Has anybody got any tips for sickness? I’m 6+3 with my first and I’ve thrown up 5 times today 🤢 thankfully I wasn’t in work but dreading the rest of the week when I am!

GoingToInfinity · 10/07/2023 21:08

@HKS90 sorry to hear you're dealing with sickness. I found last time round that I always felt worse when I got hungry so used to keep Tucs or Ritz crackers in my desk drawer at work to keep something in my stomach. Peppermint tea helped and just keeping a mint in my mouth helped too.
Try and rest and stay hydrated.

HKS90 · 10/07/2023 21:16

Thanks @GoingToInfinity 😊 I’ll definitely try grabbing a packet of Tucs to take to work! Now you say that I haven’t had any snacks today so I might have made it worse for myself getting hungry between meals

Husband finally believes me. 🤣 Boot blue done yesterday morning, pink done tonight

L0uise35 · 10/07/2023 23:21

Hey @Psmama22 I'm in Monaghan

Kay00 · 10/07/2023 23:55

@blodyn91 haha 😆 it's pretty conclusive evidence. Congratulations again!

Kay00 · 10/07/2023 23:55

Anyone else getting sharp twinges down below? I'm 6wk+1 today, I also had a tiny blood clot when wiping earlier.

applefries · 11/07/2023 04:19

hi, i'm due on 10th march 2024. glad this thread exists 😍

Labyrinth86 · 11/07/2023 06:52

I found out over the weekend that I'm pregnant with my second baby. My DD is currently 20 months.

It was a little bit of a shock that I got a positive and I only tested because my period never came. We only tried once this time around and I just guessed when I was ovulating based on symptoms (I was planning to use ovulation tests in June and July and aim for an April or May baby - I bought ovulation tests alongside pregnancy tests because I didn't think I would get a BFP). I'm also 37 so didn't know if it would be easy to fall pregnant. In contrast, for my first pregnancy, I was taking ovulation tests and tried for two months, and I was 34 when I fell pregnant.

Kay00 · 11/07/2023 07:21

:-) @Labyrinth86 two months to fall pregnant on your first was super fast too! Sounds as though you are very fertile. Congratulations!

@applefries welcome and congratulations to you too!

@HKS90 my friend recommends eating little and often - every 60-90 minutes even if you’re not feeling nauseous to stave it off. A handful of salted cashews, a clementine, an apple, a biscuit, some salty corn snacks, a ginger nairns biscuit, she then found she ate less at main meal times but it helped the sickness.

Hopefulhoney6 · 11/07/2023 07:54

@HKS90 oh and my sister swore by a drink with bubbles. She slowly sipped on Sprite Zero all day and she said it helped!!
and those sea sickness bands that you wear on your wrists, but can’t really hide them under a jumper in summer!!!

Steamedhams · 11/07/2023 08:03

@HKS90 I find gingernut biscuits really helpful but I don't get morning sickness really bad. My friend swears by water with lemon pieces in. I think you may have to play about with different things to find what works for you. The common remedy theme seems to be anything with a fresh smell like lemon, peppermint, ginger etc.

Does anyone who’s already had babies know how many weeks you should be to phone docs for getting a midwife? I actually found out i was pregnant the day before going abroad so did ring the doctors for advice and she said the doctors don’t do anything until you’re 8 weeks? So does that mean i call the docs at 8 weeks?

Hopefulhoney6 · 11/07/2023 09:26

@anonymous20231 I think it depends on your area, but usually you register straight away and then you have a booking in appointment 8-10 weeks and a 12 week scan.

However, where I am (London) you don’t register with the GP. You just choose your hospital where you want to give birth and then they have a self referral form on the website. That’s what I have done. So you could look at your local hospital and see if you can self refer. You might have midwife appointments at your doctors but the doctor doesn’t deal with it or organise it, the hospital does everything.

This website is helpful and you can use your postcode to search for registering with midwives: https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/finding-out/your-nhs-pregnancy-journey/

@Hopefulhoney6 this is so helpful thank you!! The doctors weren’t very helpful when i rang a few weeks ago, no surprise there😂. I am 6wk now so will try calling them again tomorrow and go from there. Thank hun x

Ap24 · 11/07/2023 09:49

@LeopardLover thank you. I feel happy now but apprehensive, and a little bit guilty about my initial feelings. I think once we can get the NIPT done I will be reassured.

@blodyn91 thank you. We never thought we would get pregnant. There's issues on both sides and I have PCOS and endo. We are looking at the NIPT test due to me being 37 and our trust not offering it.

Pipperleen · 11/07/2023 10:17

@Kay00 how are you feeling today?
I have woken with dull aches very low down and it’s making me nervous.

LeopardLover · 11/07/2023 10:44

@Ap24 Try not to feel guilty, it was an absolute shock!! I feel the same too about the NIPT. I just don't want to book it in too early as I'm only 5 weeks.

@Pipperleen I have dull aches and leg pains like I normally do pre-AF. I googled it and apparently it's normal to feel heavy, all to do with blood flow and your uterus. I don't remember this from last time!

LeopardLover · 11/07/2023 10:45

blodyn91 · 10/07/2023 22:31

Glad he finally believes you 🤣 undeniable!

katie1509 · 11/07/2023 11:12

Hello all I hope you don't mind me joining. I found out last week I am pregnant with my first! I genuinely didn't believe it was ever going to happen and I didn't do any ovulation tests or anything and didn't overthink about it and bam it worked 😅.

So working out from my LMP I think I am 4+6 so 5 weeks bang on tomorrow!
Due date is I think 13 March!
Tempted to pay and book an early scan as my husband might miss my 12 week scan due to being away with work ☹️.

How is everyone feeling?? Anyone like still not believe it's true because I feel like until I see a scan I will not believe it 😅

L0uise35 · 11/07/2023 11:31

Hey @katie1509 congratulations. I'm due 7th march with my first also. And yes still finding it hard to believe so much that I done a digi yesterday.
How are u feeling. I have mega sore boobs, really bad bloating, tiredness and nausea

Hopefulhoney6 · 11/07/2023 11:34

@Ap24 congratulations!!! Don’t feel guilty…. I think lots of people have mixed feelings and yours was an even bigger surprise! My friend once said to me - it’s helpful you have 9 months of being pregnant because you have 9 months to get used to the idea of it lol.

Kay00 · 11/07/2023 11:55

@Pipperleen I'm ok. I have a bit of a 'heavy' feeling, and the odd twinge. But its apparently normal (if terrifying). No more blood/clots and my boobs are fizzing today! So something is happening...

Hey! Congratulations to you too!🥰
I feel bloated and some mornings I wake up feeling sick! My boobs are like so heavy feeling I dread taking my bra off everyday 😂
