Just started a previous thread where I mentioned we are going to start TTC towards the end of this year if things go to plan.

Really interested to know how old people were when they started trying to conceive? We are 25, 26 in February. Do you think this is young?

I didn’t go to uni. I did a civil engineering apprenticeship 8 years ago and progressed from there, brought our house 2 years ago. I do agree it seems young

I was 36, conceived within six months. 25 is super young where I live, I don't know anyone who had a planned baby before 30.

kalcite · 30/05/2023 21:37

I got pg with DC1 at age 18 but didn't ttc as he was unplanned. First time I ttc was age 36. 26 is not too young, though it depends on the financial situation I guess.

I get the TW, some people do seem to get upset if they hear about someone having dc young. Possibly they've had issues ttc and wish they'd started when they were younger and more fertile.

VintedoreBay · 30/05/2023 21:38

34, DH was 36.

I was 36 and then 38 when Baby1 and then Baby2 arrived.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 30/05/2023 21:40

34

I think mid twenties is good if you can do it and are settled. Not everyone is ready then.

claire841 · 30/05/2023 22:00

25 (a few months before 26) and had DS a month before my 27th birthday.

Yes, this? Complete with hazard emojis!

Because they think they’re very young (and are pribebly overexcited) I suspect, and assume they’ll be immediately successful because of it, and think Mumsnet is mainly occupied with 40-somethings struggling with fertility.

Started TTC when turned 30 - baby born when still 30

Simd1 · 30/05/2023 22:05

I started TTC at 29. Baby was conceived first cycle and born when I was still 29 (took a bit longer to conceive the next one at 32).

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 30/05/2023 22:06

26, had DD1 when I was 27 (DH is a couple of months younger than me). I got pregnant the first month but had a miscarriage, then got pregnant again straight away.
Had DD2 at 30 after about 6 months of trying.

We're 31 now and are still the only people amongst our friends from uni who have children.

26 and then 28. Think 26 is not unusual.

It is a bit unusual nowadays - the average age of a first time mum is slightly over 29

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/05/2023 22:10

Started 32/33 got preg finally at 43 and gave birth at almost 44

Took 10yrs ttc and 5 private ivf

Mother Nature did not play ball the fucking bitch !!!!

But I have mini blondes who is just 6 and my word

So op , you are young. You have time if there are any issues which hopefully won't be

SunnySun1 · 30/05/2023 22:14

Pregnant at 26 (DP same age). Will give birth soon and I recently turned 27. I went to university and have a professional career. Many women on Mumsnet think 20s is too young to be a parent and believe that educated women will wait until they’re in their mid 30s or older to have children. I find it awful that we are infantilised.

lostmillennial · 30/05/2023 22:15

Started TTC at 25, had DC1 at 26 followed by DC2 at 28. I wanted to be finished having children before I turned 30. Husband is the same age as me.

darjeelingrose · 30/05/2023 22:15

I think you've derailed your own thread from the title.

wiffin · 30/05/2023 22:16

Lovely age to have a baby. And you'll still be young when they leave home! I often wish I had had mine younger. Then I would have them for longer. Instead I will be virtuslly retired when they leave home.

Odiebay · 30/05/2023 22:16

Will be 33 and 39 when we start trying. We both have great careers and are doing up our dream house right now whilst still being able to have several holidays per year. That needs to be done before the kids come along!

Sallyann98 · 30/05/2023 22:17

Yes, my mistake.

Agree on the infantilisation 100%!

On here, under 25 and you’ll never have fun or enjoyment, under 30 is too young and you should be travelling or saving more, 31-33 is perfect, 34-37 you’re getting older and 38+ you’re ancient!

In reality I wish it was seen as normal for anyone who is ready (financially, emotionally, relationship wise) who wants a baby to start their family. Sure it might be more common around 30, but some 19 year olds might be ready just as some others might not be ready till 39. There’s no right or wrong

Bookendortwo · 30/05/2023 22:24

Started aged 20 conceived aged 25 following fertility treatment.

I don’t mean to offend anyone, I only put trigger warning as I was told before on another thread I should’ve put a TW as some of the answers on the thread could’ve offended some people

You're damned if you do, damned if you don't on MN aren't you!

Absolutely no offence to the TW, how ridiculous 🙈

I had my first suprise baby at 26. I tried for my second at 28 🙂

MrsMiddleMother · 30/05/2023 22:28

19 nearly 20 ttc dc1 took 5 months

23 ttc dc2 got pregnant first try but miscarried then took 6 months

Hobnob22 · 30/05/2023 22:29

I was 27, my husband was 31. I had DC1when I was 30.
I dont think it's a case of 'is this young', it's about your circumstances and lifestyle. If you're in a committed relationship, have a good job, money to spare, good living situation and plenty of life experience under your belt then why not. Personally, I wish I had kids earlier!

MuchTooTired · 30/05/2023 22:31

Started trying at 26, finally gave birth to my DTs at 31 after one round of ivf.

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2023 22:31

I was 28 when we started trying. It took about 11 months. I was 29 when I had him.
