Did you tell them straight away or wait a little while? Did you make a big thing or it or just tell them?

Walked out of the bathroom holding the test and said "I'm pregnant". He was having a rant about car insurance but that stopped him in his tracks!

FizzyFlamingo · 06/08/2023 17:44

First time I showed him the pregnancy test as soon as I came out the bathroom. Second time I told my husband before I did the test that I felt I was pregnant so I did the test and we sat and waited together before turning it over to see.

Whataretheodds · 06/08/2023 17:48

When I came out of the bathroom.

I don't believe in dramatic announcements early in pregnancy. I've had 2 MCs so I'd feel silly. There's no less joy and emotion in simplicity.

ChoresSuck · 06/08/2023 17:52

He was in the bedroom when I took the test in the bathroom. It was a cheep one. I was moaning at him that it was negative again and he put it against a white letter and it was actually very faint positive.

Mushroo · 06/08/2023 17:56

We were going to the pub so I said I’d take a test before we headed out.

I took the test in the bathroom, he was finishing some work on the PC.

I came out the bathroom, announced I thought I might be pregnant and we both spent 5 mins squinting at the worlds faintest line. Agreed there might be something there so I probably shouldn’t drink.

No big announcement whatsoever!

Stormyforcast · 06/08/2023 17:59

Told him when I did the test.
I don't see the point in big announcements.
It's just social media mumbo crap (imho)

Mutabiliss · 06/08/2023 18:01

I walked out of the bathroom and showed him the test. Why on earth would anyone wait?!

VikingLady · 06/08/2023 18:02

DD he was there when I did the test. We were actively ttc.

DS I took the test on my own, bought a teeny tiny newborn fancy dress babygro he'd love, and told him by handing it to him.

Likeaburstcouch · 06/08/2023 18:03

First time by shouting 'oh f**k' from the bathroom.
Second time the line was so faint that I thought I was being crazy so i waited a few days, got a slightly more apparent line and told him while he was eating breakfast.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 06/08/2023 18:07

First was official test day from ivf so he just waited for me to say yay or nay

Second was natural conception and I waved it in his face

Aparecium · 06/08/2023 18:08

I did the test at work and phoned him immediately. I had to be cryptic because I didn't want my colleagues to know yet. But dh does not understand cryptic or subtle 😂

WantingToEducate · 06/08/2023 18:12

Baby number 1: I’d got a faint line on a cheap test whilst my husband was playing cricket. I drove to the cricket ground, and thankfully he was fielding at the time and I just ran up to him full of excitement and screamed at him that I was pregnant.

Baby number 2: I told him very hesitantly about a week after I’d found out because I wasn’t sure how he’d take the news.

WoolyMammoth55 · 06/08/2023 18:13

We were trying so no big surprise! Got the tests and he was waiting when I peed on one.

There was no 'announcing' moment either time, that seems weird to me!

AnotherWrinkle · 06/08/2023 18:13

1st pregnancy we worked together and after puking that morning we stopped at a chemist on the way to the office for a test. I did it in the loos at work and text him that he was going to be a dad. Then I rolled up
to my desk and tried to make it through the day whilst being sick about six times.

Second time we'd been ttc for a while I didn't think we'd been successful that month because I felt like my period was about to arrive but could resist poas. Left it on the sink and went to get dressed, DH went in and saw it was positive and wondered why I hadn't mentioned. I hadn't actually looked at the result 😂

Peony654 · 06/08/2023 18:15

I woke up earlier and did the test, then woke him up to tell him. I couldn’t imagine waiting, and no idea why you’d do a big thing.

TheBeesKnee · 06/08/2023 18:17

We were trying for a long time, so I wanted to do something special to tell him, but when it did happen I was totally caught off guard. One random day my boobs hurt at the gym and he was at work. I came home, did a test, it was positive, and I was so stunned that I laid down on the bed in shock.

He came home shortly after that, walked into our bedroom going on about increasing the dose of some supplements he was on and I just said "there's no need" and showed him the test.

He laid down next to, equally shocked.

PurBal · 06/08/2023 18:23

DC1 I was pacing around after taking a test on the off chance one evening (thinking it would be negative). I wanted to wait for FMU to make sure but DH wondered why I was pacing. DC2 took a cheap test, showed DH it was positive. Then he asked “are you sure, it’s very faint” 😂

Italianasoitis · 06/08/2023 18:24

First two times I just told him and he was quite matter of fact about it.

When we were ttc our third I found a tiny white baby gro and was going to write something on it if I got pregnant.

What happened was that I did a test, shouted lots of shocked expletives from the bathroom and he asked 'What's up? One of the kids left a turd in the toilet and not flushed it?'. I showed him the test and he looked at it blankly.

'Two lines means pregnant!'

'Oh, good stuff!' He said. That was it!

Nelbert19 · 06/08/2023 19:25

First time, I couldn’t sleep and suddenly thought I should do a test. It was positive so I went and jumped on my sleeping husband to tell him and then neither of us could sleep 😅

second time, we’d been TTC for two years and were due to start our first cycle of IVF after my period came. I was slightly unhinged by this time so did a test 9 days before period due (🤦🏻‍♀️) and there was a faint positive!

We’d had a few losses and he was in a stinking mood that week, so I kept it to myself for a week while watching the line progress. Thought I was going to burst! Finally, I placed a positive test on his desk (WFH) - that cleared his bad mood!

Caitlin991 · 06/08/2023 19:43

First time, I told him as soon as I found out. Second time he had a really important interview coming up, so I kept it to myself for a while, and then told him the second he got back from his interview 😂 (thankfully he was happy that I’d kept it to myself for a bit)

UnaVaca · 06/08/2023 19:45

We had been trying so the day after my period was late it wasn’t that shocking, just did a test together.

Bellabeemarie · 06/08/2023 20:04

We had been ttc for 2+ years, I've got pcos and I was soooo excited when I got my bfp, I managed to keep it from him the day I found out and went out and put this box together for him the following day, when he got home from work I shouted him up stairs and told him I had a present for him and it shut the door and lock it ( incase kids come in 😂😂) he got giddy thinking it was sexy time hahahahaha he opened it and was sooooo shocked and happy it was the best. I dont know how I didnt tell them the second I found out but I always planned on telling him this way over the long period of time It took us to get a bfp i use to day dream about it lol and it was as amazing as i always pictured lol so glad i recorded it so we can look back on it ❤

When and how did you tell your DP you were pregnant?
Sagittarius25 · 06/08/2023 20:06

He was sleeping in the spare room because he was ill with the worst cough, he knew I was going to test that morning so I walked into the room at 6:30am in the pitch black and just said 'I think I'm pregnant' 😂

That's cute :)

I was actually on holiday with some friends when I took a test, I felt really nauseous and just had a niggle that I should test before going out drinking- I didn't expect it to be positive though! My friends were in the bathroom with me and I told them, wasn't sure what to do with regard to telling DH- I wanted him to know as soon as possible of course but didn't really want to do it over the phone wanted to do it in person. As it went I just couldn't keep it from him, I did a video call and he was so excited, thankfully wasn't long before the end of the holiday and the hug when he picked us up from the airport was so special! We celebrated ourselves after that but to be honest it was nice also having time with my friends to help process the shock.
