@FirstT1meMum I spoke to my midwife today as I have an anterior placenta too and she said it can move upto 3cm a day. Her analogy was imagine you've got a deflated balloon with chewing gum in it, as you blow it up the chewing gum moves, same with the placenta.

I'm not sure if she said if it ever stops.

buckingmad · 02/08/2023 12:05

@FirstT1meMum I’ve had anterior both times. Both times I’ve felt movement early on (16 weeks with first and 14 weeks ish with second). I had to have a scan at 32 weeks to make sure it had moved far enough away from my cervix with my first, will see what they say at my 20 week scan for this one. Hopefully it’s already up and out of the way.

Kalodin · 02/08/2023 12:46

Absolutely shit consultant appointment. Well...positive is that baby looks amazing, cervix is 4.1 so nice and long. Plus I do really like my Consultant and my Midwife, they're great.

But it was shit because I'll need weekly monitoring now, Consultant said she would struggle to support me having a VBA2C (although she said my scar looks great on the scan and she did acknowledge that my first baby was a successful vaginal birth) and she said as much as they'll be doing everything they can to prevent preterm birth it's likely to happen again at around 28wks.

I also told work today, felt forced to because of the weekly appointments and I don't want to not leave them much notice if I do suddenly go into pre term birth again.

FirstT1meMum · 02/08/2023 13:16

@Hummusanddipdip @buckingmad oh thank you! That's so reassuring. Wasn't really sure what it meant at all tbh so glad to know it could move and doesn't seem to be something to worry about!!

Luhou · 02/08/2023 13:24

@Kalodin that sounds tough, but alsp good they're keeping such a close eye on you.

I have had a letter for an appointment with a consultant following my 20 week scan, but no idea why? Any thoughts?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 02/08/2023 13:59

@Luhou have you requested a c-section? I have a consultant appointment after my 20 week scan for this.

Mummyme87 · 02/08/2023 14:01

@Kalodin good news on cervical length. Long may it last. Were your previous CS lower segment and not classical? Occasionally pre term are done classical. Why did they do a CS preterm? The risk between 1 and 2 previous CS is minimal, I would definitely do some research, ask for stats and a second opinion

Kalodin · 02/08/2023 14:12

This is why I'm confused @Mummyme87 (Thank you btw), as I've done all the research and read a lot of peer reviewed articles. The research I've done for my situation, I think I'm a good candidate! I've 1 vaginal birth, and previous 2 CS (both LS) were due to non-repetitive (although technically it did repeat but theyre not typically linked) reasons (infection due to prolonged rupture of membranes). I experienced labour with DS3, got to 8cm before the EMCS.

The consultant explained that she just cannot support someone doing a VBA2C, it's too high of a risk, but as I understand it, the risk is lower for me in my situation. I just can't do a CS again, I can't even explain how the thought makes me feel.

My MW pulled me aside after the Consultant meeting and she did say she was shocked. MW said no one could refuse me a VBAC, they certainly wouldn't turn me away if I turned up in labour.

Mummyme87 · 02/08/2023 15:04

@Kalodin they can’t refuse to ‘allow’ a VBA2C, which they know. As time goes on you may need and want to speak to a different consultant who would support it to make a plan for when the time actually comes, Particularly if you get to term. Preterm is even more of a reason to try. Least your midwife is more supportive

Kalodin · 02/08/2023 15:15

Thank you @Mummyme87 - next week is an appointment to make my pregnancy and birth plan, MW said I can always request not to make a birth plan yet and just focus on the pregnancy plan but I think its better to have that conversation sooner than later? I was thinking of having 2 plans for birth

  1. If all goes well, baby heart rate okay and no infection markers, baby position okay, then I can go for VBA2C
  2. If things aren't great and CS is needed then discuss my options there - I really think I'm going to need a GA. I cannot even think about being awake again for it.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 02/08/2023 13:59

@Luhou have you requested a c-section? I have a consultant appointment after my 20 week scan for this.

No requested c-section. At the moment. I'm still deciding on whether the elective c section route is for me.

Lightningrain · 02/08/2023 16:46

Has anyone done a hypnobirthing course before? I struggle with medical things and am pretty squeamish so I’ve been thinking it might help me be a bit calmer during labour.

Ideally I’d like as natural a birth as possible but I know these things don’t always go to plan. I like the idea of a water birth just for the freedom to move about with ease and for pain relief but again I know it’s not always an option so want to prepare myself for any eventuality if I can.

Kalodin · 02/08/2023 16:52

Yes and I do recommend them @Lightningrain - I also recommend listening to podcasts on birth too. Knowledge is power. Hypnobirthung is great. The first course I done though, the instructor was a bit intense and said things like "anyone can give birth vaginally, those who don't just didn't practice enough" and "failure only comes from being lazy and not proactive".... soooooo hopefully you won't experience that, as obviously that is completely shit. (This was a NHS course too!)

Lightningrain · 02/08/2023 16:58

@Kalodin thank you, that sounds promising. I’ll make sure I find a course/class with good reviews.

I think it appeals to me more than the traditional antenatal classes from what I’ve read. I definitely understand knowledge being power and I’m sure I’d be much calmer if I know exactly what to expect with any interventions etc.

Cc33 · 02/08/2023 17:24

Hi again everyone! I have been quiet since introducing myself on the first thread (how quickly this chat moves!). I have now had my dating scan and have a due date of 27 January, I'm 14 weeks now and finally feeling a bit more human after a pretty rough first trimester. I hope everyone else is feeling much better!

I have a 2 year old, had a textbook pregnancy with him but labour ended in an emergency c section so I'm under the care of the obstetrician this time, I don't really know what to expect! Has anyone had any experience with these appointments? Are they much different to the ones with a midwife?

@FirstT1meMum I also had an anterior placenta with my son and a high BMI, I started feeling movements about 18 weeks and by 24 he was really active. I don't think either of those factors impacted how much I felt him move, or how hard his kicks were especially once he got bigger!

FirstT1meMum · 02/08/2023 21:51

@Cc33 oh amazing! Thank you, it's amazing to hear similar situations! I'm coming up to 18 weeks this weekend so will hopefully feel something soon!! Would just love the reassurance as still not feeling very pregnant!

Vikki7 · 03/08/2023 00:03

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with either the pipetta compact led or wren wearable breast pumps or anything similar and priced more affordable than Elvie or willow wearables?

Mummyme87 · 03/08/2023 06:16

@Cc33 you will likely see an obstetrician twice during pregnancy, once in 2nd trimester to discuss last time and thoughts on this birth, then 3rd trimester appt to make a plan for birth.. either book elective CS or confirm you want a vbac. You will get BP/urine/FHR done but otherwise it’s a conversation. All other care will likely and should be with a midwife

Mummyme87 · 03/08/2023 07:44

I dreamt I had a scan and I was having a boy! I wonder if it’s a premonition or because I’m counting down the days until I have my anomaly scan.

Gremlin84 · 03/08/2023 07:58

The bloating and everything that goes with it is hitting me hard last couple of days 😳 husband is bringing cups of peppermint tea to ease the gasiness! feel like I’m carrying a beach ball around even though I don’t look much bigger, but there’s definite stretching feelings and aches and pains where there previously were none. Oh the glamour!

Cc33 · 03/08/2023 09:04

@Mummyme87 thank you! That sounds straightforward, now I just have to decide what to do this time.

@Vikki7 I exclusively pumped for my first from 2-12 months and my 'main' pump was the Mam one but I got the Pipetta later on and was pleasantly surprised! It was comfortable and I got a fair amount of milk. Just don't make my mistake and bend down to pick up clean washing wearing it - it spills! It was really handy and allowed me to cook and do other bits while still pumping which was great.

lilluce95 · 03/08/2023 09:39

@Mummyme87 I also had a dream that I gave birth to a baby girl 😂 we shall see!! 🩵🩷

Hummusanddipdip · 03/08/2023 10:27

@Mummyme87 I'm looking at this one

https://amzn.eu/d/ey1Frs1

A friend has it and says it's brilliant and easy to clean and the reviews seem quite fair.

Like @lilluce95 I exclusively expressed for ds but I used a manual pump for 6 months and don't intend to do it that way again, 3 years later I still have rsi flare-ups in both thumbs.

Hummusanddipdip · 03/08/2023 10:28

Sorry like @Cc33 mistagged 🤦‍♀️
