Did it take you longer to conceive baby number 2 compared to your first?

Quicker. First took two months, second just one actual time dtd. 😵

yogasaurus · 30/08/2023 08:48

First month, both times

mrsed1987 · 30/08/2023 08:55

5 months, first time it took 2 months but I was a few stone lighter and 5 years younger then 😂

JaffaCake123 · 30/08/2023 09:23

First time took 3 months and second time fell pregnant the first month of trying, very unexpected as I was 43!

Ttcmumma · 30/08/2023 09:25

First was a happy accident, second tried for 7 months, lost baby at 10+6, tried again for another 7 months and now 7 weeks pregnant x

Nattalie18 · 30/08/2023 09:25

2 years, for the second one. 1 month for the first!

OverTheCountryClub · 30/08/2023 09:32

Fell pregnant with dc1 first time trying. Took 8 months to conceive dc2 and 3 months with dc3.

blahblahhhh · 30/08/2023 09:33

Not long enough lol. 22 months between them.

blahblahhhh · 30/08/2023 09:34

Yes I'd say 1 month first 1 or 2 second.

NnarcissaMalfoy · 30/08/2023 09:34

Yes longer with dc2. First happened first try. Second was nearly a year of trying with a miscarriage in the middle

Spottypineapple · 30/08/2023 09:35

Longer the second time but in the grand scheme of things still very quick. Dd1 first cycle, dd2 third cycle.

We have been very lucky.

Sallyh87 · 30/08/2023 09:37

First, two months. Second, 18 months.

Ive seen a few of these threads when I was trying for number 2. It seems to be completely random. In my case, I was very tired after number 1 and wasn’t taking very good care of myself (bad diet, too much wine, not enough sleep etc). Once I started to fix that I got pregnant after about 2 months.

Retrogamer · 30/08/2023 09:38

1 month which ended up as a loss, then over 3 years to conceive again...also ended in a loss. Currently pregnant 2 months after my mmc (constantly on edge)
We had tests done and found nothing abnormal, no idea why we had the 3 year gap.

The first took 3 months only.

FoodFann · 30/08/2023 09:40

Hi OP, it took us 4 cycles with DD1, and now we’re entering cycle 10 for baby 2 and still no luck. I read a study which found that the chance is highest in your first month TTC, and depressingly, every month you don’t succeed, the slimmer the chances become. I always feel a punch in the gut when people say they conceived on their first month. But, that having had a successful pregnancy already, your chances are boosted somewhat. We’re personally looking into fertility treatment if we get to 12 months.

How long have you been trying for baby number 2?

Here’s the study I mentioned:

6 months for DC1. 4 years for DC2.

PickledScrump · 30/08/2023 12:32

First was unplanned, second first month of properly trying, third straight after coming off contraception.

Mummyme87 · 30/08/2023 12:42

1st baby totally unplanned, pregnant whilst on the pill after years and years of taking it.
2nd baby 6 cycles
3rd pregnancy was totally unplanned, stopped pill due to side effects and was about to get a coil, had sex once, didn’t think it was FW and boom, pregnant.
4th pregnancy (#3 which I’m 20weeks with) took 19months

PinkPlantCase · 30/08/2023 12:44

2nd month for the first and 3rd month for the second. Both times I tracked ovulation using LH levels from the start of TTC.

Second time I was still breastfeeding twice a day.

rainbowtea23 · 31/08/2023 20:43

First one, 9 years.

Second one, once at 4 months postpartum the first and only time not using anything since having baby number one. Never thought I’d conceive again to be honest

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/08/2023 20:48

Crikey @rainbowtea23 !!! Bet that was a busy year!

Crikey @rainbowtea23 !!! Bet that was a busy year!

Currently 27 weeks pregnant so it’s all still quite recent! I’ll be having a planned section after an emergency one last time at 37 weeks if I can get there, first came early due to preeclampsia. Should be around a week after their first birthday I hope.

TiredMotherMum · 31/08/2023 21:07

First time took one cycle but ended in a MMC.

Second took 1 exact year from MMC.

Third took 4 cycles.

Ladyoftheknight · 31/08/2023 22:43

Within 1-3 months, untracked with all 5 pregnancies. I am very lucky and will never forget it.

Hummusanddipdip · 31/08/2023 22:50

Over two years for number two. Less than number one who took 3 years.

Dyra · 31/08/2023 22:56

First pregnancy ended in miscarriage, but that, plus the time it took to conceive DC1 was 3 years (2 years MC, 11 months DC1). I was diagnosed with PCOS in this time. Was taking metformin and low dose thyroxine to assist with fertility, as well as trying to lose weight. Eventually DC1 was conceived with the help of clomid.

DC2 was a mere 5 months. As soon as we started trying, I immediately went back onto metformin. No need for thyroxine this time, but I'd heard good things about inositol, so was taking that too. I was fully expecting to need clomid again, but nope. I can only assume it was down to the inositol. I was much fatter too.
