Regular spotters ... did it continue into the second trimester?

Wondering if I am just being a worrier or I should push for another check. Currently 14+2 .

Had spotting in my first trimester a few times each week. Very light and pink . Just lasted a few wipes on tissue each time and never really went on for longer than an hour really. Never in my pants etc.

I got an extra check at week 9 because of this and had good scans week 7 then week 12+4. Always been fine. No reason found for bleeding. Cervix looked healthy.

It's now continued into my second trimester and worry has crept back in as I thought it may have stopped by now.

Just looking for stories of others who had spotting that continued into second trimester?

Hi,
With my daughter, I had bleeding during my first, second and third trimester and everything was completely fine. They couldn’t find anything wrong. I was in and out of hospital every 2 weeks because it had me worried. If you feel like you need to get checked then go, the midwives will always advise you to go if you’re concerned about it. That’s what they did with me.
im sure everything will be okay!x

I've had spotting all the way through this pregnancy. 20 week scan showed low-lying placenta which explains why I've had this pregnancy, but not others. It usually moves up apparently (although mine hasn't yet at 30 weeks).

Kalodin · 20/08/2023 13:17

Hey, bit of an usual one but have you had any swab tests? I find thrush makes me spot in pregnancy

Mangotango39 · 20/08/2023 13:44

@Beth24688 I called the Epu again and spoke to doctor a week before my 12 week can (which was about 12+4) and she wasn't concerned and said everything had looked fine before. Then obviously scan just over 2 weeks ago was fine to but it is so hard to see when it happens. I never want to waste resources or make a fuss over nothing!

@3rdtimemumma oh maybe that's what I have??? 20 week scan could be telling then!

@Kalodin yes been swabbed twice . Around 5 weeks then about at 9+2. All fine :/

we go on holiday Friday so thinking I'll book a reassurance private scan on my return day after . Will be around 16+2 x

Honestly I felt exactly the same and it worried me, they couldn’t find anywhere the bleeding could have come from but baby came and she was perfectly fine!, they told me that it happens to a lot of women and it’s all perfectly normal. Don’t be scared of wasting resources! It’s better to be safe and if it puts you at ease you’re better off going than not

We are both on the February thread and I think have similar due dates. I've been having very similar - on my third episode of spotting - the first two lasted about a couple of weeks each. They've never been able to find anything and scans have been fine so I'm hoping that all is OK, but I am also anxious as you are always told it's quite common in the first trimester but that has left me a bit worried entering the second. Feeling reassured though that the doctors don't seem worried. Following this thread with interest as it's good to hear the experience of others further along who have experienced this.

3rdtimemumma · 20/08/2023 16:36

Yes, I've phoned up a few times and was reassured before my 20 week scan, keep phoning and dont worry about wasting anyone's time. Since finding the low-lying placenta, they've said to just keep coming back in if bleeding is heavier and they've re-scanned me to check placenta blood flow etc. It's so reassuring and takes the worry out of it all.

Bournetilly · 20/08/2023 16:38

It stopped around 15 weeks for me, not sure of the cause but it started around 5 weeks. I didn’t have spotting with my first so it was worrying.

LeopardLover · 20/08/2023 16:51

It's so reassuring reading the positive stories, because I've been spotting and I'm over it already 😅 heading to the EPU tomorrow for my third scan 😴 (first trimester here)

Beth24688 · 20/08/2023 17:28

my midwife and my consultant both said the bleeding was fine, as long as it’s not heavy and filling a pad it’s completely normal.
mine seemed to happen everytime I was due on my period and would last a week or more, which really worried me but it was nice having the support and when they did scans they would talk me through it and basically just said there’s no cause that they could find to show bleeding. I’d contact my midwife when I did start bleeding and she’d book me in for a scan straight away to make sure. It was really helpful.

Mangotango39 · 21/08/2023 06:14

Thanks all for sharing your stories - it's comforting to know others have been in a similar situation . It's just tough cause you kind of assume blood is bad so dealing with it repeatedly is difficult!
happy to keep discussing how we all go - hopefully beautiful healthy happy babies!

I have had a banging headache since last night so can only just look at my phone now and it's still bloody lingering!

Spotted tiny amounts daily since my last post. It's getting to my head and I am terribly anxious again!

I was on a high after my 12 week scan (15 weeks tomorrow).
Have booked a private the day after we are back from holidays when I'll be 16+2 . Really need it but going to try enjoy my rest and time away x

Ahhh sorry to hear this. I found this really stressful too and calmed down a lot once i could feel the baby moving more. I replied to you before as this is my third pregnancy and I've not had this on the other 2, diagnosed with low-lying placenta at 20 week scan. I'm now 30 weeks and daily spotting stopped 1 week ago now and placenta moved exact same time we think. 2 more scans to check but almost clear for vaginal birth. But weeks 15-20 stressed me out the most with the bleeding because there wasn't a huge amount of support. Keep asking for support. I wish I'd asked for more at that time. Also, after 20 week scan I was told to ask for re-scan at every bleed. This was also tricky because I bled daily so I just went in when it was significantly heavier. But consultant and ultrasound lady told me bleeding is very common, but never normal. So keep phoning and get extra scans if you need them. Also, I stopped running. If you are older or have had ivf, you're more likely to have a low-lying placenta.

Mangotango39 · 27/08/2023 00:32

@3rdtimemumma thanks so much for sharing.

I am only 29 so not considered old and no ivf. I have had two mc and last was d&c . I wondered if my cervix was super sensitive. I am slightly overweight though.

I have my first antenatal appointment the 4th (they do things abit different where I live) and the private scan day before. Definitely think I shall be pushing it a lot more as definitely get fobbed off in these earlier stages and I understand it's because there's nothing they can do really.

so far, other then this I am having a quite easy pregnancy with no sickness and minimal other symptoms. So the first tri was even more worrying as I thought I should be sick like everyone else (stupid I know!)

no spotting yesterday woohoo !

Hiya, sorry you’re going through this worry. I’m 15 weeks now and still regularly spotting (multiple times a week) had all scans and checks so personally choosing to just roll with it and will only get checked again if it ever lasts longer (so far so good). Best wishes!

Mangotango39 · 28/08/2023 10:35

@ApparentlyGeriatric glad I am not alone! Seems to have stopped for a few days now so it's giving me some peace .
looking forward to my private scan end of week x

I am at the airport now to fly home (delayed - typical) and a bleed has started heavier then my usual spotting. I am terrified. If it cornices I will go to hospital tonight as I am over 16 weeks.
I do have a private scan tomorrow and a midwife appointment Monday thankfully.

tmi images attached.

so so worried. Has anyone had a bleed like this?
😣

I'd say defo suggest calling maternity and asking them for an urgent scan, they will want to know about any red bleeding. Hopefully will just be nothing as spotting has been the norm for you so far x

Mangotango39 · 02/09/2023 09:08

@maria2bela1 I have called them once before the early pregnancy unit and they weren't concerned at all - I'm a lot further now though. But they arnt open weekends the early team 😥its a short flight we are just boarding now (3.5 hours) so will go to hospital if continued .

I do feel this is heavier then it has been before.

maria2bela1 · 02/09/2023 09:29

Sometimes they can give you a quick scan in A&E, I've had this done before. But call the labour ward first and get some advice from them.

Anotheranxiousone · 02/09/2023 11:19

Do you get any cramps or just bleeding? X

MrsW9 · 02/09/2023 11:49

Fingers crossed for you. I also had an atypical red bleed this week and all was OK on the scan so I hope it is the same for you. I totally understand the anxiety. Does your EPU redirect/say where to call if out of hours?

Mangotango39 · 02/09/2023 13:26

@Anotheranxiousone no cramps at all - not even a twinge. Bleeding still ongoing but much lighter x

@maria2bela1 id previously told birth suite (in my country) was for over 20 weeks :/

@MrsW9 no advice given what to do out of hours. Did you go to a&e for it ? X

OP posts:
MrsW9 · 02/09/2023 14:24

I was able to ring when the EPU opened a few hours after the bleeding started and was given an appointment for a scan a couple of days later. Hope all goes ok for you!

Mangotango39 · 02/09/2023 14:38

@MrsW9 i have a private scan tomorrow and Antenatal appointment Monday , that's why I'm thinking should I head to a&e or wait. I just get so stuck and don't want them to think I am nuts!
