Thought I'd start a new one as the old one is full!

I'm 37w exactly and definitely starting to feel more Braxton Hicks (they woke me up last night) but they don't seem to be getting more intense/frequent. Also a bit of lower back ache and general bump tenderness, plus I think I've lost a small bit of my mucus plug. Think this is probably normal at this stage and just my body gearing up for labour but am quite nervous as have a c section at 38+3 and hoping to last till then! Second pregnancy but last baby arrived at 36w so feels like uncharted territory!

How is everyone else feeling?

Hi @Ally1992 , we are also having lots of short naps these days, with the occasional longer one if we're lucky. In particular he's fighting his morning naps, which were the most consistent. Think you are right, it's just a phase. He's better at getting himself fully to sleep at night now though, so that's a plus.

rllrsk8 · 06/09/2023 12:53

Anyone else's little one suffering after 12 week vaccinations? He had his last Thursday and screamed a lot a few hours after, but after some calpol was fine. But is still having watery, frequent and green poops a week later. He'd had 4 before 9am this morning. He's fine in himself, maybe a little clingy, but that could also be the heat. Health visitor said it's from the rotavirus vaccine and should be better after a week, but doesn't seem to be improving.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 07/09/2023 06:36

@rllrsk8 I think dd was ok after hers. She was a bit runny for a week but it coincided with us changing her formula so put it down to that. We definitely gave calpol as I think she had tummy ache during afternoon and it helped.

23 weeks now. This heat is horrible. Poor dd barely sleeping during night it’s so warm. Ends up being awake at 5am wanting to play and shouting for attention. She doesn’t really nap much during the day either. She loves sleep if she’s in her sleeping bag but because of the heat I can’t use it and it messes her up as she’s not comfortable. Hopefully it cools down soon.

Hoppyhops · 07/09/2023 14:27

@Ally1992 I have no advice but I’m with you in solidarity. My DS is exactly the same with daytime naps. I’m lucky if he goes down for 45 minutes - and this is only if he naps on me- but he needs it as he is so cranky if he doesn’t get sleep! By pure fluke, he slept for 2 hours during one of his naps on Tuesday, in his Moses basket, and I thought we’d turned a corner but nope! Back to short naps got the rest of the week! It’s really frustrating. He is sleeping well at night though, so at least there is that, but the days are long, trying to occupy a cranky, tired baby.

rllrsk8 · 07/09/2023 21:12

Thanks @BellaTheDarkOverlord, it's so miserable for them, just want to make it better! My little one is 14 weeks now and has had 9 dirty nappies today, 10 if you count the one he did in the bath, but think is just the combination of the vaccine and the heat as he's fine otherwise. Just going to keep an eye on it and make sure he doesn't get dehydrated and see if things go back to normal when the temperature drops.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 07/09/2023 21:45

Did our first swim session today. DD did really well. She was very tired after and with the heat today as well, this has made her a bit grumpy this evening.

@DrinkingAllTheGin must've been very tiring 🥱

We have One long morning nap/late wake up, a longish mid afternoon and then some shorter 20 minute naps throughout the day. Last night was the first time DD slept through for a solid six hours! Very pleased! Hoping for the same tonight 🤞 I've stopped breastfeeding and DD is completely on formula now which I am thinking satiates her hunger a little more overnight.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 09/09/2023 22:57

@toomanysausages it was, but good fun.

DDs naps are led by her but generally it's one long one about an hour after waking at 6am, a short one around lunchtime and longer mid afternoon.
She will then sleep 7 till 10pm, and from around 11pm until 6am.
However if we are out and about she sleeps 90%of the car journey and similar of any buggy trip.
She is fully formula fed and I try to ensure the 10pm feed is a big one.

toomanysausages · 09/09/2023 23:00

Yes! The car is prime nap time! Doesn't matter how long the journey is 🤣

AngelBlue12 · 10/09/2023 09:06

We do naps in the sling in the morning normally so she’ll wake about 7 nap in the sling from about 9 until 1 or 2 depending on what we are doing. Then cat naps afternoon and evening, goes to bed with us at about 10pm and will wake once about 4 or 5 then back to sleep til 7ish. Ebf

in my experience sleep is just baby dependent not how they fed, I’ve had a couple of truly awful sleepers - think up every 45 mins until 10 months and then another who slept 7pm to 8am. All ebf.

hang in there everyone we can cope with everything they throw at us 😬😅

Dewintergarden · 18/09/2023 21:24

Hello just wondering what everyone is doing to stimulate your 3/4month olds. I've bought a playmat, swinger, bouncer, rattles, teething sticks, books, balls, bumbo seat activity table (which dd can't play for long in due to being so little still). I feel like apart from walks in the pram (I can't do slings) there isn't much more I can think of doing. I'm looking to join a gym soon so we can go swimming, but I haven't got round to it yet. Dd seems to be a bit bored at times. Thanks

DrinkingAllTheGin · 18/09/2023 22:57

We've just finished a baby massage class, we do baby swim class once a week, and baby sensory class once a week.
Other than that, play at home, walks in buggy, and read books. We also meet up with friends once a week.

rllrsk8 · 19/09/2023 02:43

We also do baby swim once a week and Sing &Sign. I've also been taking him to lots of free taster sessions - mat pay isn't great so making the pennies stretch!!

I find my little one is most entertained when we're out and about - meeting friends, short bursts of shopping, going to look at some horses nearby etc. I also try to involve him as much as I can in what I'm doing around the house - he loves looking in the fridge 😆 and playing with kitchen utensils!

Other than that we do lots of singing, books, playing on his playmat with various toys (he loves a little Baby Einstein piano he can kick at the moment) and just doing rolling, talking to him etc. We sometimes sit outside and look at and touch different leaves and flowers. He likes it when I blow some bubbles for him to watch falling. Mainly he just likes trying to chew anything and everything.

Dewintergarden · 20/09/2023 18:23

Thank you both! Great ideas!

toomanysausages · 30/09/2023 16:42

How're we all getting on? Has anybody gone through sleep regression yet? Are your babies learning to "self soothe?" I don't mean controlled crying but settling without being rocked to sleep more so. Any cool milestones? Tiny little teeth buds maybe? We've had some real belly laughs that are absolutely hilarious to see! I think about this thread and how we were all expecting and now the babies are actually here! Would love to hear how your babies are getting on 😌

DrinkingAllTheGin · 30/09/2023 20:42

DD often drifts off by herself. I put her down at regular intervals and if I've timed it right she will be asleep in minutes. If I've left it too long, she will fight it.
About every 1hr 30 to 1hr 45 she needs a sleep.

Hlc86 · 01/10/2023 09:57

Heyyyyy everyone, matilda is still a tiny pip but now weighs 12lb 5oz, I put her down at night at 7ish and she sleeps through till 2am will have a quick bottle then goes back off till 7am, we are both getting over covid so feeling abit crappy but getting there, she has her first tooth coming through at the bottom now too, it's all going so quickly. How's everyone else getting on?

Aww those gorgeous big blue eyes. So cute!

Matthew just turned 3 months last week. He sleeps through mostly from 8ish till 5ish then has a bottle and back to sleep until 8ish. It's nice having our evenings back. He mostly goes off easily, I give him a cuddle until he's a bit sleepy, then put him down and keep my hand on him and sometimes stroke his head until he's asleep. Occasionally he'll fall asleep if I leave him to it. Not looking forward to the 4 month sleep regression but hoping it won't be too bad!

Just last week he's decided he doesn't mind tummy time, he used to cry straight away and not even try to lift his head, now all of a sudden he's doing it. He's also starting to hold and shake rattles although gets frustrated when he tries and fails and has started to suck his thumb instead of his whole fist. I must admit I really struggled through the new born phase and hated it but he's just starting to get a bit fun now!

Very cute pics! @DrinkingAllTheGin gosh I wish DD would sleep that often! How is your DD going through the night? Or does she still wake up?

Sorry to hear you've both been poorly @Hlc86 I'm dreading the pie of us getting sick (I know it's inevitable). DD constantly sucks her thumb which I assumed was teething but no signs yet! Matilda is the same weight as C! Lots of chubby rolls over here 🤣 Some babies are just smaller, aren't they?

@Kelvie103 now I look back DD is far more interesting than when she was newborn. I find looking after her more rewarding as she is more interactive/smiles. I gave DD a rattle today and she dropped it and proceeded to gnaw on her fist 🤣

Dewintergarden · 02/10/2023 04:47

Dd has also starting teething but has CMPA and most granules/powders have lactose. I had 1 week of her sleeping through the night and now she is crying out in pain in her sleep :( Dd is also on the slightly smaller side. I've given her teething sticks which have been easier to hold but she prefers her hand or my finger or boob to gnaw on instead. She's not a massive fan of tummy time but is getting used to it as well. I showed her how to roll today by gently moving her and she seemed really surprised which was funny to see. I think I've planted the seed now as when I popped her back on her tummy she started lifting her head up more and holding herself better.

BobbySD345 · 02/10/2023 08:39

It's so nice that this group is still going ! Lovely to hear all the baby updates.
We think we may have a tooth coming. Red cheeks. Crying and moaning in her sleep and constantly putting her hands (or anything!) in her mouth. With DS he never put a thing in his mouth, no hands no toys, nothing. It was great lol. Now this madam is constantly soaked, covered in dribble rash, smelly hands from all the milky saliva. Think we have some fun to come once she can grab and play...!

Sleep wise it's a bit hit and miss. Last night she did 8pm to just now...amazing. The night before she went down at 7pm and then needed a feed at 10pm and then some at 3am for a quick feed. Night before that 7pm to 10pm and then 10pm to 8am.

Is anyone still breast feeding? I'm finding it more difficult now she is bigger and getting distracted. Not sure I'll do it once she has teeth...

tigerlily0 · 02/10/2023 09:21

Nice to see all the updates! My LO still doesn't really like sleeping much lolll, she does couple hour stretches at a time. Probably worse as wer approaching regression?

She's been teething for nearly a month, only puts her hands in her mouth though, nothing else yet. She's rolling now since yday, only showed her once or twice and shes just learnt it. She's always had good neck control since she was born so haven't had to do much tummy time, and when we have done it she doesn't mind it. Maybe this is why she doesn't sleep, too many skills being learnt lol.

Still ebf, took an expressed bottle at the beginning and now she's like nope don't want a bottle. I don't mind as I dont have anything solo planned

Ally1992 · 02/10/2023 10:08

Hello! My boy is 5 months this weekend already, I can’t believe it! He does need help to sleep in the day with rocking or a bit of milk, doesn’t like being put down in his crib so we do a lot of contact naps still but will go down at night very easily.

Sleep at night is also all over the place but he never wakes up more than twice, he’s slept 8 hours straight about 5 times now.

He used to hate tummy time but is getting better with the help of the very annoying dancing crab toy 🙈 he’s rolled over once but I think it was an accident 😅 the HV said that because I had him at 37 weeks it’s normal to be a week or 2 behind with milestones.

Hoppyhops · 02/10/2023 10:44

My DS is 13 weeks. He’s very long - above the 99th percentile and weighs 17lbs 5- already filling age 3-6 month clothes 🙈

He is rubbish at daytime naps- still only doing 30 minutes at a time unless I hold him but his night sleep is pretty consistent. He goes down at 7, I feed him at 10 and he sleeps anytime between 3-5, then back down until 7. He’s started to go for 6 hours on a few nights so I’m hoping that pattern continues! He’s starving when he wakes at night though so I can’t see him dropping his night feed anytime soon.

He is beginning to tolerate tummy time a bit more and has rolled himself over a couple of times although I think that’s more luck than judgement. He is obsessed with ramming his left hand in his mouth- hasn’t discovered the right yet and has no idea that he has feet yet either 🤣

DrinkingAllTheGin · 02/10/2023 10:49

@toomanysausages she goes through the night consistently and has done from about 8 weeks.
She has days that she fights naps, like today! It's going to be a looong one!
