Is this normal at 4 weeks pregnant?Help

I have had brown spotting the odd time on and off for the last week. Sore and swollen boobs and a little cramping on and off.

The spotting is usually brown. But the odd time it has a pink twinge like this, mixed with mucus.

Would this be a miscarriage?Have very strong pregnancy lines, tested again this morning.

Help needed.Photos below.

Unfortunately there's no real way to know.
Implantation bleeding is very common and happens to a lot of women.

Do you have any pain on either side?
If you experience severe pain then please get to a Dr as that's always safer.

Hao1 · 26/08/2023 21:28

No just the odd period.like cramp throughout the day. Had these today.

Maybe speak to your GP and perhaps they'll arrange an early scan, which will help clarify either way. I has this with my 1st child and it was implantation bleeding and stopped after a while. It was scary though. Hope it all works out for you Flowers

Hao1 · 26/08/2023 21:30

How early can you have scan? 6 wks? How long did your implantation bleed last?

I had fairly heavy bleeding , enough to be in the toilet bowl, with my second DC and kept convincing myself it was bad news. He's currently running round as a crazy 4 year old. Good luck!

Hao1 · 26/08/2023 21:35

Thanks for that. Very reassuring. Mine does not come out on a pad or my underwear or toilet bowl, just when I wipe at times.

Edited

Yes, it is 6 weeks; but if it is an implementation bleeding, it may well stop over next two weeks anyway.

I had a few heavy days of spotting 2 days before I did a positive test. I was so sure it was my period starting there was that much blood. Currently 15 weeks pregnant and have had no more bleeding .

Whataretheodds · 27/08/2023 07:50

It's so very early, all you can do is wait and see what happens.

LittleDoveLove · 27/08/2023 07:59

I had a big bleed of red blood at 5+1 and took what I thought was tissue to epu to test I was convinced it was a miscarriage. (I have had 3 before). They scanned and everything was fine. I had a subchronionic hematoma. Bled again twice before 6 weeks again red. That's stopped now and it's hopefully healing. I'm 8+5 now and so far everything is going as it should (I've had quite a few scans)🤞. It isn't always miscarriage x

Going to Gp tomorrow, will let ye know what they say. Had a small bit of pinky spotting again this morning, after a poo (tmi), feel it could be from the cervix 🤞 Going on 8 days on and off now (usually after bowel movements).Boobs still sore and tests getting darker (pic below).Hope that is a good sign.

Keep your fingers crossed for me x Thanks for all your thoughtful replys.

Just incase you may need to make up a back up plan. It is a bank holiday tomorrow and most GPs will be closed.

Hao1 · 27/08/2023 16:50

Thanks. In Ireland 🥰

@Hao1 I'm 4w and also have very similar spotting to you, been on off like this for a few days but pregnancy tests are also getting darker. It just makes me soooooo anxious as I have had previous chemical pregnancies. Hope your appt goes ok xx

Hao1 · 28/08/2023 16:15

So unnerving. But I have read on so many places that it is normal, unless there is clotting, bad pain and a large blood loss.Mine is becoming lighter, so hopeful that will be the end of it. So sorry about your cps. What was the difference in signs with them? Will let you know what the Dr says.

@Hao1 I’ve been reading the same thing. That’s good yours is bricking lighter, what colour is it?
I’m getting a drop of blood every few hours today so it’s definitely getting less for me today.

For my cps:

  • First CP I had a BFP at 12DPO and had heavy period bleeding with this but test kept getting darker. Bleeding stopped for a few days and I stopped testing, but when I started bleeding again 5 days later my test was a lot lighter. Lost that one at 4W5D
  • Second CP I also had period bleeding with but the line just remained faint for about 4-5 days, never got darker and then eventually went negative.

This time I got a faint positive at 8DPO and a BFP at 10DPO and tests are much darker than my previous chemicals. I don’t really have many pregnancy symptoms though other than loss of appetite. My boobs aren’t sore either so that’s worrying. And the bleeding this time is muchhhhh lighter than before. It’s mainly only been on wiping.

Ok fab, good luck at the appt hopefully gp can reassure you 🤞🏻

Gp took a urine test and said all was good etc. Said due to the length of the spotting and because I often experience it in my cycle it was probably fine. She said it is very normal in early pregnancy, with hormones etc, implantation bleeding and cervix being over sensitive. She did however send me to the early pregnancy unit. Here now. Bloods will be taken I think. I am so scared. Fingers crossed it is what she thinks and as it is not heavy or painful, that is good. She also said many women experience it in the entire first trimester. Please keep fingers crossed for me.

LacedBouquet · 28/08/2023 18:51

@Hao1 That’s definitely reassuring that she thinks it’s no problem and they’re being super thorough sending you to the EPU!
Let me know how you get on, hopefully they’ll be able to give you good news 🤞🏻

Hao1 · 29/08/2023 10:48

The 3 nurses I spoke with at the hospital echoed my GP, that it was probably normal and implantation and hormones. One nurse said my test was very strong and when dipped it came up immediately, which was a good sign. BP good. One thought it was ridiculous I was sent it,as it is a normal part of pregnancy in her view. Others said best to check. Dr did an internal-all normal. Dot of blood on spetulum-she said very insignificant. She stated the obvious, that as it was too early to scan only the beta blood test could give us an indication at the early stage, if the pregnancy was progressing as a healthy one. Took my blood and will get a call this evening with my levels of ECG. Back in Wednesday night for the second test. Hopefully will be good news. No spotting so far today. How are you doing?

LacedBouquet · 29/08/2023 11:07

Hey @Hao1 ! Thanks so much for the update, that’s fantastic news for you and that your HCG is super positive. Could be twins as I know people are more likely to bleed with twins?
That’s great you haven’t spotted today.

My spotting has completely stopped and I’m back to that excess watery discharge you can get in early pregnancy. Keep thinking I’m bleeding 🤣 Had nausea and an upset tummy this morning so thinking a good sign?

Haven’t taken any further tests and don’t plan to for now as I think I’ll just stress myself out. Main thing is no further spotting! TMI but I didn’t spot either when I had sex last night which is a good thing 🙏

Maybe we are just in that 25% of people who do get bleeding in early pregnancy xx

Hao1 · 30/08/2023 21:11

Update. Still spotting. Getting second set of bloods today. First set measured Hcg at 1200. Midwife said good news. But feels I am further along than I think, by at least 2/3 wks. Booked in for a scan also on Friday. Please keep everything crossed for me xxx

LacedBouquet · 30/08/2023 23:19

@Hao1 what colour is your spotting? I had another tiny little bit today of brown discharge spotting. But then it went back to clear discharge.
Thats also great if you’re 2-3 weeks further along than you think, all is sounding good! Got my fingers and toes crossed for you xx
