Just a curiosity question how many pre-cum babies pregnancies do we have on here? Everyone knows the risk is there but they do say if a man has good control pull out is an effective method of contraception maybe a thread like this can give us some idea how effective it is

It's not a method. It's roulette. Played by those who don't mind getting pregnant.

Soulstirring · 01/06/2023 18:47

Who says?

OrangeFleece · 01/06/2023 18:49

if a man has good control pull out is an effective method of contraception

I don't think I'd say it's effective.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 01/06/2023 18:51

A quick google tells me that done perfectly it is 96% effective. (Ie 4% of couples will get pregnant after a year of using it.) However, in real life, it is only 78% effective.

This compares to condoms (98% effective) and the combined pill (over 99% effective).

Ohmych · 01/06/2023 18:53

We've used that method for the last ten years in between trying different contraception. (My body isn't keen and likes to bleed all the time) The only time I've got pregnant is when we've been trying to. It's worked for us so far

2bazookas · 01/06/2023 19:12

they do say if a man has good control pull out is an effective method of contraception

The only people who tell that big fat lie, are men who won't wear a condom, and know fuck all about biology.

Bluebellgal8 · 01/06/2023 19:39

My partner and I did the pull out method for over 3 years. We decided to start trying and on the first go of not pulling out I fell pregnant. So I'd say it was pretty effective in my case lol

TooMuchStuffArghhh · 01/06/2023 19:40

I've got two pull out babies. Very close in age.

PickledScrump · 01/06/2023 19:41

I know quite a few people who have tried it. All now have children who weren’t tried for. It’s definitely not a method I’d use unless you’re happy with a potential pregnancy

ShirleyPhallus · 01/06/2023 19:41

🤣🤣what a thread

pompypomppomp · 01/06/2023 19:42

We do this because I can't find the right contraception for me, and the only time I've got pregnant is when we purposefully havent done it. But it's like survival bias really, you only have to look at the statistics to know.

DidyouNO · 01/06/2023 19:45

I solely used this method for 20 years. Never got pregnant without actually trying. Saying that I didn't mind if I feel pregnant so it wasn't a huge risk.
I'd never recommend it though. It's like the 'I smoke and I'm ok brigade'. Don't risk it if it's important to you. It's NOT reliable.

Bargellobitch · 01/06/2023 19:49

I've been doing it with my partner for about 18 years and have never become pregnant.

USaYwHatNow · 01/06/2023 19:50

@Ohmych same here.

MsCactus · 01/06/2023 20:13

Google says one in five couples who use this method as contraception get pregnant...

I mean, that's pretty high. An average couple in their 30s only has a 1 in 7 chance of getting pregnant each month with unprotected sex

TheSnowyOwl · 01/06/2023 20:16

There are way too many variables. If a couple only have sex in the last couple of weeks of the woman’s cycle where she isn’t at all fertile, then the odds will be very very high that it’s an effective form of contraception but it’s also just as safe at that time of the month to ejactulate inside.

GoalShooter · 01/06/2023 20:17

DH and I used it for years with no unwanted pregnancies.

Lolacat1234 · 01/06/2023 20:19

We lasted 18 months doing that (not even doing it on my green days as per natural cycles app) and still ended up pregnant. Definitely not something you should be doing if a child is the worst thing in the world to happen to you. We knew TTC was on the cards shortly so it wasn't a big deal it came 6 months or so early. They say pre cum has sperm in it sometimes especially if the man has recently ejaculated!

Ttcmumma · 01/06/2023 20:19

Used it for 5 years and didn't get caught out until he didn't pull out 🤷🏼‍♀️ concieved 3 times with no fertility issues when not pulling out. Pretty effective in my case.

MaudGonneOutForChips · 01/06/2023 20:22

Don’t be silly, OP. A random poll on an internet site is pretty much the equivalent of ‘My Nan smoked sixty and day and lived to be ninety.’

user1472831787898776 · 01/06/2023 20:24

Also interested to know this. We used this method for five years successfully. I then used hormonal contraception for four years before having my daughter (planned).

I don't want to go back on hormonal contraceptives so we now use condoms. The thought of having another baby fills me with dread so I'm not brave enough to use withdrawal again despite its previous five year success.

Ged94 · 01/06/2023 20:27

Did it with my partner for 6 years without getting pregnant (on the understanding if i got pregnant I'd keep it). We had regular sex

Got pregnant the first month we were actively trying to.

Same for us! It’s the only ‘contraceptive’ we’ve ever used. Works fine when we want and when we want to ttc have got pregnant easily

K37529 · 01/06/2023 20:31

I was on the pill but came off because of side effects so we did pull out method instead. Was only off the pill one month and got pregnant. If you don't want to get pregnant don't use this method it doesn't work

scrivette · 01/06/2023 20:34

Worked for 4 years for us. Then after DC had a surprise pregnancy 1 1/2 years later using it.
