant' yet, I'm 5 weeks today, but my symptoms seem to be doing a great job at making me a moody, crying, starving baby for the past two weeks🥲 only thing I can't stomach right now it chicken or cheese and pasta, which was my favourite thing ever before pregnancy x

Oh cool! I'm 5 weeks today! I've been told the cramps are completely normal but they definitely don't feel that way, they feel so scary! First pregnancy, I'm 19, almost 20 and my fiancé is 22. Mainly struggling with controlling my emotions at the moment, making me feel a little lonely 🥲x

OP posts:
GLC789 · 04/09/2023 07:25

@CAGH03 the emotions are a whole new level aren't they! Be kind to yourself. You're not as alone as you think.

The women on mumsnet will have your back if nothing else xxx

Puddle13 · 04/09/2023 07:30

You are most definitely really pregnant now. In terms of the hormones and the changes that happen. The first trimester is super intense and especially as it was my first I had no idea how my body would respond. Everyone is different and even different pregnancies can cause different symptoms in the same person. I’m still averse to all cheese and for a while couldn’t eat any pasta.

I also am not a crying person normally but this pregnancy has made me cry almost everyday sometimes for no apparent reason. My fiancé has been great at looking after me but he won’t ever be able to fully understand how it feel to have all these changes happening, it makes me feel quite out of control at times.

The anxiety in the first few weeks before I had an early viability scan at 7 weeks were quite intense but I also think mixing that with feel so ill didn’t help.

I hope this is helpful as to be honest I feel like I was totally underprepared for how intense the first trimester can be. I know it’s not that bad for others but it is also very normal for it to be a pretty overwhelming time too.
