@clarebear111 I'm doing the NCT classes and one of them is on breastfeeding. The classes aren't until November but I'll share any good tips

@SMG1992 Thank you, that would be great.

wannabemum38 · 19/10/2023 16:58

I'm 33 weeks tomorrow tiredness ìs really bad again and everything is a struggle. Have finally ordered our pram and I'm going to make up my hospital bag at the weekend I think. I've been having braxton hicks for last couple of weeks but not had any last two days thankfully as very uncomfortable.
We start our nct classes next week looking forward to it meeting other mums to be.
On the home stretch now ladies can't believe it!

ejg504 · 19/10/2023 19:54

@clarebear111
I struggled a lot with breast feeding but the best thing I did was reach out to my local infant feeding team and la leche league. I would go to meetings fortnightly and they had trained people who helped look at the latch etc. it mainly helped though because there was just so much peer support- I was convinced there was something wrong as baby was always at my breast, so I thought I had a poor supply and was starving baby, but at the meetings it was so reassuring to be around other breastfeeding mums who were experiencing the exact same thing. It just encouraged me to keep going really.
So my advice is to reach out for support, and don't feel bad if you have to give top ups or combi feed (I did this too) and as long as I expressed when he had a bottle it made no difference to my supply. I'm really hoping I'm going to be more relaxed this time and if I can't breastfeed enjoy bottle feeding too. Every time I gave a bottle last time I kept thinking I failed, which is just ridiculous. Fed is best.

Charlielechat · 19/10/2023 23:32

Has anyone only just started feeling proper hiccups low down? Mine started last week at 29 weeks and it freaked me out because it was after some frantic movement! I called the midwife who wasn't concerned and said it sounded like hiccups. I read hiccups are supposed to stop at 32 weeks so I'm curious as to whether anyone else is in the same boat!

LittleButtercup · 20/10/2023 14:29

@Charlielechat my little one is still hiccuping almost every day 😊
It was the same with DD1, she would hiccup multiple times a day right up until birth, and she was a very hiccupy baby afterwards, too!

Charlielechat · 20/10/2023 15:46

@LittleButtercup thanks for the response! That's good to know. I just thought it was weird that I'm only starting to feel the hiccups now for the first time. But they were hiccuping way back in the 16 week scan so I suppose they've been doing it a long time!

Flowers90 · 21/10/2023 07:57

@clarebear111 no advice with the breast feeding but feel exactly the same as you. My first was born just before the bank Holiday weekend in May 2020. Husband had started a new job a few months before lockdown, when they shut he ended up working an agency job to keep.some income coming into the house..by day 3 I was on my own. The thought of him having 2 weeks off this time is such a relief..

Nclktnntt · 22/10/2023 20:04

Hi everyone! How are we all? We're going pram, car seat, buggy, nursery furniture and everything big shopping tomorrow. Have an appointment with John Lewis then one after in mammas and papas to go test drive and see as much as possible.

I'm so excited and also feel a little overwhelmed, anyone done this already? What questions should I ask or what do you wish you asked when there?

In terms of pram, consider what kind of lifestyle you have and what kind of terrain it will mostly be used on. We do lots of country walks so wanted something that could handle that. Also think about boot space as some will collapse much smaller than others. Another thing to consider is are you planning a second with a small age gap as you can buy prams that can be turned into two seater at a later date.

A carseat that attaches to the pram was a god send to me with my second for doing nursery pick ups etc

wannabemum38 · 22/10/2023 20:43

@Nclktnntt how exciting! We looked at John lewis for our pram/stroller didn't find them pushy at all. Ask them to show you how they fold up if they do. Make sure you lift them and find out heavy they are even getting into and out of a car boot etc think they have a car set up so you can try out car seats which would be handy. We bought ours eventually from there as John Lewis have good guarantee and they stocked one we wanted. We haven't bought nursery furniture as such so can't comment on that but with that I'd say make sure you take measurements!

Mushroo · 22/10/2023 21:08

@Nclktnntt we bought all our stuff from John Lewis - they weren’t pushy at all and you get a discount code.

Definitely think about your lifestyle. We live in the suburbs and I very rarely drive so I wanted something compact when folded, easy to fold and light.

We’ve gone for the bugaboo dragonfly on that basis and haven’t bothered with a travel system - just the maxi cosi pro 360 pearl.

Charlielechat · 22/10/2023 21:45

@Nclktnntt we tested out a pram in Mamas and Papas - made sure it fit in the car boot etc. But bought it online on Pramworld as part of a travel system bundle 🙈 It worked out about £700 cheaper

Nclktnntt · 22/10/2023 21:49

Thanks guys - I was originally thinking a travel system but as we have a 3 door car and prob won't be getting a 5 door anytime soon I think the car seat would be better just in the car. The boots ok but not massive (1 series) so Def need to consider how small it will fold down too for sure!

I wanna walk daily and will start running again at some point (when I'm ready) and plan to take them with me when they're able to come, not sure if I'd need a separate pram from that though. I know I want a by me bed too. There's just so much choice out there, it's a mine field 🙈

So we went to both John Lewis and mammas and papas today for their 90 minute sessions. John Lewis won for us in the pushchair and car seat front, we went with the upper baby vista set with the maxi cosi pebble pro car seat. The vista although being future proof if we have more kids wasn't the reason that we chose it more so but the overnight sleep ability in the basin Ry and the calapsability function of it for storage too. It folded down nicely too which is important for our boot space. Not as small as some go but small enough. The car seat was a must for us as we do do quite long car journeys and it can lie flat and they can be in it up to around 15 months.

Really happy we've made our first decisions on big items and started purchasing! Just deciding on nursery furniture and will be getting that ordered over the next couple weeks I hope.

It strangely makes everything feel really real 😂 I now need to make a list of all the smaller items we'll need so as not to forget 😂

Hope you're all well and baby's treating you kindly. Mine is living to be up under my ribs just now which is getting quite uncomfortable

Beans1982 · 24/10/2023 10:01

@Nclktnntt We also went for the Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 Pro car seat - It just seems to make things more convenient and the layflat option also will be a great advantage.
We'll be purchasing from John Lewis as well (I have a slight advantage to be purchasing from JL, but I also know that the service Partners provide is really great). We're going for the iCandy peach 7 travel bundle with the Maxi Cosi car seat - just need to place the order now 😁
I may have gone a bit crazy with buying clothes for baby...I find it so difficult to know what items he'll need (apart from the sleepsuits and bodysuits, and hats/mittens, and a pramsuit for winter) and what size is best to get.
My MIL has bought a few newborn items but to me they look too small, almost prem size. All of the bits we've bought so far are 0-3 months - but I have a feeling baby is starting to track ahead of where he should be...

TulipVictory · 24/10/2023 11:04

Anyone measuring on the larger side ? Just had my midwife appointment at 33+6 weeks and measuring 35 weeks. She thinks the baby will probably be on the larger side and is on the 95th centile 😩

RG84 · 24/10/2023 11:14

@TulipVictory I am having the same issue, at my 28 week growth scan I was measuring 90th and i'm dreading to think what the numbers are this Friday when I have my next scan, this week I turned 32 weeks. I have type2 diabetes which is the main cause of it....i'm also very anxious and nervous on the numbers.

Nov2023 · 24/10/2023 11:37

Hi. My due date is the end of November so I follow this thread too as he could be a December baby! My 32 week growth scan measured baby as big.. Midwife thought the same at 32 and 34 weeks. Back in for another growth scan at 36 weeks and will discuss birth options including ELCS then. I know none of it is an exact science but it's unnerving to think a first baby will be big 😬

VeeAye · 24/10/2023 12:23

I'm also measuring big. Have my second growth scan today but last time she was measuring above 95th percentile. At the moment they are suggesting they will induce at 39 weeks because of this. Originally I was against it but knowing a more certain time for when she will arrive is providing some peace which makes me think it is worth it. Interested to see what she is measuring today. It is all quite odd because I don't feel very big at all, not using maternity clothes just some high waisted trousers and tshirts in a size bigger than normal.

Nov2023 · 24/10/2023 12:59

@VeeAye I feel exactly the same! bump also measuring big but I don't look all that big. It must be how the baby is sitting. I am using maternity trousers as they are so comfy but normal tops a size up are fine for now.. Good luck today!

SMG1992 · 24/10/2023 13:07

Mine is measuring big - over 95th percentile for both my midwife appointments.
I asked my midwife what this will mean moving forward and she wasn't worried about any birth issues. I'll bring it up again at my next appointment.

I've had a sudden onset of back, hip and pelvis pain the last couple of days which is really uncomfortable. Looking at the Healthier together app it looks like an onset of PGP :( I'm going to try and rest more the next few days and hope it subsides a bit. I don't think I could get through the next 7 weeks feeling like this!

RG84 · 24/10/2023 13:16

Due to a big baby and type 2 diebeties, they have scheduled a c-section at exactly 38 weeks which is on the 4th Dec. I'll get an updated growth scan on the 27th Oct so this Friday to see where I am.

Flowersandfloral · 24/10/2023 13:26

I'm measuring big as well at the moment, been two weeks ahead for the last two midwife appointments. They haven't mentioned anything about early induced or scans or anything to me though. Just said baby likely to be above 8lb!

Nclktnntt · 24/10/2023 13:54

Clothes is what we really need to start purchasing and the bibs, socks vests etc too @Beans1982 - I would say get some 0-1 month and my plan is to get some newborn but right towards the end so if they're too big I can return them still. New borns I've noticed come in 2 sizes and usually have the weight up to on them. I'll by 1 item of small newborn a couple larger newborn then everything else 0-1 & 0-3.

Also bare in mind most people will buy you 0-3 when baby arrives so maybe don't get anymore but look at some 3-6 so you don't have to rush out if they start out growing the 0-3 too soon. That's my plan anyway.

I need blankets - why are blankets so costly for baby's? I can buy a brilliant throw for the house for £20 but a baby blanket is like £40 and so small it makes no sense. Boggles the mind 😂

Tbf I need everything - we also purchase their furniture suite last night for them. Then realised we need to order a mattress and there was sooop much choice so we need to investigate that more before ordering.

We looked at the peach I think it was - I loved all the extras with the bigger bundle tbf.

So far I've been measuring straight down the middle - have my 31 week appointment tomorrow and kinda worried a tiny bit because baby feels massive now, bump is nice and compact, I don't feel big as such, (I can still wear most of my normal clothes, like my sports leggings, long tops, jumper dresses and autumny dresses I have) but they just seem to occupy the whole space and I need to see how I can get them to leave my ribs alone, it gets so uncomfortable as the day goes on and it's only gonna get worse as they grow 🙈

I'm only just too big for my autumn/winter jackets, so come winter winter I'll be in my husbands jackets I think 😂

I have been told though, by multiple people that they were told baby was big to find they wernt and visa versa, so I'm kinda taking the results with a pinch of salt because unless it's a scan and just them measuring the womb, i guess it could be more fluid than baby? I don't get how measuring the uterus actually gives an accurate size of baby because some people carry more fluid than others 🤷‍♀️
