A manager (not my direct manager) at work has just messaged me if I can go on a work trip abroad in Feb! I was only going to tell the rest of the team next week, not sure what I should reply 😵‍💫

Mushroo · 25/07/2023 15:50

@RG84 i carried on as normal and said yes to everything.

Then once I broke the news did some individual zoom calls basically apologising 😂 everyone understood and took it really well.

Are you able to reply - I'll have to check my dates and get back to you if that's ok. Then next week say no.

I've been asked to maybe go to Italy on a work trip in jan - I said no outright 😂

Nclktnntt · 25/07/2023 16:18

@TulipVictory oh my life - yes!!! We have 2 flights of stairs in our home and when I get to the top I'm so out of breath. I blaming it on our limiting lung space as everything is moving up in our bodies as baby grows. I believe by now our ribs are wider and the diaphragm has moved up meaning our lungs have less space than they're used too.

A few weeks ago a deep breath in would have me coughing but now I can take a deep breath again so hopefully this is it lol

RG84 · 25/07/2023 16:54

@Nclktnntt @Mushroo Jees things we have to do. I replied back to say I'll need to check my partners work schedule when's he's back to work :/ and then next week I will tell them when I am going to the office.

RG84 · 26/07/2023 11:22

Hope everyone is doing well today. I feel like the 31st July is taking forever!

SMG1992 · 26/07/2023 11:33

@RG84 Same! I wish I could fast forward the next 5 days and have my scan on Monday already!! How are you doing?

I'm 20 weeks today though which feels like a bit of a milestone - definitely looking pregnant too although I think people are still a a bit scared to ask.
I went swimming yesterday for the first time (except on hols) so I feel like that will be in my routine now to make me feel like I'm keeping up fitness levels. It's amazing the difference moving your body can have on your mind.

RG84 · 26/07/2023 11:55

@SMG1992 ah tell me about it. Literally crossing down the days in my diary, it can't come quick enough. We have been thinking of names but my partner says 5 more days and we only need to think of one gender lol...i'm sure I can feel flutters but it might be in my head. Doing okay but don't have an appetite at the moment to eat anything. Have you started thinking of names? Has anyone? I am 20 weeks on the 31st July. Hope you are doing okay.

I do look pregnant but i've always been between a size 12 and 14 since my last pregnancy so I feel like I look the sameish but I will soon find out if my colleagues notice anything. I work from home so I will only see them on the 2nd Aug.

We are also moving house in a few weeks so I will be starting aqua aerobics in the new area as soon we are settled so I am really looking forward to that as it's been a while.

wannabemum38 · 26/07/2023 12:48

@RG84 @SMG1992 hope your scans come around quickly.
Weird to think I now have a 3 month wait until next scan with NHS seems so far away!

I had my scan today and everything the sonographer could see was all good. She couldn't get a good view of the heart or face though so I've to go back in around 10 days to see if baby is in a different position. She was apologetic as the pictures aren't very good and said they'll try to get a good one next time. So happy everything looked ok so far though!

Charlielechat · 26/07/2023 14:09

I definitely have a bit of a bump now but passers by would definitely just think I have a fat tummy!

Has anyone experienced round ligament pain? I get spasms in my side for a few seconds some nights when I roll over in bed, but last night I had it changing position on the sofa. I'm guessing it's round ligament pain anyway as it's around my right hip.

SMG1992 · 26/07/2023 14:19

@RG84 I had a gender scan at 16 weeks so as long as it's still a boy we are set on a name, my mum keeps calling him the same but it's a secret so I'm scared she's going to let it slip!
@NoodleQueen90 Glad your scan went well!!
@Charlielechat I get it when I stand up quickly, I've also had some pain in my ribs which I think might be due to them expanding - our bodies are so clever

FirstMondayInMay · 26/07/2023 14:27

@Charlielechat I’ve been getting a sharp pain on my right side, usually if I stand up too fast or twist a bit funny in bed

I've also been getting pain under my ribs, almost like a stitch type pain which I’m presuming is just everything moving up.

can’t believe we’re all pretty much half way! It’s gone so fast but so slow at the same time!

Charlielechat · 26/07/2023 14:32

@SMG1992 @FirstMondayInMay It's reassuring to know other people feel the same. Advice online seems to suggest changing position more slowly. I feel like such an old lady 😂

Beans1982 · 26/07/2023 15:46

@NoodleQueen90 Glad your scan was positive and hope you get better visibility during the next one.

I've been having some mild pain on my right side just above pelvis - especially when I get out of bed or get up from the sofa, feels like a pulling sensation and can also feel extra weight as I walk upstairs.
Today tohugh I feel like my lower abdomen just above the pubic bone is flatter than it has been recently so no sure if it's because things are starting to shift up higher?...
Anyone using an Excercie/birthing ball? I've bought one to sit on whilst I work from home. My midwife recommended it might be a good option to help with hip/ligament pain if you roll your hips from side to side, around and back and forth whilst sitting on it. Not sure if it's working for my hips yet but I definetly feel it in my thighs.

smldnlove · 26/07/2023 17:38

@Charlielechat Wow yes! I’m feeling a lot of pain especially at night and in the morning when trying to get comfy. Seems like it’s definitely related to sleep position but it’s a horrible sharp pain whenever I move on my right hand side/groin. It stays on/off throughout the day. It’s really hard to know what’s normal and what’s not!

Charlielechat · 26/07/2023 19:12

@smldnlove yeah it's a scary feeling because it's so sharp! I'm trying to take it easier today - did a lot of walking yesterday so could've been that.
@Beans1982 oh I might try an exercise ball. I thought they were just for later in pregnancy! I should really sign up to a yoga class or something but I'm just not very motivated atm!

Vsah22 · 26/07/2023 19:40

We had our midwife appointment this week at just over 18 weeks. All went really well and heartbeat was so lovely to hear. I asked about an elective c section given my mum’s experience with both my brother and I where I nearly died and we both ended in emergency sections after very long labours. I know I’m not my mum but I’d rather not have that trauma so I thought that was the best option for me. Our midwife is lovely but I knew straight away she was going to try to convince me not to which is basically what happened and she started telling us how major the surgery was and the possible complications etc and then ended it with saying it was my choice though. I said I would go away and read up and I’m still feeling the same way. I’m due over Christmas and I’m someone who feels anxious at the best of times so I’d feel more comfortable having the certainty of a date and if baby comes early then whatever is meant to be will be.

Did anyone else have issues raising the prospect of an elective c section?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 26/07/2023 21:53

@Vsah22 My midwife was really supportive. I brought it up in my first appointment and she never tried to talk me out of it. It does just seem your luck although I think things are changing for the better. I did have an emergency section with my last pregnancy so I do feel more confident asking for one than I did first time around.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 26/07/2023 21:56

@RG84 I started a list of names before I was pregnant 😂. I have a lot more girls name than boys though and we’re having a boy. We had decided on a girl and boy name before 12 weeks with our first child but this time even knowing the sex we’re finding it more difficult.

Vsah22 · 26/07/2023 22:42

I’m glad you had a better experience. I found it quite difficult as I’m clearly worrying about that part and then they only said the negatives so it didn’t feel very balanced and I came away quite deflated and second guessing myself when that had been my plan from the beginning.

So many people have them now, either elective or emergency so I was quite taken aback by the negativity.

RG84 · 27/07/2023 09:00

I had planned a water birth, all was paid for (daughter was born abroad) but then weeks before the due date, my gyne said I had high blood pressure and preeclampsia so a water birth was no longer the option. I then had to be induced but there was no activity so she said a c-section was best. I also had a MC prior to this current pregnancy and my anxiety each day is over the roof, naturally thinking is everything okay on a daily basis. For that reason, I don't want to go through this area as I had to give birth in another country abroad during the pandemic with no family, it was just me and my partner. Cut a long story short, I mentioned an c-section on my booking appointment and the midwife didn't say I couldn't, she said it was my choice. I do have a obstetrics appointment on the 30th August so I will be discussing this then as I am also a diabetic and Ceolic so for various reasons, I would like a c-section. If it means changing hospitals then I will do that but I hope it doesn't come to that.

Regarding names, girls names are always easier hey. Boy or Girl, the name should start with an A haha...my daughter's name starts with an A so yep i'm one of those mothers haha. I will know the gender on Monday.

RG84 · 27/07/2023 09:30

@Vsah22 sorry hadn't tagged you.

Kat2022 · 27/07/2023 11:09

@Vsah22 I opted in for C-section with my baby no2 as I had a horrible experience with my baby no1 last year(they also tried to push me for normal birth). They say it’s a major surgery but all my friends could walk and enjoy their lives with babies a week after birth and I couldn’t walk for 3 months as I had 3a degree tear and it’s something they don’t really tell you much about. The vaginal birth can be much more complicated then c section. I’m still seeing physiotherapist and I was close to have pelvic floor collapse. TMI- but people don’t tell you that you’re also likely to have large Hemorrhoids so you can’t even sit and feed the baby as it’s so painful. I wish I knew I could ask for c section with my first baby. Also we had him on Sunday Easter and due to short staff the experience was so traumatic . I’ve raised formal complaint as it was disgusting and with c section you will know a date and time. They make it so nice and relaxed for you like they put your music on etc. I was also 2 weeks overdue and they don’t give you any beds and I was ready to be induced from week 40 but no beds available so you just suffer and wait in pain. I’ve also been told that babies born with c section have perfect heads and our baby had to wear helmet as he was stuck down below for too long when pushing which had impact on his skull and he was a big boy as he was overdue. I didn’t know that the head shape can also be impacted by vaginal birth. this is my own experience but speaking to all my friends it sounds like everyone with c section had much better experience and recovery time. it was nice for me to experience the vaginal birth but at that time if I knew the complications I would ask for c section last year.
