Hope everyone is doing well today. I'm 7 + 3 and my nausea/food aversions are back a bit, couldn't stomach coffee again this morning. Finding the warm weather makes me feel a little worse!

Is anyone else planning to get a private NIPT test? I know it's expensive. I had it in my first pregnancy and it gave me a lot of peace of mind (I'm from the US and there it's just kind of standard, seems odd that it's not offered here in the UK so I was ok with paying for it as I'm almost 40).

Misty84 · 05/09/2023 10:21

Morning @WolfMother326. I’ve been offered that test at week 11. I’m in the UK, aged 39, I didn’t realise it wasn’t offered to everyone here, in which case it’s just because I’m with the recurrent miscarriage clinic. They are giving me extra scans etc, which I didn’t get the first time, and I’m on a specific treatment plan with them.

I have some food aversions- mainly cheese which was previously my favourite! Even opening the fridge makes me feel nauseous 🙃 I’m 8+3 today.

BVIre · 05/09/2023 10:29

Going to jump into the confusion of the booking appointment/first scan- all I did was a self referral form to the hospital so haven’t actually spoke to a midwife yet! My first appointment on the letter they sent I’ll be around 11+5 & it’s told me to come with a full bladder? Can’t think why they would ask that if they’re not going to scan me?

Misty84 · 05/09/2023 11:14

Maybe it’s because you’ll be pretty much 12 weeks by then @BVIre so they’re doing both at once?

BVIre · 05/09/2023 11:17

@Misty84 yes you’re right! Just went and hoked out my letter & it actually says I’ll be scanned on it lol! They must not do like an early booking appointment in my area & just do it all in one! To be fair they did send us out a really detailed form we had to send back with all our info so maybe that’s all the needed from us before the 12 weeks!

Misty84 · 05/09/2023 11:22

Ah that’s good @BVIre 😊 and makes sense if you’ve already done a detailed form!

Noodles4Me · 05/09/2023 12:43

I’ve booked for NIPT when I’ll be 11+5. Since I’m only seeing midwife when 11+3 it doesn’t look like I’ll get an NHS scan til late - despite being high risk 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wonder if I should chase them and get something booked as midwife won’t be scanning me, they don’t have facilities there.

I got NIPT last time and I like the better accuracy plus finding out the sex!

WolfMother326 · 05/09/2023 13:05

@Noodles4Me yes you should probably chase it. Are you high risk due to age or another factor?

I also got the NIPT last time and it was helpful. I appreciated the accuracy. I'm going to book it for exactly 10 weeks.

I just got my booking appointment for 18 Sept, will be 9+3 and they said on the phone that they'll make the 12 week scan appt after that.

Pinkstuffs · 05/09/2023 13:57

I’m 7+2 today, I’ve had awful nausea since the back end of last week. No vomiting but a lot of horrible dry heaving, cleaning my teeth really sets it off strangely. Drinking lots of ginger tea and diet ginger beer and eating crackers!

Janeykat · 05/09/2023 14:06

Im 7+1 today and went to EPU for reasurrance scan after 2 miscarriages this year. They could see the baby and it measured 6+4 and they said they could see a heartbeat which is positive. But they also said my womb looked "irregular"-- there is a big bulge in my womb above the baby and she said that she didnt know what it was and that it wasnt something they generally see. I have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan but I am feeling less than reassured:( also whatever the bulge/lump was, it wasnt there in June after my miscarriage so Im very confused and nervous.

Noodles4Me · 05/09/2023 14:52

@WolfMother326 yes my age. But also because of a new, potentially pregnancy related fibroid.

I’ll try not worry. At least the NIPT will hopefully provide insight and reassurance. I’m gonna chase up NHS though. Last time I was seen at 8 weeks by midwife and got scan date in the post soon after so no idea what’s changed?!

CinderRosie · 05/09/2023 15:43

I have been debating the NIPT @WolfMother326 , I turned 37 in July and just not sure. It is so expensive and only tests for 3 conditions so I just don't know what to do.

WolfMother326 · 05/09/2023 17:01

@CinderRosie I don't think it's really necessary. I've done it more from my partner's desire to get the test. You can just wait for the combined test at the 12 week scan, and if you get a high probabilty result they'll probably offer you the NIPT test anyway.

Bugdem123 · 05/09/2023 17:07

My husband and I discussed the possibility of getting an NIPT privately the other day but I think we're going to wait and see the outcome of the combined test first.

How is everyone feeling? I'm 7+6 today and feel like I've been hit by a bus.

sugarplum33 · 05/09/2023 18:33

@Janeykat Bless you, you've probably come out of today with more questions than answers. It's great news about the baby though and hopefully whatever they have seen today is harmless.

@Bugdem123 Sorry you're not feeling great. I'm feeling pretty ropey too at 7+3. Mostly it's been worse in the afternoons/evenings but today I was most icky in the morning. @CinderRosie was it you who said each day your nausea hits at a different time?

Anyone else got an early case of baby brain? I set the smoke alarms off forgetting I was toasting bread and found a half cooked jacket potato in the microwave I'd forgotten about 🤣

ASGIRC · 05/09/2023 19:22

@Bugdem123 When I hit 9 weeks, on friday, I thought my symptoms had eased. I was pleased, but also worried... I shouldnt have...
Yesterday the nausea started to hit like no ones business!
Feeling quite a bit nauseated today as well.

Joys!!

@sugarplum33 cant say Ive experienced baby brain, yet! 😂

CB23CB · 05/09/2023 19:45

Hey everyone,
What our peoples thoughts about the flu jab?
I'm eligible through my job but don't ever really take it up. This time though?

ASGIRC · 05/09/2023 19:50

@CB23CB personally, Ive never had it and I dont think Ill be getting it.
Unless my doctors really insist on it.
I don remember the last time I had the flu, it was that long ago!

sugarplum33 · 05/09/2023 20:02

@CB23CB It's one of the vaccines recommended by the NHS to have in pregnancy because pregnant women are more likely to catch flu and then more likely to become seriously unwell with it. I don't get it normally but definitely will be this year.

hopefulmum46 · 05/09/2023 20:14

@CB23CB I've paid for the flu jab the last few years, I had flu in Jan 2019 and it was awful so I decided to have the vaccine after that. Previously I'd just thought of flu like a bad cold (it really wasn't!). So I'll definitely be getting it now it's going to be free.

Does anyone know if we'll be eligible for a covid autumn booster? I can't find definitive information anywhere and I forgot to ask my midwife today.

Greenvelvetdress · 05/09/2023 20:22

I'll be having the flu jab, I usually have it for work anyway as I work with vulnerable children so have to.

I think we will be eligible for the COVID vaccine but I'm not 100% sure on whether to have it or not... Interested to hear what others say

Ttcmumma · 05/09/2023 20:32

I will be taking the flu jab, I did with my son and all was fine however the COVID jab definitely not. Someone who works in the lab in Pfizer personally told me not to 🤦🏼‍♀️. I also found with my initial two jabs (not pregnant) my periods became 3 weeks out of 4 every month and my prolactin levels raised ridiculously. I not too long after suffered my first ever miscarriage. I'm certain the periods were caused by the jabs as the timings were too immaculate after both jabs, almost certain the prolactin issue was this too. Can never know about the miscarriage as it may have just been bad luck but it does make me wonder! Seeing as the COVID jabs previously messed up my reproductive cycle and hormones so much I definitely won't be risking it during pregnancy. I've actually just got over COVID during pregnancy anyway and besides 24 hours of feeling shit and extra fatigue it's not been too bad anyway x

Poppins2016 · 05/09/2023 20:38

@hopefulmum46@Greenvelvetdress

I asked my midwife about the covid vaccination and apparently it was offered as "standard" to pregnant women but has now been withdrawn, so you'll only receive it during pregnancy if you're eligible on the NHS for other reasons (i.e pre-existing vulnerability). Have to admit I'm not too impressed about this information, especially as there's no choice to pay to get it privately, so you're just at the mercy of the powers that be even though covid is still around! I received the covid vaccination during my last pregnancy (before it was "standard" issue - it was part of the routine offering in 2021) and would have happily accepted it this time round.
(Aside from the risk that covid poses during late pregnancy, I also don't fancy getting it again.... I've had covid, then long covid, twice and hadn't even recovered from the first round of long covid before I caught it again... it was utterly horrendous).

I'm booked in to receive the flu vaccine in a couple of weeks time (I'm eligible for one due to asthma) and wouldn't ever hesitate during pregnancy (or otherwise).

Pinkstuffs · 05/09/2023 21:02

I’ll definitely be getting the flu jab. I’m not sure about the covid jab. The last booster I had made me feel so ill for days, I was very sick and had to take time off work. I’ve read quite a few bad stories about it and miscarriage.

Bluesky85 · 05/09/2023 21:06

I had my booking in appointment today and she recommended the whooping cough vaccine and the flu vaccine. She said she wasn’t sure on latest roll out of covid vaccine. I think I will get the flu vaccine and the whooping cough one as they have been around for a while and feel quite tired and tested. Not sure about Covid, I’m sure it’s fine but something is holding me back for some reason!
