I couldn't find a new thread open as the old is now full.

Got a few of the usernames to tag, definitely missed people but hopefully they find the thread :)

@Psqueak87 these babies are so different for hiccups! My first had them several times a day and they were gentle, my DH felt them once. This baby is every few days and super strong, my belly shakes!

I used maternity pads and cheap primark granny knickers last time and just binned them in the first few days. Vaginal birth, I'm hoping for the same. My consultant appointment is next week, looking positive.

Sorry I’ve not kept up with thread but @JoyApple check with your hospital, but I think 1 night after section is pretty standard a lot of places now, maybe 2 if it’s your first baby. Last time I packed my hospital bag for 24hrs, and then kept a second bag in the car boot with extra clothes for me and the baby, another packet of nappies etc, so DH would’ve been able to bring in more of anything I needed when he was visiting anyway. Obviously not so good if you don’t have car, but still might be worth having an overflow bag at home so you don’t have to take so much initially. I was discharged late (about 10pm) the day after my section, despite having passed out earlier in the day, so they were pretty keen to get rid of me and I was equally desperate to get out of there. Hopefully your hospital is not as busy as mine though. Oh and I wasn’t allowed dressing gown for going to theatre (they gave me a second gown), but did get in trouble for not having slippers which hadn’t occurred to me, so I think it’s different everywhere, but they also grump at you if you take too much stuff so you can’t win!

reememberly · 23/09/2023 14:44

Did you make it home @GreenAventurinee? Sorry if I missed an update. And hope you got in and out again ok the other day @Spareincoming?

reememberly · 23/09/2023 14:50

And I have never noticed anything which I could identify as hiccups in any pregnancy including this one!? Always been a mystery to me!

Psqueak87 · 23/09/2023 15:35

@LilmissCa I’ve been reading a book about hypno birthing, and my work colleague lent me her notes from when she did a course on it. Unfortunately there are no in person courses anywhere near me (nearest I could find was 10 hour drive away in Vancouver, lol) so can’t do an in person one.

thanks for all the hiccup stories. I’m sure she’s hiccuping away in there and I just can’t feel it.

CliniMama · 23/09/2023 18:04

Hi @Psqueak87,
If you want someone have you looked into virtual classes?
I’m just doing the Positive Birth - Hypnobirthing Pack but I think they might offer virtual courses too.

PinkPlantCase · 23/09/2023 18:11

I read the positive birth hypno birthing book last time and that was really good.

Psqueak87 · 23/09/2023 19:26

@CliniMama I haven’t looked into online classes, but I think I will now that work is slowing down in the next 2 weeks.

question for anyone who’s had babies before? Do you stick to one brand of nappies? I bought a couple of packs of pampers size 1 a few weeks ago when there was a sweet deal on them. This week I found a sweet deal on newborn Huggies, so I bought a couple of packs of those…

Oreopie · 23/09/2023 19:30

Just wondering whether anyone is starting things like eating dates, raspberry leaf tea, pineapple etc and what they do, and when you should start it? I'll be 34 weeks on Monday 😊

JD90 · 23/09/2023 19:40

@Psqueak87 nope on the stocking up on huge amounts of one kind of nappy. Different nappies fit differently and much like us every baby is different. I've got 3 or 4 different brands, one pack of each and will see which fit bub the best when she is here. Though I have zero intention of using pampers outside the few free packs I have when they are 4x the cost of other brands!

Psqueak87 · 23/09/2023 20:03

@Oreopie I don’t think any of those things induce labour, they are just said strengthen your uterus for child birth…so I believe. So I don’t think there’s any danger in starting early.

I have been drinking raspberry leaf tea since about 30 weeks. I find it’s tastiest if I make a big jug - stick it in the fridge, then add some cranberry juice or blackcurrant squash when I pour myself a cup.

I have eaten dates throughout pregnancy as I genuinely like them. I either fill with peanut butter or I put them in smoothies.

Pineapple I was eating at the start before I read that you shouldn’t…so I did stop, but started again at 30 weeks. I eat a fruit salad of pineapple and melon most days.

I also started taking evening primrose tablets every day last week (33 weeks).

Again, who knows if it actually does anything. But most of the above are delicious so I don’t mind buying and eating it.

Spareincoming · 23/09/2023 20:35

Thanks for asking after me @reememberly, I did get in and out on the same day but not until 8pm as one consultant wanted me to do overnight monitoring again, then the other 2 didn’t and they wanted my bed so out I was kicked!

I was most grateful to be out and may have done a significant detour to pick up a Dominos pizza, which is just about illegal due to my gestational diabetes… I even did a quick stomp around the dog walk route straight after to get my sugars low… they were just low enough… it was worth it!!!

LilmissCa · 23/09/2023 22:21

@Psqueak87 def check out online classes or as @CliniMama mentioned the positive birth company pack. I used this last time. It was really good.
I think I'm benefiting more from in person this time as it's my 3rd baby & it's giving me a few hours a week to focus on the baby.
You could also YouTube some meditations to get started in addition to the book.

reememberly · 24/09/2023 08:51

@Spareincoming Dominos must’ve tasted amazing after a day like that and was well-earned!

Psqueak87 · 24/09/2023 15:55

More questions from a clueless FTM! I’m trying to book flights home from Canada to the UK next year using my points! I found a sweet deal on business class, 60k points instead of the usual 200k points, but it would mean spending 23 hour layover in Montreal.
if it was just me and my partner I would love this; we arrive in at 10pm and fly out the following day at 9pm.

my plan would be to get a taxi straight to a downtown hotel (20 mins from airport) sleep for the night and then spend the next day in Montreal site seeing before taxiing back to the airport.

baby will be 10 months old at that point.
is this doable? I asked on the Montreal Reddit forum if a morning and afternoon in Montreal was enough time to do some site seeing and the general consensus was that I have no idea how exhausting a 10 month old is and to just stay at an airport hotel and relax all day.

i have to book this far in advance with points as I’ll never get a deal like this closer to the time!

am I delusional? I’m assuming it depends on what kinda baby I get. But in general?

Thack · 24/09/2023 16:25

@Psqueak87 for the saving, that's a deal to be taken!
I'd go for the hotel and see what you have energy for once you are there.
I've not travelled with my toddler, but the thought of being stuck in an airport for hours sounds worse to me.

Psqueak87 · 24/09/2023 17:25

@Thack thank you. Yeah, I think we will just take the plunge and book it, we will put off booking the hotel until closer to the time, and if we have a well sleeping baby we will consider a hotel downtown, if not we will just get a hotel at the airport and camp out in the airport hotel for the 20+ hours.

Spareincoming · 24/09/2023 19:14

@Psqueak87 do it! Lay overs are so much easier pre-12 months/mobile and mouthy! We did 32 hours in Singapore with the first DC aged 11 months!

Travellingislife · 24/09/2023 19:31

@Psqueak87 I would definitely do it! I always pick night flights for longer hauls and it’s been working well. However I would make sure I had a hotel room available until I’d have to leave for the airport, it could be very tiring being on the go all day when you have a 10 month old, still doable but you may ending up being exhausted.

JoyApple · 24/09/2023 22:49

Oreopie · 23/09/2023 19:30

Just wondering whether anyone is starting things like eating dates, raspberry leaf tea, pineapple etc and what they do, and when you should start it? I'll be 34 weeks on Monday 😊

I've been thinking about this too. Last time round I did 6 dates per day and raspberry leaf tea.

However this time round I'm most likely down for an elective C-section, so I don't think I should be doing it incase it makes me go into labour early?

DollyGx · 25/09/2023 00:07

@JoyApple did you find it made any difference to your labour? I think I’m going to start soon, worth a try!

Psqueak87 · 25/09/2023 04:44

@Travellingislife @Spareincoming thanks so much! I just booked it. Hard to say no to business class the whole way for the usual price of an economy ticket! Although I’m hoping I don’t ruin everyone else’s business class experience!

LeeanneD11 · 25/09/2023 07:47

Is anyone else 31 weeks. Or when they was 31 weeks, I would like some advice or if this has happened for others and experienced it I know everyone is different

But the last couple of days since last Thursday. I've had bad pressure in the lower tummy pelvic area and serve back ache , and very bad stomach cramps and tightenings and very loose stools but my stomach goes funny like really funny like I need to run to the toilet or I need to push lol , I've not lost any of mucus plug or anything else but I just want to know if normal, sorry for the tmi this is my 3rd baby and I don't remember having any of this before xx

WriMum22 · 25/09/2023 07:49

@LeeanneD11 im 32 weeks but did have this last week and week before. I even went to triage and was tested for pre-term Labour but all came back negative luckily. I think it’s just our bodies getting ready as we enter the final stages. I’ve definitely noticed looser stools and lots more watery discharge this last week or so
