I’m TTC DC3 but I’m older and far more out of shape than I was with my first two so at slightly higher risk of labour complications. Both births were really quick and I didn’t make it to hospital with either. Anyone else had a fast birth, and were your subsequent births fast or relatively normal?

First birth was less than three hours. Second was much, much faster. I was walking to the bathroom in hospital and her head actually came out. This was right after I was told it would be hours until she was born.

CatsOnTheChair · 01/06/2023 15:28

Only had 2.
DS1 was fairly fast - hospital wanted to send me home, he arrived an hour later.
DS2 was paramedic delivered. I was under strict instructions from the midwife to have a planned homebirth (as opposed to unplanned homebirth) for any subsequent babies.

Temporaryname158 · 01/06/2023 15:36

Both born at home unassisted as nobody got there

#1 3 hours from first anything until born
#2 25 minutes

i wouldn’t dare try for a third! I wouldn’t be able to leave the house in the later stages of pregnancy

wetpebbles · 01/06/2023 15:40

All fast

greenmarsupial · 01/06/2023 15:40

Yes, definitely each one fastest. Third was the best though as I was very sure about when to go to the hospital and how far along I was so didn't stand for being fobbed off!

Spannersintheworks · 01/06/2023 15:41

I was induced and he was out under 4 hours, I'm nervous for this next one now!

sandberry · 01/06/2023 15:49

1st one - 15 mins active labour, 40 mins from first contraction
2nd- 4 hours from first contraction
3rd - 3 hours from first contraction

1 and 3 were inductions. 2 I went into labour while waiting for a bed for induction.

Ringmaster27 · 01/06/2023 15:52

DC1 was 3hrs from first contraction (hospital induction)
DC2 was 10 hrs (planned homebirth)
DC3 was 1hr 1mins (planned home birth)

LG93 · 01/06/2023 15:53

Yes, baby 1 was 3 hours, baby 2 was 9 minutes (20 if you include delivery of placenta)

shelbabab · 01/06/2023 16:10

Not me haha I don't have that luck or maybe it's not so lucky 🤷🏻‍♀️ both quick labours in my family they said were the most painful.

Sil was 5hrs for first baby after being induced. Second one 2-3 hrs. Hospital hadn't even put her in a private room they assessed her when she came in said it'd be a while, then left in ward with 3 other folk in beds! Her dh had been sent home too. She said she had to scream for someone to come as she had this massive urge to push. They quickly wheeled her out and by time they got her to a delivery room baby was nearly out completely.

My sister had an unattended birth. She was in hospital it was her 3rd. She thought she might have it in the car but managed to get to hospital. They said she wasn't yet fully dilated and then left. Her dh had to go run to find a midwife as she delivered the baby 20mins later with no one there.

Heatherbell1978 · 01/06/2023 16:12

Yes! First was quick in the context of first births (I now know that I dialate very quickly!) Second I would have had in the car if we lived 10 mins further from the hospital.

3luckystars · 01/06/2023 16:14

No the labours were all different, but the minute the waters broke, the time definitely sped up, it’s like my body kicked in one e the waters broke and got faster each time.

LadyDanburysHat · 01/06/2023 16:17

Yes mine were.

DC1 4 hours
DC2 90 mins
DC3 45 mins

I know someone who had births that got faster until no. 4, who took a long time.

notquitesoyoung · 01/06/2023 16:27

1st (4 wks prem) - 12 hours from first signs of labour to delivery including a drip as everything massively slowed down towards the end.

2nd (due date) 4 hours from waters breaking at home, being sent home from hospital & then being blue lighted back to hospital. Health visitors response a few days later "I told you you should have had a home birth"

Redpanda21 · 01/06/2023 16:29

No1 3 hours active labour -
No2 3 hours start to finish - arrived at hospital was 6cm and born 47 mins after arriving.
No3 3 hours start to finish - arrived at 4-5cm and hour later he was born

SirenSays · 01/06/2023 16:32

All of my sisters births were fast and got faster each time. We joke she's a human slip n slide.

My 2nd was the fastest I didn't have contractions the first sign I was in labour was some bleeding. Off to the hospital I went 15 minutes away. Got there I was examined and told I was 5cm dilated in triage I told them I needed to push so was rushed to the delivery room and Ds was being born 15 minutes later. 45minutes in total.
1st: 58 minutes
3rd: 1 hour
4th: 1 hour
I don't seem to get contractions my first sign of labour seems to be bleeding.

8 births?!😱
Did you have any kind of complications with any of them, especially as you got older?

LadyBrook · 01/06/2023 17:22

Thanks all, sounds like I’m likely to have another quick birth! Can the hospital do anything to preempt things if you’re known to labour quickly? Luckily live a 6 minute drive from the hospital now but I didn’t get any warning with my previous labours - both times I just felt a sudden wave of pain that made me double over and then started pushing, I couldn’t stand up to get to the car. DC1 took 42 minutes and DC2 took 25 minutes, both born just before the paramedics arrived. DC1 was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck which was a really scary thought!

With my 3rd baby I went from first contraction to ready to push in a flash and only just made it to the labour ward in time. I thought my 4th might be even quicker and arranged a home birth. The baby was bigger and occipitoposterior and I had 5-6 hours in labour.

JustCheckMyHead · 01/06/2023 17:39

Four hours induced (2 weeks early)
Four hours natural (due date)
45m induced (2 weeks late)

BenjiBungee · 01/06/2023 19:11

Yes by about 5 hours and the first one wasn't a long labour either.

BenjiBungee · 01/06/2023 19:13

And subsequently similar length (very short). Minor complications during labour first time, no complications subsequently. Also progressed much faster than they thought (both times), I did try to tell them... sigh and my Mum was very similar.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/06/2023 19:14

#1 - 2 hrs
#2 - 15 mins
Didn't have any more.
