Preeclampsia at 19 weeks

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 05:15

In hospital at the moment with early onset preeclampsia. I may have to terminate unless they get my blood pressure down. Has anyone else had preeclampsia this early? I had my son at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia but can't believe it's come this early. They say it doesn't usually happen before 20 weeks.

I was also told that I probably had underlying kidney disease that had been unmasked by pregnancy. (I had protein in my urine for 2 years afterwards)I have annual checks for that and still seem to be ok 🤞. 💐

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/06/2023 14:43

How's things today OP?

blahblahblah1654 · 07/06/2023 16:22

Thanks for asking @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor. Im back home for now! I was allowed to leave today. My blood pressure is back down to a normal level. I'm heavily medicated with blood pressure tablets. I'm back at the maternity unit tomorrow and Friday for blood tests and blood pressure checks. Currently using a home monitor every 4 hours. I had my 20 week scan yesterday and baby is measuring around 18 weeks plus reduced blood flow to the placenta. This suggests iugr which isn't ideal. I have another rescan with a specialist on Tuesday. Trying not to worry too much but I feel things could still go either way and the moment. Hopefully won't be admitted again either! I think they will decide on my plan on Friday at the maternity assessment unit.

How are you doing OP? Good luck today.

blahblahblah1654 · 09/06/2023 06:00

Unfortunately I lost the baby yesterday. My bp shot to 210/110 weds evening as I think the baby was distressed. The heart stopped beating yesterday morning. Currently in hospital and taken the first tablets to process a late miscarriage. I'm here a while. It's devastating but at the same time I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Is it wrong to say I'm also relieved as the decision was taken out of my hands? We were so close to having to terminate last week due to my health. In a week or so I'll have my life back and be home with my family. My husband has been great and has been able to stay with me. Makes me realise how amazing family and friends can be in a time of crisis and everyone has pulled through to help us and our son. I'm so sick of being stabbed and poked all day every day. Im horrifically bruised with a lot worse to come but I'm trying to stay strong.

skkyelark · 09/06/2023 09:10

So very sorry for your loss, and of course it's understandable that in a way you're relieved to have it taken out of your hands. Wishing you strength and grace to get through the coming days and weeks 💐

AutumnVibes · 09/06/2023 09:13

I’m so sad to read this, sorry, sending you good thoughts. My sister suffered with preeclampsia in her first pregnancy and it was a horrible time. I’m glad you have such a lot of support around you.

PinkPlantCase · 09/06/2023 09:17

I’m sorry for your loss OP 🙏

I can also understand the element of relief, you’ve really been through it over the last week or so. It must have been so scary with so many different things to worry about, with yourself, the baby and your DC. It’s great that your friends and family have rallied round and that your DH could be with you. I hope you’re able to take some time to rest and recover.

blahblahblah1654 · 09/06/2023 10:49

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. I've taken the vaginal tablets which will hopefully move things along. I'm scared of the pain but i am telling myself shes only the size of an 18 week baby and still tiny. I always wanted a little girl! I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in December too so it feels a bit cruel but I could have a d&c last time and can't at this stage. I just have to focus on being well now and getting better. I keep thinking worst case scenarios and the tablets won't work but the doctors seem pretty confident.

I'm very sorry indeed that your baby has died.
That's a tragedy for you and your husband.

I hope it won't take too long. Are you going to ask for an epidural?

Moonchild79 · 09/06/2023 11:17

Love to you and your family x
🤍

AutumnVibes · 09/06/2023 11:21

It’s an absolutely awful thing to happen for you and your little girl, especially off the back of other losses. Don’t downplay how traumatic this experience will be and make sure you get some proper support to process it all. I hope things go as painlessly and quickly as possible for you over the next days.

recyclemeagain · 09/06/2023 11:28

I am so sorry to read that you've lost your baby girl. Remember there is support available for yourself and your husband as you process this over the coming months.

I think it's understandable that you feel a sense of relief alongside the grief and uncertainty. You do not have to make what would've been an impossible choice and there will be relief in that.

Thinking of you and your family at this time and may your daughter rest in eternal peace 💗

Vick99 · 09/06/2023 12:41

I'm so sorry for everything you're going through. You've had such a tough time and we were all hoping for a different outcome.
I second what an earlier poster said about the Facebook group "Preeclampsia, eclampsia and HELLP syndrome survivors global support network". It's a huge source of support and there are many mothers on there who have sadly lost babies to preeclampsia like yourself.

IncessantNameChanger · 09/06/2023 14:41

I'm so sorry for your loss, its just so unfair.

Give yourself time as you will need time to fully process everything. I had reflexology and took paracetamol and went on to have 3 more more kids after preclampsia. But it's not a desision to take lightly. I did know I was risking my life each time. I don't think there's anything wrong in deciding to to say no more kids just want to say its possible and I never had PE again ( I did have high BP enough to hospitalise me multiple times and iugr).

More importantly you need to look after you. I think it's going to take time to get fully better so take that time and let others look after you. Your body, mind and organs have all had a battering. Do rush to come off your BP meds either. You sound very strong.

TheShellBeach · 09/06/2023 15:59

OP you can have an epidural for the pain if you want.
I expect they've told you that already.

cantgetabus · 10/06/2023 09:37

I'm so sorry this has happened. Sending you love and hope you can get back home soon xx

blahblahblah1654 · 11/06/2023 14:52

Thanks all. I finally delivered this morning 48 hours after the first medication. I had to go under a GA earlier to remove the placenta. They recommended that over a spinal as my infection markers were raised. I've bounced back fairly easy from the GA. Onto the next step of recovery now!

Moonchild79 · 11/06/2023 15:13

Thank you for updating us. Thoughts are with you and yours.
Pleased you’ve bounced back so soon after the GA.
Rest well
