Hyperovulation

hello everyone

I am looking to conceive a baby. Unfortunately, as I plan to leave my job due to us moving house out of the area, I really am on a tight time line and this is the last month I can conceive and receive maternity cover (after that I wont receive it because I'll need to move away from a commutable distance)

I just had a scan to check I am on track to ovulate and I have 6 follicles. 3 on each ovary. The doctor advised that I need to wait until Monday but if they all look like they will develop, then I need to abstain and not try this month. I am devastated as this really was the last month. I have tried and tried, and each time either nothing happens, or I get pregnant and lose the baby to a chemical. I did take some injection this month to stimulate ovulation but the doctor said she is very surprised to see how many eggs i have produced.

Has anyone else had this? Any advice on what I can do?

Really I would still try if it's your last month!

Highly doubt it but if you think that's the chance then I guess don't try 😂 be fun having 6 😂😂

user5566 · 31/08/2023 18:41

I already have 2! Is there a serious chance I'd end up with multiples? I can't believe this is the situation after endless chemicals!

Kellyaust · 31/08/2023 18:48

I mean yes if you release more than one egg,, but every single egg would need to be fertilised.

user5566 · 31/08/2023 19:50

I see. ok. It is such a gamble. I really don't want to miss this chance.

Go for it.

user5566 · 31/08/2023 19:56

If you see a story in the news in 9 months of a woman with sextuplets...

out of interest, has anyone out there been through IVF and a similar situation and ended up with one? Im guessing there is a chance I could end up with none. The doctor just seemed extremely cautious about it and "concerned" for my health (I dont have underlying conditions) if I went ahead and dtd in the next 4 days

Are you taking clomid? I thought that it was normal to produce multiple follicles in a natural cycle but only one or occasionally two tend to mature?

user5566 · 01/09/2023 03:47

No not clomid, it was something else I need to get the name
She was saying it looks as though they are all maturing

LavenderSweetPea · 01/09/2023 07:57

It's not the same with IVF, you (hopefully) get a lot of mature follicles like you have, but then they are collected up and fertilised outside of your body. They'll only transfer over 1 embryo, max 2, at a time to you so you don't end up with huge numbers of multiples.

The risk is really with six mature follicles what if even 4 of them fertilise? Even quads are incredibly risky to themselves and to you, whilst you can have a successful pregnancy with 4 most quad pregnancies end in the loss of all the babies. And that's just 4, what if there ended up being 6?

user5566 · 01/09/2023 09:14

@LavenderSweetPea thank you. I understand. So we wouldn't be taking out the eggs to fertilise. The intention was just to check I am ovulating etc and make sure DTD at the right time. So I really need some of these follicles to stop maturing so I only have 1 or max 2, so I can try... but is there nothing I can do? my oPK is negative still. The docotr thought I would ovulate on saturday but looks unlikely. she told me not to dtd and wait until she scans me monday to see if any have stopped maturing and we have less to contend with.

user5566 · 02/09/2023 08:57

Hi everyone - wondering your thoughts. I got a flashing smiley this morning. Do you think its too risky to DTD? or shall I wait until a solid and maybe thats Monday, then I can check if only one follicle has matured?
before I've had a flashing smiley which then quickly (even in one day) can go to a solid. So I'm worried that by the time I have my appointment with the doc on Monday morning to scan, it will be too late to give it a try :/

Personally I wouldn't risk it, it sounds like your chance of multiples would be very high. Is there a nurse out of hours helpline at your clinic you could contact for more specific advice?

user5566 · 02/09/2023 11:20

Thank you for replying
They didn't give me any number
I know you're probably right but I do feel
So
Disappointed that this was my last chance after so
Many chemicals Angry

So sorry, can you try again once you've got settled in to your new place?

user5566 · 02/09/2023 18:36

It won't really work. I will need to change jobs, as I can't work from there once our office re opens after a refurb in the new year, the plan was that I'd go on maternity, have the baby and keep the maternity pay, and then have the conversation about working remotely or leaving once it came to returning
But if I don't give it the last try this month I'll
Miss the window to go on maternity leave before the office reopens . It seems crazy I get it
But we tried for so many months and OH said this is it last chance

I think usually with IVF if one follicle matures the other tend to get “lost” as such that’s why they need to collect the follicles before one of the matures and leaves the ovary. So even if you have a lot of them, depending on their size and if there is a leading follicle you could be okay to conceive just the one baby. However if you have two leading follicles and both of them mature and are released at the same time you could potentially have twins but this really depends on one’s fertilisation rate as a lot of people unfortunately don’t conceive every time they try.

the best of luck with whatever decision you make

user5566 · 03/09/2023 14:54

really interesting @FrostedFlake and thank you for sharing. I have a scan tomorrow, I really hope I get a green light to try Biscuit

I've just had IVF, had 8 mature-looking follicles but after egg collection, there were actually 16 mature eggs, 13 of which fertilised! I had a medication to prevent ovulation but we were told not to DTD beforehand in case the ovulation prevention didn't work properly and we ended up conceiving multiples.

Hope you have good news tomorrow @user5566but if not you need to weigh the risks of potentially conceiving a large number of multiples (and obviously any of those could split into identical) against stopping your family at the two you already have.

user5566 · 03/09/2023 16:02

@hopefulmum46 you are right
And I think I stick with what I have
It will be really tough though ! As I have been so hopeful
Wow I'm happy for
Yoy you have so many eggs! If we were going down the route of ivf beyond the clomid /pills I would be so happy as at least I could save the multiple eggs ! It seems pointless having so
Many and it meaning I can't try at all

OP posts:
FrostedFlake · 03/09/2023 16:20

@hopefulmum46 my last round almost got cancelled as we had one leading follicle and if that matures first before they can retrieve them the others perish as such that’s why they have to monitor it so closely otherwise it’s a cancelled IVF round.

FrostedFlake · 03/09/2023 16:21

And by mature I meant to say it gets released as they want as many mature follicles as possible to go into the fertilisation stage.

user5566 · 06/09/2023 19:30

Thanks @FrostedFlake and everyone
So to follow up- still not ovulated
Seems from scan today I have many follicles
But 3 are growing , none big enough yet
I have a matter of weeks before my health insurance changed and I don't have maternity cover
And I also will lose my maternity leave
Anyone know of a way to bring your due date forward even artificially!?
Trying to work out my maternity leave start date to bring it forward
If I were to get pregnant next month
It's ridiculous of course Blush
