Oh wow another baby in the group! Congratulations @stardust25609. I'm so glad you're both home and doing well! Thank you for the ideas on how many clothes to start with how many outfits does your little one go through in a day would you say roughly? I also saw a trick I was going to try but incase you've not seen it - it was to tuck the back of the nappy in to avoid blow outs, not sure if it works but it might maybe.

Thanks for those links @afternoontea86 I'll check those out tomorrow 😊 I keep seeing all the gorgeous Christmas outfits but because we're due the 27th I can't buy them or the born in 2023 outfits because they might not be with for either of these to make sense 😂 so I've told my mom and sister in the hope that if baby arrives before - they'll buy us a Christmas outfit lol.

We're building their wardrobe for them tonight - I'm so excited !

Oh yes I'd heard about the tucking in trick but completely forgot first few days as just getting on the nappy felt like a triumph as she's such a wriggler, and then want to get her redressed as quickly as possible so she stops screaming. Will start trying it now. Also tbh the poo wasn't a problem first few days - she's weed as we were changing her so got it on the clothes, but just had first poo explosion today now it's no longer meconium poo. I'd say 3 outfits a day average at the moment - 1 nappy issue and then making an effort to change her into something new for bed as she tends to spit up milk on herself during the day. Let's see if this gets worse now the poos have changed. If so we'll rotate in the up to 1 month stuff as this is still ok to wear tbh not so giant her head will slip down into it, but just looks silly with the long legs and massively rolled up arms.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 26/11/2023 19:35

@Nclktnntt I’m the same with Christmas outfits. There are so many cute ones but chances are my baby will be after Christmas. Oh well we can get the “first Christmas” outfits next year.

afternoontea86 · 26/11/2023 19:49

Congratulations @stardust25609 !! Glad to hear everything is ok with you and baby girl. Soak in those newborn days as they'll fly by! It's starting to feel more real now people on the thread are having their babies and I just want mine out!

@Charlielechat Honestly there is no need to worry. Both me and DH have massive families who just dumped us with all their baby clothes as we're probably the last on both sides to have a baby. I'm not even kidding when I say that at one point I had about 20 boxes of clothes in her nursery plus all the clothes from the boys + bits I'd bought. I've donated about just over half to a local women's shelter and the rest I've kept. Even what I've kept is definitely far too much.

@ThomasinaLivesHere I guess as you've had one before you'll be more prepared and know what to expect which is good. We're using a private hospital in London but live about an hours drive so my biggest worry is not making it to the hospital in time.

@Nclktnntt I should have taken your route! Both my boys were around two weeks late and if that's the case with this one I might have a Christmas baby which I really don't want! TBH items like sleepsuits even if Christmassy I will still use but if she arrives after and doesn't wear that £70 dress my mum bought I will be annoyed!

Charlielechat · 26/11/2023 20:05

@afternoontea86 Yeah I think that's why I hadn't gone overboard buying things, as people always say you get lots of gifts. I might buy some more basic sleepsuits though just in case.

@Nclktnntt H&M and TU Clothing have extended returns until end of January so I've bought some Christmas, 2023 and girls clothes. They can just be returned when baby is born if they're not needed :)

Hi everyone! So lovely to hear of these babies now we are getting closer to December. Here’s my birth story as a FTM.
I went into labour spontaneously at 38 weeks, and had my baby at home as planned. It was an intense night. Started contractions in the early evening, lost my plug around 5pm. Went in for assessment, said I was 1-2cm dilated. Then went home around 9:30, set up the birth pool, got the tens machine on, and called the midwives to come at 11pm. They turned up at 12, was 4cm dilated. BP slightly high, so wouldn’t let me in the birth pool, contractions ramped up, waters broke with some blood in them. Midwives suggested calling an ambulance to transfer in. Checked before I went, 10cm and fully dilated. Baby was born at 12:45. Taken in for stitches and home the next day. Still a bit of a blur as it all happened so fast. Me and baby doing well now.

VillageFete · 27/11/2023 04:45

@stardust25609 @wannabemum38 @GlitterDragon Huge congratulations!! Hope all of you are doing well!

I’m 38 weeks tomorrow. Still haven’t set Next to Me crib up, or car seat or lots of other things 🥺 Must do this week as C section is 6th Dec.

Can’t sleep for heartburn. It’s getting progressively worse every evening, to the point i’m still awake tonight and have to be up in 2 hours for the school run. Have so much to do tomorrow but just can’t sleep with the pain and discomfort. Rennies aren’t touching the side.

In terms of a baby carrier, I had a Close Caboo for my son but never used it once. Again, need to learn how to use that before baby’s arrival.

SMG1992 · 27/11/2023 07:23

Congrats to all that have had their babies! I love hearing your stories and hope you are all home safely and enjoying your little bubble.

im 37+4 today, I’ve got this week left at work so am just taking it one thing at a time at the moment. I really hope this week goes smoothly and I can have a little breather before he makes an appearance

Nclktnntt · 27/11/2023 08:00

Congratulations @GlitterDragon on your arrival! Sounds like a quick but also scary at times for you, I'm glad you got your home birth and that you're both doing well 😊

I'm not so concerned with getting our next to bed set up, we tested it out on arrival and it took like 5 mins to set up and would be about 5 mins to attach to the bed. We're undecided on when to put the seat in the car ready though because when it's in, my knees are almost on the dashboard 🙈

Congrats on all the babies! So exciting 💕
Im 37+2 today and set up the next to me crib last night. Feels surreal! Going to collect the car seat from the shop this week, I’m going to leave the pram tho due to the superstition. My partner can pick that up while we’re in hospital lol.

My mom asked if I wanted to keep the pram at hers, I concluded that if it stays in the box and isn't set up, then technically it's not a pram 😂 like years ago it was all set up and didn't get tacked apart etc, plus as half of our house is un liveable just now, (renovating and is bare brick with no ceilings, floors, heating or electrics) I don't see it as part of the home yet - currently working on getting the heating in the middle floor (doing underfloor throughout) and once we've done that we'll have floors and heating throughout 💪 , so it stays out in that part of the house just now lol. I'm also not that superstitious tbh. But quite a few have asked me about the pram and if it's in the home. It does make me wonder where it all started though and how it all came about.

OP posts:
99SR · 27/11/2023 09:38

@Nclktnntt to be honest it didn’t really cross my mind until countless people said “you’re not keeping it in the house are you” definitely got to me lol. And none of my family live near enough to keep it at theirs so it’s at the shop! Sounds like you’ve got a lot of work to do lol! Are you planning on getting it done before baby arrives?

Mushroo · 27/11/2023 09:56

So exciting on all the babies! I set up my next to me over the weekend.

Stupid question - how are you getting in and out of bed?! At the moment it’s quite far down so there’s a gap between the crib and my bedside table I can use. But once she’s here I’ll want her actually next to me (so the crib will be touching the bedside table).

Do I wiggle down and get out at the bottom? I suppose it’ll be easier without a giant bump…

Nclktnntt · 27/11/2023 09:57

@99SR no chance on it being ready/done before baby arrives. There is a lot a lot to do, it's already been 5 years, so I'm used to it. We have part of the house liveable - which is the living/kitchen/ dining space (swap dining for bedroom area for now) - and that space is bigger than our 1 bed apartment was, so we have enough space. We have babies wardrobe and draws set up in there too. The sink is big enough to fit their bath in so we'll be good. I've said I want their nursery ready by 6 months which should be doable. Once we've got the floors and ceilings done , and put the electrics in, it's ready to be plasterboarded which doesn't take long.

Ideally I'd have liked the house at least plasterboarded by the time baby arrived but it didn't work out that way, and we're doing it ourselves and both working full time plus the more pregnant I got the less help I could be and in the first trimester I was quite poorly so was no help at all, so my husbands been doing it all bless him. I don't want baby to be 1 and we're still living downstairs in the one room though because I think the older and more aware of their surroundings they get, the scarier the house will be when it's no longer everything in one room for them, if that makes sense. Which is why I've said by 6 months their nursery needs to be ready at least.

SMG1992 · 27/11/2023 10:17

I had no idea about this pram superstition.
We put ours up and in the hallway at the weekend - it looks so lovely there all ready too!

Nclktnntt · 27/11/2023 11:07

@Mushroo this is why I've not set mine up yet, I can't be doing with the hassle of shuffling down the bed with my bump getting bigger 😂 ours you can attach to the bed but then I clip it so you can move it away during the day - can yours do this (thinking just while wait long for baby, it can all be ready to go, just not physically attached and just needs clipping in place)

I was wondering about this just yesterday.
For when baby does arrive and it is attached I'm thinking we'd have to shuffle down to get out, orrr I'll make my parter get babies bottle, changing mat and bits and I'll / we'll do it on the bed without having to get out.

@SMG1992 it's a silly old wife's tale that started out as any baby items in the house at all - over the years it's changed and is now just the pram. But as the prams are now all modular I don't see how it can continue and is already a dying superstition.

OP posts:
Mushroo · 27/11/2023 11:15

@Nclktnntt yeh I’ve not clipped it yet so I can move it for now but it’s just a bit in the way 😂

Not really looking forward to shuffling out once she’s here, particularly if I end up with a c section. Might make DH move and get out his side.

SMG1992 · 27/11/2023 11:45

@Mushroo Good point about the next to me crib, I hadn't thought out it either. That's the last thing we haven't put together yet but I'll have to try and figure out the best position for it.
Maybe if it's quite high up it would be easier as could (not including c-section births) sit up and still get out?

GingerJanee · 27/11/2023 11:57

Aw even more babies this is so exciting now 🥰

I had my not a baby shower baby lunch yesterday 😂 wasn’t keen on having a full event type thing mainly because I’m exhausted so just had lunch with some friends and it was lovely! The place was decorated for Christmas too so I felt like I was kind of there for the Christmas outing too (they’re all heading out the 22nd so definitely won’t be making that one!)

This is my last week of work 🎉🎉 I didn’t think I’d be ready to go off but I really am, completely exhausted at this stage so only 4 more days to go. Our baby bits are currently sitting on a container in the Irish Sea (haven’t been delivered yet to the store) so I have nothing set up that way yet 😂 hoping they’re here for the weekend and we can collect next week. I’m more worried about the next to me and car seat it’s a little cold to even get out with a baby in the pram but thankfully our store sets the pram up on collection so it’s a thing we don’t need to worry about, I am a little superstitious though so don’t think I’ll take it into the house until baby is here. I’ve thought so much about the next to me in the room and how people wiggle into bed glad I’m not the only one 😂

I’ve also finally bought a bouncer and a few small baby toys which I’m going to wrap under the tree for the first Christmas, such a daft idea but my little cousins are distraught panicking that the baby will be forgotten about from Santa for Christmas so it’s moreso for them.

VillageFete · 27/11/2023 15:25

I’ll tell you what, after being up ALL NIGHT with that unbelievably horrendous heartburn, i’m absolutely dreading the sleepless nights 🤣

Trying to decorate the house for Christmas this week as well as finish off sorting the house for baby arrival. Also need my car looking at and my older two children’s Christmas presents need to be wrapped. I could really do with another week to get organised! But somehow will have to make it work.

Let the madness begin hey… we are all so close.

Nclktnntt · 27/11/2023 16:30

Have you tried gaviscon @VillageFete ? One of my clients asked me if I'm swigging it from the bottle yet 😂 thankfully my heartburn / reflux isn't too bad and I can just ignore it but it is uncomfortable. But she had it really bad. You can get it prescribed and it's free then too 😊

I've been unpacking the mound of deliveries that arrived today and putting another baby load on to wash - I'm knackered! And I slept quite well considering, we have an Antinatal class this evening I'm no doubt going to fall asleep!

Mamaroo arrived today. I'm tempted to set it up but it'll just sit gatherings dust so it can stay in its box until baby arrives. I don't plan to use it much - more for being able to brush teeth, shower or wash, that kinda thing when partners back at work (he only gets 1 week). Gym ball arrived too - might get that blown up instead. Will be more useful not in the box 😂

OP posts:
VillageFete · 27/11/2023 16:47

@Nclktnntt I’m going to have to get some Gaviscon. I’ve only got Rennies in. Praying for an easier night tonight!

The Mamaroo - I was gifted a brand new one by a close friend when I had my son. He HATED it 🤣 He much preferred a cheap £30 swing one! Hoping this baby enjoys it otherwise what a waste?!

We have a garden house and all of the baby stuff is set up in there. I just need to clean the pram (Reusing my Son’s Mama and Papa’s Ocarro)

Currently on my knees sorting out kitchen cupboards. So uncomfortable 😣

Nclktnntt · 27/11/2023 17:34

@VillageFete I have heard some babies don't take to them. I've brought a traditional style bouncer/rocker too - just in case.

OP posts:
afternoontea86 · 27/11/2023 17:53

Congratulations @GlitterDragon !

I've got a whole week child free to get sorted this week which is great! DS6 is in school full time and DS3 is usually with me in the afternoon but our nanny has just started last week so is looking after him so I can get organized.

I picked up the Bugaboo Fox 5 today and built on my own! It's now proudly sitting in the hall way and I cannot wait to use it. It looks fab! Also got the Bugaboo Butterfly as I go into London on the train often and just could not face the tube with a large pushchair. We've got the Snuzpod from the boys and I cannot recommend it enough. Another thing I love is the Dock A Tot Deluxe+. Used it with both my boys for daytime naps downstairs and tummy time. Also great to just lie them on it while your busy. It is quite pricey and I had my old one but went to get it out the attic and it was mouldy so I've had to buy a new one. Anyone else got the Bugaboo Giraffe with the baby seat attachment? Had the Stokke one with the boys which my youngest still uses but this one you can also put the baby seat on the floor as a rocker which I thought was more versatile.
