@amynolan hey hey! Ahh I did think that, that's good to hear 😂 we use My Pregnancy Notes here! I think that's similar to Badger x

amynolan · 27/06/2023 07:49

Hi all, I have a scan today with my recurrent miscarriage clinic (I have them every 2 weeks) I'm 10+3 today (Frozen embryo transfer). I've heard people say drinking a sugary drink before a scan helps to see baby love and be measured accurately? Any thoughts on this? I don't want babe to be so active they can't measure but equally would love to see some acrobatics 😂

I've also heard that drinking a sugary drink makes them active but I've not tried it myself! I hope your scan goes ok 🤞🏼 x

ItsAJourney · 26/06/2023 22:31

Wow, what fantastic scans, congratulations everyone!! So funny that there were so many on one day!

@PartRadish, glad your measurements have caught up. How far behind were you before?

Had a scan at 6+6 following a big bleed and I was measuring 5/6 days behind (they took the measurement a few times both abdominal and transvaginal) which doesn't sound that much now but it felt huge at such an early stage, plus it would've meant I'd tested positive at 3/4 dpo so I knew it was impossible.

This was Epas and they just kept saying their measurements were accurate and I must have my dates wrong which was infuriating tbh 😆 At my next scan it was a different place with a midwife sonographer and she said its really, really common for measurements to be inaccurate at 6 weeks because it's like trying to measure a grain of rice from a different room.

buckingmad · 27/06/2023 08:41

@amynolan i think probably better to have a chilled baby for measurements than an overactive one. I had the latter yesterday and I couldn’t do anything to get them to stop doing somersaults. Whereas if you need them to move you can get up and shake your hips etc to encourage them to move.

ItsAJourney · 27/06/2023 09:17

Thanks @PartRadish! It’s so interesting to hear your story and the grain of rice analogy. I too measured 6 days behind on my early scan but know my exact dates as I had IUI treatment. Still got a few weeks until my 12 week scan to hope everything is progressing as it should but think I might book a private NIPT test so I get to have an earlier look.

cossie13 · 27/06/2023 09:37

Morning all,

Apologies for being a bit AWOL the last few days. Life has been too much. Between the anxiety over the cramping despite there being no bleeding, I've then had my ex being an absolute arse over selling our old house (it's been going on for 3 years now 🙄) and when we each have the kids. And then, my parents get back from holiday, get me and my sister round for a belated father's day and drop the bombshell on us that dad has prostate cancer.

Stop the world, I want to get off!

Niam4 · 27/06/2023 11:18

Hi sorry I know people have asked before but I was just wondering what antihistamines are safe to take during pregnancy ?

WitcheryDivine · 27/06/2023 11:32

@cossie13 so sorry to hear that news about your dad, I really hope he has a good outlook as most men with prostate cancer do nowadays x

cossie13 · 27/06/2023 11:40

@WitcheryDivine thank you. He's got a biospy this week so will find out soon what the treatment will be. He found out early because he's been having quarterly blood tests after his twin brother found out he also had prostate cancer but he'd had it for 6 years without knowing and is terminal. So in a sad way, dad's twin saved his life. You know when you just think your parents are invincible and nothing will ever happen to them. It was a massive shock that's all.

I've booked in for another scan tomorrow due to the cramping, I'm constantly worrying and can't get out of my head that we'll rock up at the 12 week scan and there'll be no heartbeat. If anything has gone wrong, I'd rather know now

Gremlin84 · 27/06/2023 12:00

@Niam4 loratadine, cetirizine (both non-drowsy) or chlorphenamine (potential drowsiness) are the only ones deemed OK (all the others have insufficient data to know whether safe). Loratadine is the preferred.

Scan was this morning and went really well - due date adjusted slightly to 12 Jan. Little bean was wriggling and stretching away.

Kalodin · 27/06/2023 12:11

Ah wonderful the scan went well @Gremlin84 mlin84

So many scans are happening! Feels like you're all so far ahead of me 😂 I still have another 4 weeks until mine

What utter shit news @cossie13 sie13 - C word is scary. Glad they caught it early (although devastating about your Dad's twin being why). My sister's Dad had an early diagnosis of prostate cancer a few years back and all has been okay for him, really hope will be the same for your Dad.

It's hard not to worry though isn't it when they measure behind @PartRadish ! Even if they're a grain of rice 😂 with my previous 3, they all measured behind in early scans (like this one too I keep reminding myself), then catch up on the 12 week scan, then suddenly they just bloody grow like crazy! Previous 3 have all had an exponential growth chart 😂

TunnocksTCake · 27/06/2023 12:14

So sorry youve had such horrible news @cossie13 but glad they caught it early. Hope the biopsy goes ok.

So many great scans. Feeling very nervous for mine on Saturday.

Can I ask - what are you all snacking on? I am needing to eat all the time and constantly hungry but trying to be 'good' with my choices when all I want is salt and vinegar crisps!!

cossie13 · 27/06/2023 12:16

Thanks @Kalodin, I'm sure he'll be fine. The consultant is positive that it's contained to his prostate at the moment, and that will be confirmed by his biopsy on Friday. It's just tough at the moment and I can't wait for life to feel somewhat 'normal'!

Is it normal to worry about something going wrong as much as I am? Like it's all I can think about. Any twinge or ache or anything and I'm convinced something's gone wrong

Kalodin · 27/06/2023 12:17

I think its normal given that you're also going through a lot of other shit too @cossie13 - if you can get that early scan, I really think you should

Kalodin · 27/06/2023 12:18

@TunnocksTCake Grapes are what I'm snacking on here

cossie13 · 27/06/2023 12:18

@Kalodin thank you, I do feel like I'm being ridiculous. But then I struggle to convince myself that all is ok and I can deal with everything else and let baby do its thing!

WitcheryDivine · 27/06/2023 12:27

I don't know what's normal but I've also got cancer stuff going on in my family (not such a close relative so I won't be as affected as you) and I think the two are playing off each other in my mind and making me extremely anxious. If I'm not worrying about one I'm worrying about the other, and that combination is then distracting me from life, work, relationships etc. So I think it causes a bit of a stress...not really a spiral for me but more like a wave machine.

So sorry you're going through this x

WitcheryDivine · 27/06/2023 12:28

Sorry I meant to say - making me extremely anxious about everything to do with the pregnancy.

WitcheryDivine · 27/06/2023 12:39

Is anyone else being really moody/tetchy? I feel constantly like that and dunno if it's the pregnancy/the stress (see above) or the progesterone I'm on. Hate being a moody bastard though.

CarnelianArtist · 27/06/2023 12:40

@cossie13 so sorry your dad has cancer. It's normal to worry as it's a difficult thing for anyone, pregnant or not. I hope the treatment goes well 🙏

@TunnocksTCake oat crackers and raspberries. Though for a strange reason I've gone off snacks so I either eat a whole extra meal or end up hungry. In my last pregnancy I was obsessed with bread.

CarnelianArtist · 27/06/2023 12:42

@WitcheryDivine no, it's just that everyone else has become very annoying all at once. 🤣 seriously though I'm so grumpy and if someone isn't a master diplomat like my manager (who has teenage kids) it's not going well.

lilluce95 · 27/06/2023 12:46

@cossie13 so sorry to hear that awful news, it's great that they've caught it early though so hopefully there'll be lots of options for treatment! Just take each day as it comes and take it easy ❤️ my dad also had cancer last year and it's absolutely heartbreaking - sending my love!

@TunnocksTCake I used to love all kinds of fruit but now the thought of it makes me feel nauseous 😂 I've been snacking quite badly - bread, chips, crisps 🫣

CarnelianArtist · 27/06/2023 12:47

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum. Thanks those who set it up and contribute. I'm actually feeling really down, fed up and anxious so it's nice to join a group.

When do people plan on telling others about their pregnancy?

I told my family at 9 weeks as my husband was too excited and also needed to explain why I looked so sick. Then I also told my boss as it seemed like the only way to explain why I've been so under the weather and grumpy.

Thinking when to tell my four year old and friends.

suz2285 · 27/06/2023 12:51

@cossie13 I'd say that's totally normal, I'm worrying about every little twinge too 😂 symptoms, lack of them, too much nausea, not enough etc etc!

@TunnocksTCake I love fruit right now! But also snack bars, crisps, biscuits! Not much healthy snack wise, sometimes nuts! Just had a banana, and fruit is my go to, not normally into much fruit but I'm totally off a lot of veg/salad so I'm enjoying the fruit, I think everything has to be super cold that's the key! Not a fan of much warm things 😂 and it's nothing to do with the heat! Haven't had a cup of tea in months now!!

flowerpot258 · 27/06/2023 12:54

@CarnelianArtist - it's really up to you when you tell people. I think typically most people will wait until after the 12 week scan to announce it but it's entirely up to
You. I'm 10 weeks and I've practically told all my friends and family. Will only announce it to others after my scan
