Thought I'd start a new one as the old one is full!

I'm 37w exactly and definitely starting to feel more Braxton Hicks (they woke me up last night) but they don't seem to be getting more intense/frequent. Also a bit of lower back ache and general bump tenderness, plus I think I've lost a small bit of my mucus plug. Think this is probably normal at this stage and just my body gearing up for labour but am quite nervous as have a c section at 38+3 and hoping to last till then! Second pregnancy but last baby arrived at 36w so feels like uncharted territory!

How is everyone else feeling?

So I asked about the delays and the midwife said our hospital is going really well ATM, no delays anticipated.
@Hoppyhops thank you! Sweep wasn't too bad as cervix already dilating, I was prepared for the worst 😁😂
@Rlt8990 so induction can be any day now once a slot becomes available?

Feeling some cramping but not getting hopes up as I know lots of people do after sweeps but then they just sort of go away.

ScrantonDunderMifflin · 27/06/2023 13:25

*doing really well

Hoppyhops · 27/06/2023 16:09

@ScrantonDunderMifflin Glad the sweep went ok and there aren’t any delays at the moment. Hope the cramping is the start of
something for you!

@Rlt8990 Ohh 41+2 - you must be so fed up. Same question as Scranton- will they just call you in when a slot becomes available
now?

Rlt8990 · 27/06/2023 22:56

They booked me for today as our trust is anywhere between 41 and 42 weeks now, recentish change I think ! They called lunch time to come in (i was told anyitme between 8 and 8!) so on the ward now, hopefully something will happen soon! Had the balloon fitted just need to try get a little sleep if that's at all possible

B1993 · 29/06/2023 06:31

Hi ladies, I was on the early threads with you all some time ago but life got busy and I haven't used MN in a few months.

I thought I'd check back in with you all and see how every one is? (I've not manged to look back at any past posts yet).

A little update from me: I had a few complications towards the end of my pregnancy and was induced at exactly 38 weeks so baby is actually a May baby! He arrived safely on 20th May so is approaching 6 weeks old soon - time flies!!

I was terrified about inducation but it went very well considering - the worst part was them attempting to break my waters to get things started. It took 3 attempts (by 3 different people) and lots of gas and air! I really hoped for a natural as possible birth and my midwife was so supportive and lovely of this. Luckily I didn't need any further medical intervention (hormone drip etc.) and the labour progressed naturally on its own taking about 7hrs from waters being broken to baby boy arriving.

I am loving the newborn stage and, compared to my first, baby is so chilled and content that it's been a fairly quick adjustment for us all. My eldest son ADORES his younger brother and has from the very second he met him 🥰🥰

B1993 · 29/06/2023 06:32

Sorry for the essay, if anyone manages to read to the end, well done and thank you! 😅

Hlc86 · 29/06/2023 09:42

Now she sleeps 😂 think she's definitely going through a growth spurt day/days as she's been a little piggy.

Question for fellow c section ladies, I have one stubborn stitch that doesn't seem to be dissolving and is sort of poking out, should I book a doctors app before the 6 week check up or just wait it out? Don't know if it's normal or not?

Baby Matthew arrived on Monday night 26th June. 9lb 7oz the little chunk! Went in for an induction on the 24th but it didn't work. The first drugs did nothing, the 2nd I overreacted to and baby was in distress but still no progress and ended up having a c section which was a disappointment but at that weight maybe for the best! Still in hospital at the moment as he's not doing enough nappies but apart from that all is well and really hoping we can go home soon.

@B1993 awww congratulations, that's lovely that your LO is so adored by his big brother! Our of interest what size clothes are you dressing baby in now he's 6 weeks?

@Hlc86 Dd will also sleep beautifully in the daytime... her wakeful periods are getting longer though! I think extra feeding signals a growth spurt as that's what we were told at our signing off midwife Appt - dd had gained 250grams!!! Shock regarding the stitches I can sort of feel a couple of mine towards one side of my scar but I don't know how far post c section you are (I'm 15 days post) but I don't know what's normal, sorry not much help - I was just told to watch out for signs of infection.

B1993 · 29/06/2023 18:23

@toomanysausages, thank you! 💙

One of the (various) reasons for my induction was baby measuring small. I know this isn't always accurate but in our case it was so might not be best representation of sizes. But, in case it helps, baby was 5lbs 13oz when born so spent the first week or two in tiny baby size. He's around 8lbs 6oz now so fits in lots of newborn (although some sleepsuits seem a bit short in the leg) and up to 1 month.

I think it is entirely dependent on what baby weighs and how long they are as to what size fits. I know some babies who have jumped sizes every 1-2 weeks while others have stayed in newborn for well over a month or two because they were slower to gain weight.

Theres a huge range of normal so just go by what fits baby best and don't worry too much about the size. 😊

Rlt8990 · 30/06/2023 13:41

Baby finally arrived at 41+3! Had the balloon induction but it fell out, they then broke my waters and baby decided to come in a pretty dramatic fashion and arrived 3.5 hours after waters were broken. Official labour time recorded as 1.5 hours. Was not fun and no time to fill up the pool! Trying to rest and recover but not easy with an older child at home

Hope everyone is doing well x i

PurBal · 02/07/2023 07:05

@Rlt8990 congratulations

HasHus86 · 02/07/2023 10:01

@B1993 @Hlc86 @Kelvie103 @Rlt8990 Congratulations on your beautiful babies! ♥️♥️

Givealittlebit · 02/07/2023 18:00

Ahh congrats to all the new babies!

And @Rlt8990 I feel you with the older kids meaning no time to rest 😂 have you gone from 1-2? How are you finding it?

Rlt8990 · 03/07/2023 00:25

Hi @Givealittlebit yes gone from 1-2, some things are easier but finding the guilt hard, arranging things for older one to do, but feeling bad it's not with me! Had forgotten some aspects of newborn life too

BobbySD345 · 03/07/2023 03:35

Just jumping on quickly during a night feed to say a big congrats to all who have announced babies arriving the last few weeks. We are adjusting to life as a 4. Battling with some sleepless nights and her being EBF whilst making sure our 3yo feels included. Lots of treats and activities and whenever anyone is cooing over baby, he gets praise and cuddles and lots of "big brother" comments. We took him to Legoland as his big brother treat last week which was great as baby was no trouble whatsoever so we were able to make the day all about the 3yo. Can't believe our little squishy newborn is 3 weeks old now. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their little ones xx

Mummy2Girls2 · 03/07/2023 17:31

Congratulations to everyone on the birth of your beautiful babies 🥰
Our surprise baby boy arrived on 23rd June at 39+1
I was just getting ready to attend my friend's wedding when my waters broke and 7 hours later he was here! It was all so fast and unexpected as I was adiment I'd go to my due date.
He's fit right into our lives as a family of 5 and his 2 big sisters are obsessed with him!

@Rlt8990 ahh the 1-2 jump is so emotionally draining, alongside the exhaustion! It will be so worth it though and you'll forget the guilt, I promise!

C1umsyGiraffe · 06/07/2023 22:39

How are people getting on with breastfeeding? I'm almost 3 weeks in and it's still so painful 😫 very close to giving up!

B1993 · 07/07/2023 00:15

@C1umsyGiraffe, sorry you're having a tough time with breastfeeding! I'm not expert but EBF my first and am doing the same with this baby - we're almost 7 weeks in.

I remember being in agony with my first in the early days. Lansinoh nipple cream really helped with the pain of cracked nipples! I also ordered nipple shields but never used them though They're supposed to help though, so again, might be worth a try. Have you checked baby's latch is good, as that usually makes a huge difference, too? Don't be afraid to talk to your midwife/ health visitor about the pain as they can usually help with it. I had lots of support for positioning and latching with my first so my advice is don't be afraid to ask if you need help! If you've got any BF support groups near you, those ladies could probably offer some practical advice, too.

just remember that you're not alone and there's lots of people that can help if you ask. And try not to see it as giving up or a failure if breastfeeding doesn't work out for you - it's hard (harder than lots of people initially realise). Ultimately, fed is best, whether that's formula or breast milk.

Sali83 · 07/07/2023 05:06

Struggling 5 weeks in. Check if tongue tie. Check if thrush as that can be incredibly painful when feeding. Are there ant children's centres nearby with breastfeeding groups you could go to for support.

firsttimelondonmummy · 07/07/2023 08:16

Hey all,
Random one but has anyone else got their period already?
Midwife and HV said up to 6 months but I’ve already got it less than 5 weeks postpartum 😫

Funfamilytimes · 07/07/2023 08:47

@C1umsyGiraffe I am too 😬 5 weeks in here and I can say it's definitely getting easier. I breastfed my first for a year so was really surprised I struggled so much. Just stick with it. Make sure it's a deep latch... even if you take them off 20 times a feed to get it right. There's videos on YouTube and definitely go to the BF support groups.
It is really hard work but it's so much easier than bottle feeding once you get the hang of it... hence why I'm preserving!
You've got this! 💪🏼

tigerlily0 · 07/07/2023 10:39

Hi all, hope ure all well and babies are doing good, wer 4 weeks today still not amazing sleep but it's ok, I'm sure she will get there!

Just wondering if anyone is going on holiday soon? My other 2 kids are 7 and 9 and although I used to take them on lots of holiday when they were young I feel like iv forgotten everything! Like prams and breastfeeding and bottles and sun shades and nappies! I'm thinking of booking something in September, baby will be just over 3 months. Anyone have any advice or a checklist ? 😊

Givealittlebit · 07/07/2023 11:08

@C1umsyGiraffe sorry to hear you're struggling! Also everyone who says it doesn't hurt is bullshitting you. It's does hurt at the beginning, it's a skill you and baby are learning but it should get better.
Definitely speak to a midwife or health visitor, or see if there's any support groups locally you can go to.

Hettie struggled at the start as she had a tiny mouth and couldn't get a deep enough latch. I ebf both my others so knew what I was doing, but until she was a few weeks it hurt and I ended up cracked and bleeding on one side. The flipple technique really helps get a deeper latch! Also google thrush symptoms and see if that's ringing a bell, we're dealing with that at the moment, thanks to the cracking 😂

It's hard, and there's no shame in using whatever feeding method works for you and baby. Fed is absolutely best! Breastfeeding support makes such a difference, it's just a shame you often have to seek it out!
