I’m TTC DC3 but I’m older and far more out of shape than I was with my first two so at slightly higher risk of labour complications. Both births were really quick and I didn’t make it to hospital with either. Anyone else had a fast birth, and were your subsequent births fast or relatively normal?

8 births?!😱
Did you have any kind of complications with any of them, especially as you got older?

No none! I had water births at home with the second through to the 6th, the last two I had in hospital as the risk of of pph is higher but it was fine.

Had my first at 21 and I’m due again November, I’ll be 37!

Thanks all, sounds like I’m likely to have another quick birth! Can the hospital do anything to preempt things if you’re known to labour quickly? Luckily live a 6 minute drive from the hospital now but I didn’t get any warning with my previous labours - both times I just felt a sudden wave of pain that made me double over and then started pushing, I couldn’t stand up to get to the car. DC1 took 42 minutes and DC2 took 25 minutes, both born just before the paramedics arrived. DC1 was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck which was a really scary thought!

I’d be booking in for a home birth in your shoes! Is it a possibility?

Very much so, dread to think what would happen if I had DC4 - like PP, I would have to stay in from 37/40 I think!

Has anyone suggested booking a home birth?

First was slow but three subsequent babies just got faster each time. Babies 3 & 4 didn’t even make it to labour suite, 3 was born in triage and 4 in antenatal ward with a lady in the next bed, the midwives were flapping about due to the speed and shock of it all. they had said I could go home earlier too, would’ve got my home birth if I had 😳

From waters breaking to birth, mine got quicker.
DS1 - 10hrs 6 mins

DD - just over 1hr 30mins
DS2 - just under 1hr 30mins

Baby 1 : 45 mins
Baby 2 : 3 hours
Baby 3 : 5 hours (felt like ages compared to first two, but I put it down to being far more relaxed!)

My midwife told me #3 is often trickier than one, two or four. Not necessarily longer but she used the phrase it's third babies that usually give us the run around. Both mine have been quick and the second was faster. Not believed either time (that baby was coming already).

DibbleDooDah · 01/06/2023 22:57

No 1 - hour and a half from first contraction

No 2 - two and three quarter hours as they were back to back. If they hadn’t been then they would have come extremely quickly

We are 20 mins from the hospital and it was agreed that I should go in once contractions were regular, regardless of amount of space between them. I called them when they were 10 mins apart. By the time I got there they were coming thick and fast and I didn’t think I was going to make it out the car 😂😂

Seriously, I'd make sure your partner knows how to deliver a baby in an emergency.

I mentioned to the midwife in an off hand way that my Nan and Mum hadn't made it to hospital with their second birth. She said in her experience precocious Labour runs in families and said DH needed to know what to do.

Fortunate we had that conversation as he had to deliver DS in the car. I had to beg him to stop as he was just driving faster and faster in the hope we'd make it in time.
