@Summer022 honestly, last time I slept far better with a newborn than I did in pregnancy! And you do sleep again, my little one is nearly 3 now and has slept through pretty consistently from 13 months. I know 13 months sounds like a long time but it’s not in the grand scheme of things!

kingfisher168 · 12/09/2023 12:29

Oh absolutely, you have to make it your own, I mainly found the physiology chapters and breathing techniques very helpful, I'm not planning on doing much of the affirmations etc, but some people might see the benefit.

Counting down now, wondering who is going to be first 🙂

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/09/2023 13:21

@OrionNebula good luck! Do let us know how it goes!

LaVitesse2022 · 12/09/2023 14:55

@OrionNebula good luck for Tuesday! 🙏🏻 Hope it all goes well and smoothly.

I'm also planning to do the hypnobirthing course that came with my antenatal classes. Just waiting to wrap up work in 10 days' time. I'm usually not a fan of yoga but honestly it's been the thing I most enjoy doing this pregnancy exercise-wise. So I really recommend people keeping an open mind with these sort of more "hippy" stuff - different things serve us at different points in our lives ;)

VanillaOat · 12/09/2023 15:45

@kingfisher168 I’m doing the PBC hypnobirthing course and I absolutely love it! I feel exactly the same in terms of not viewing labour negatively and I really am excited, however I will say that the course has totally put me off having an induction of any sort 😂, so I think I will be disappointed if I get to that stage which I’m not sure is massively helpful!

doeandfawn · 12/09/2023 16:23

@VanillaOat absolutely the same, the thought of induction terrifies me.

OrionNebula · 12/09/2023 16:31

Thanks everyone. I will let you know how I get on.

ttcttc · 12/09/2023 16:52

I've seen the midwife today, I'm 34 weeks and baby is measuring about 33 but she's not concerned. If it's dropped off again she will refer me when I see her in a fortnight for a scan but fingers crossed all is okay.
Baby is 3/5 engaged and in the right position. I panicked a bit because it says online baby will come in 2-4 weeks but after more reading (Mumsnet) lots of babies just get into position early and stay there.
Anyone similar ?

kingfisher168 · 12/09/2023 16:55

@VanillaOat and @doeandfawn here's to daily walks uphill, lots of raspberry leaf tea, curry and some hanky panky to get those babies out after week 37 and ideally by week 40 so no induction needed!

Chanteuse · 12/09/2023 17:04

@OrionNebula hope it goes well for you!
@ttcttc my baby has been head down since at least 28 weeks and he’s not here yet at 36+2!

I’ve been booked in for a c-section. Weighed up my options/risks with him predicted to be so large I’ve decided that’s the best option for me as I don’t want to be induced nor do I want forceps/ventouse. Feeling positive about it tbh because the consultant was very supportive of all options, was definitely a validating experience! 🥰

@ttcttc my little one was head down quite early on but I had a scan yesterday at 35+3 which revealed she was now breech with her legs extended at the bottom. I wasn't expecting that. I didn't think there's be room for her to move. It's not a worry anyway as I'm booked for a c-section on the 6th October. It'll be my second and last one.

@OrionNebula Hope all goes well!

katherine123x · 12/09/2023 17:22

Now high risk here. Baby measuring over 100th at 35 weeks. Also too much fluid so now have to be consultant lead and in the Labour suite. More tests and scans here. So uncomfortable. Basically ran out room. Got to do another glucose test this week in case ... anyone had another and been positive for it? Had it 24 weeks and was fine.

amiold · 12/09/2023 17:27

Yeah I knew baby was head down from my private scan at 27 week (although could move) I just didn't expect to be 3/5 engaged

peonygirl · 12/09/2023 17:40

@ttcttc and @amiold my friend had her baby 3/5 engaged for several weeks and went 7 days over her due date! So I wouldn't worry they'll come anytime soon just because they have dropped, they are just in the right position.

@katherine123x you can get GD after you tested negative because it is your body's response to the stress of pregnancy and is often hormone dependent. I'd suggest you ask for a test kit and do finger pricking because you can measure fasting levels and post-meal levels. It is faster and easier than the glucose test (in my opinion and I am not a fan of needles). I would also say don't worry if you do test positive, you can tailor food to help your baby and yourself, it is not all medicated. But it is important that you do check if you have developed GD because the baby can struggle post delivery if the glucose is not under control. I feel like I already written this before :S but maybe worth repeating? if they suspect GD, don't wait, act on it, tailor food asap because it will be helping you both.

@OrionNebula good luck next week but I am also still keeping fingers crossed for you that the baby turns on its own.

Flying12 · 12/09/2023 17:41

Has anyone here had an elective c section before and have any words of advise/wisdom? What was recovery like etc?
Currently 37+3 and baby still breech at my appointment today so looking very much like a c section. First baby so was hopeful for a birth centre as been low risk the whole way through.

@OrionNebula good luck hope it goes well

ttcttc · 12/09/2023 17:51

@peonygirl I think it's common after reading up on it. Midwife didn't seem concerned which is reassuring

Chanteuse · 12/09/2023 17:55

@katherine123x baby also measuring above 100th centile here too, having another growth scan at 38 weeks.

OP posts:
katherine123x · 12/09/2023 17:59

@peonygirl thank you for the advice!! I'm guna make changes from now!!

@Chanteuse ahhh I'm having another next week at 35+5... then will go from there I suppose. Need to have other tests done too.

OrionNebula · 12/09/2023 18:52

By the way for people who are on the fence about the Elvie pumps... a colleague who just had her second messaged me today to say she's finding hers absolutely brilliant, so easy to use & she's getting loads of milk. Baby is having 2-3 bottles of expressed milk a day.

razzler991 · 12/09/2023 19:43

Good luck @OrionNebula! I have my ECV next Friday as my baby is transverse. Let me know how you get on. I'm trying to do some exercises and have acupuncture booked for Thursday. Fingers crossed x

Sagittarius25 · 12/09/2023 19:54

Good luck @OrionNebula !

@katherine123x baby was already measuring above 95th percentile at 32 weeks so another scan next week at 34 weeks - hoping he's settled into his size a bit but half now preparing for a big baby birth to pan out!

Ended up at triage this morning after hardly sleeping due to baby boy having increased movements for hours in the night (of all things), some of which seemed very jerky and erratic. Very unusual for him to be like that overnight so was enough to leave me getting up for the day concerned. Triage lovely once again and baby all fine on monitor and back to normal movements again today.

Honestly never thought I'd worry about too much movement but it was so unlike him and stopped me sleeping - so there we go 😅

OrionNebula · 12/09/2023 20:29

@razzler991 good luck to you too, I will certainly let you know how it goes.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/09/2023 20:32

I thought I was in labour earlier! Suddenly developed period like pain and lower back pain for a couple of hours, thankfully it’s passed now-terrifying!

NSx · 12/09/2023 20:41

When did you start having growth scans ? (For those of you that have)

I haven’t had an NHS scan since 20w, paid for a 4d at 28w.

I’ve not been asked for any scans, what are the reasons you’ve had growth scans? If you don’t mind me asking?

Sagittarius25 · 12/09/2023 20:43

@NSx I was scheduled them at 32, 36 and 40 weeks originally due to my Papp-a hormone being picked up as low from 12 week bloods. Low Papp-a is a risk factor for a smaller baby, hence growth scans. Although he's ironically measuring big at the first growth scan 😂
